I bring on my buddy, Mike Rouse, a notable figure in Orange County music as well as manager of punk rock legends, X. We discuss tiki bars across the country, PeeWee Herman, and X's new record, Alphabetland.

I love this discussion about music and growing up with it. Americans of certain ages can remember our classmates practicing with their bands in the garage after school and getting together to learn lyrics and dance moves to our record players. It was socially interactive and fun.

Sheesh! The first live show after covid was Pearl Jam in London Hyde park in summer 2022, just amazing band and cool anecdote. Gotta give Dr. Funk a try!

Doing some Tiki Noir detective work, here... I saw a clip of a 1954 RKO crime thriller, set in Post-War Honolulu, called "Hell's Half Acre''. Don the Beachcomber got front end credit as technical advisor, so it's gotta be a Donn's Drink. Wondering what the heavy, "Slim" Novak [Robert Costa] is drinking [3:33], as he smiles and nods to the protagonist Chet Chester [Wendell Corey[ , as Chet's tomato, Sally Lee [Nancy Gates] reads Slim's blackmail note left on their table. [SPOILER] Later Lee whacks Slim, and his lonely drink -- the ice now separating from slushy suspension, floating on top -- seems to haunt the scene never to be finished. It's in a tall straight clear cylinder. Double Collins? The color in monochrome, seems to be a medium density grey -- so reddish or brown? Dr Funk, Dr Fong? Something with a heavy absinthe component would be approriate for a snakey heavy... [Heavy is a misnomer, he's more the Peter Lorre type.] Since he gets whacked in the first reel by the 'good girl'' there' s gotta be bigger bad guys in store, but I only saw a short clip.

Wicked Game is one of my all-time favorite songs. So beautiful and haunting not only because of that guitar, but his voice. Never knew Chris liked Tiki stuff!

Another great episode (wish I could get Doctor Bird rum in Ohio!). Loved the stores from Mike Rouse -- and how cool you're doing so much design work for X?? #legendary!

I sympathize with your dilemma, Spike. I find licorice an utterly vile flavor. I can't bring myself to try this one, no matter how much others may rave about it.

Hate Licorice, Love the Dr. Funk, after a couple I find myself just drinking Absinthe
