They said his owner passed away. It could well be that he spent some days alone, distressed - perhaps his owner ill or in hospital. His top side looked still OK. I suspect he was confined in a crate or kennel because his owner was unable to care for him - and through stress or unfamiliar food, he had the runs. A dog with a “skirt” can get from beautiful to this in a very short time.
I’ve always had English setters - the sweetest kindest dogs ever - breaks my heart to see this poor boy - bless him ❤️
So glad to see Sam being adopted. He's gorgeous and he wags his tail in counterclockwise motion! Ha, ha! What a great life for Sam, TY.

I also have always had Setters. It is heartbreaking to see Sam like that. I would have taken him in a heartbeat.
