Jump SLIGHTLY HIGHER in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES) - A Wild Glitch Appears!

- In Castlevania II: Simon's Quest for the NES, if you use your whip during a forward jump, sometimes Simon will be able to reach platforms that are three blocks higher than his starting position. Usually his jump only gains a height of two (or two and a half) blocks high.
The trick requires a little bit of precision and timing, but it's not all that hard. In fact, this extra height can be used to gain access to the east of Carmilla Cemetery since it allows you to jump over that otherwise impassable ledge just beyond that small stream of water.
Unfortunately, this sequence break doesn't save any time in a speedrun since going to this area is impractical until you have most of the other items in the game (or at least a much stronger whip). But, the "slightly higher" jump can be used at multiple locations throughout a speedrun to take some minor, time-saving shortcuts.

"It's close to being a good game" Lol. I 100% agree!!! Why don't they ever point out the importance of kneeling? I remember spending so much time aimlessly wandering around confused as a kid.
Because the translation for this game is just bad, and that makes certain puzzles nearly impossible to figure out... ☹️

The only thing I remember about it this game is despising it, at one point I thought I’d just let Dracula live for the sake of my sanity
It’s so very nearly a good game, but the translation is the biggest factor for why it doesn’t quite make the cut.
@@KarmaJolt The hidden blocks and lazy bosses are a bit rough, too. If this game was redone with a clean and understood translation (fix up the blocks and bosses as well), it definitely could become the classic it always should have been.
Let's never forget the amazing music this had, though. The game had the birth of Bloody Tears and some other great songs.
You aren't kidding about it almost being a great game! I used to play it for hours, marveling at how amazing the puzzle aspect was, how the action played out, and how horrible the dialog was. Castlevania II is a few tweaks and some writing changes away from being a Top 10 game of all time!
There are a few ROM hacks that completely fix the translation issues and I might stream one.

Say what you want about the game...but it holds insane nostalgia for me. I was like 5 when this came out and I had no idea how to play, but I still did over and over.

I think someone made a version of this game that makes it better and less cryptic.
Yeah there's an awesome ROM hack that I want to show off, and it basically makes the NPC dialogue relevant and easy to interpret. It also adds a map and some other cool stuff.
@@KarmaJolt I remember seeing it in an old-ish AVGN episode (I think it was the megaman spin-offs episode, where at the end he shows off the rom hack, as the first AVGN episode was on simon’s quest)

Did you know if you use the Silver Knife against Dracula, he dies in 4-5 hits? It's the strongest weapon against him. Try it out.
You mean the golden knife? Or actually the silver knife? Plus, Dracula is laughably easy no matter what... It's kinda disappointing!
@@KarmaJolt Unless I'm remembering wrong, the Silver Knife. I remember using it and Dracula being finished super quickly.

Here's a glitch: If you do a whole bunch of squats, plyometrics, and calf exercises, you'll be able to jump slightly higher after a few months or so!

IMO castlevania, contra, and battle toads are the absolute hardest games for the nes, second place is gauntlet silver surfer and ghosts n goblins, third place Mike Tysons punch out, mega man 2 and mega man 3.

It's funny that this comes so soon after a TMNT video (unless I watched an old one and got confused) because there's skips like this that you can do in that game.
