Hi Jema, this is Jane from China, your videos are super helpful. And I'm wondering if the young learner about 2 years old need to follow a textbook?Or else how to schedule their English learning plans so that they can smoothly get into this subject in primary school?
Hi Mariano, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! Best of luck with your first year as head teacher, that's exciting! I hope the channel can continue to help inspire new ideas 😊
Hi, I'm Peter and I'm teaching in Japan. I just became a teacher for two year-olds in April of this year. Your videos are a big help. Thanks. Quick question: what do you do when there are 4-5 students who just walk around the class aimlessly during circle time and other activities? I have 18 children in the class, so it is difficult to keep them all engaged when this happens. If you have time, any tips would be appreciated.
Hi, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I'm so glad the channel has been helpful 😊 Teaching 2-year-olds can be a little challenging because they have such short attention spans. Most of the time, students are coming to school for the first time and they need a few months to get used to school and class. That said, one of the most important parts of planning classes for such a young age is the transitions. You need to prepare a chant, song or action for every part of the class, if you stop for one second to play music or grab a flashcard, students lose focus and thats when they tend to start running around. I have a video on classroom management that might be helpful, yu can watch it here ruclips.net/video/Qf8cbQGknPI/видео.html I hope that helps!
Oh my goodness, this happens to me too. It usually happens when I have new students who don't know what is expected of them. Gemma Perry's videos helped a lot, but my students didn't understand my classroom managment procedures right away. It took about 3 weeks for my students to understand and follow them (my students and I meet once a week). I kept repeating the procedures for them and I kept trying to keep things exciting and interesting. Once the students understood well what was expected of them and how I will behave, then things were 90% okay. I usually still have one or two students who are just grumpy all the time, but I consider that acceptable.
Hi Elena, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I hope your classes are going well in Greece 😊 What age group are you teaching there?
I still wonder! Why do people dislike videos they don’t know how much time and brain is needed to make them? 😡😡😡 I for one cant make a beautiful video like this, all we can is be grateful
Hi Sandra, don't worry! I can't possibly please everyone as everyone is looking for different things and have different ideas of how they would like information presented. I won't be everyone's cup of tea 😉 But, there are positives! like or dislike, RUclips sees it all as engagement and that helps me to reach more teachers. I can also learn what I'm doing well and what I need to improve on from both positive and negative feedback 😊
Hi Ursula, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community. I'm so glad you found me, I hope the channel can inspire some new ideas for your classes!
Hi Marcia, thanks for watching! I'm so glad you also teach this way with your young students, I have always found that my students love it! I hope classes are going well 😊
Hi Gemma, I have a new 2 year old class and it is tough even compared to 3 year olds. Do you know any chants i can use to transition smoothly to keep their attention? I watched your classroom mgt video but could do with some chants or tricks to keep their attention and stop them from crying lol!! If you know any suitable games for 2 year olds that would be awesome too!!! Thank you
Hi Ella, thanks for watching! 2-Year olds are very tough, it's so easy to lose their attention. I would suggest any kind of finger play songs such as, Insy Wincy Spider, finger family, or open them shut them. You can also do some simple actions such as rolling your hands with a chant "roll, roll, roll" and then roll your hands up and down. Also a simple wiggling of the fingers p into the air can do it. Just remember to go very slow and keep eye contact. I hope that helps
