The landing was Sat 14/12/2024, 14:39 Chilean time. Where the shadow of the plane was clearly visible at 0:50, it would have been about 14:30 Chile time, when the sun was almost due north at 358 42' 50''. So Banjo's claim that the orientation was wrong has no substance. [edit] The view of Rossman and the Connell Glacier to the right is also perfectly consistent with the story.
I bet that's Dave McKeegan's camera clicking in the background. "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Antarctica!". That's a welcome not many people will hear from the cockpit.

Beautiful footage CT...thanks for posting. I always try to get a window seat based on which side the sun will illuminate the best...you chose very wisely. Love the 757 shadow.down on the surface. Of Antarctica. Chef's kiss. 👌👌
quite interesting to see the pilot had reverse thrust on up until to the almost stand still. wheel braking is most likely too dangerous on solid ice i assume.
Love it! What a gorgeous place! I can see clearly a long way there too. That makes sense in that it's about as far from heavy traffic and industry as you can get. I didn't realise before that they actually do land on the solid ice of the glacier. I guess the pilots are really careful to have the craft lined up very straight at the runway. Doing 350s all the way down it sure could make a great video, and a cool memory but, would be a bit on the terrifying side while it was happening lol.

Beautiful! You had the best side of the plane, I think. There were two roads leading from the camp ... looked like one to the runway, and the other angled under your landing flight path. Do you know what that one was for?
It's all lies. Every single thing you read or see, unless it's with your own eyes ( while not high,) is lies. Even this post is a lie. Which results in some minor contradictions, but then logic is also a lie.
You'd slide right off the edge off the Erf. With luck you could stream a view of the burned crust underside of the pizza planet before falling out of range of internet service.

...and so he taxis all the way back to the threshold, turns around, and positions for takeoff again. GOD operations are weird when you're literally the only airplane that could possibly want to use this runway today.
Maybe he'd figure it would have terrible retention so it wasn't worth it. Maybe he wouldn't want to have audio because it'd be a pain to curate what conversations to include audio of, in the case that people had embarrassing off-topic conversations on the flight. Maybe that could be fixed with public domain classical music to listen to in the background.
Yeah...I know you are joking, but some are serious, despite handy cams not coming out until 1984. And before that we had the Sony black and white. I gues they can't tell the difference between HD and very low resolution tape.

I must say that is some remarkable high quality video considering the fact it was shot in October of 1970. At least that's what it says on the video. You would think something as important like this video. He would have taken the time to set the correct time on the camera. He had plenty of time to prepare for this.
Give him a break. He is not the "photography" guy on this trip. He was there to perform other tests. If Dave or MC Toon has this on any of their footage, then have at.
So I forgot to set the time on the camera. I didn't realise the date/time was on there, the camera was a last minute addition just two days before the trip. What difference does it make?
I suggest doing the math yourself, to understand the elevation you need to be at to see curvature. 35,000 feet is the normally given altitude. Some commercial aircraft do cruise at that elevation or higher. As this is a short video, including the landing, guessing not at 35,000ft.
@michaelbauers8800 Surly at that altitude you should see every continent if the Earth was flat. We don't. We see EXACTLY what would be seen on a globe. Globe confirmed 💯 🌎

Unbelievable VQ for 1970. Mind blown! (Or maybe they didn't set the clock on the camera :)
Interesting watching the shadow of your plane as it came into land.
You can observe this on any regular flight, given the sun is out and you sit on the side where it can be seen.
