I want this exact bag and colorway so bad. I'm sad I'm late to the party and they stopped making it. Finding one second hand has been impossible. I want weight plate holders, and I want to be able to double duty the bag as an edc/travel. I want one bag to do both and this is literally the only one on the planet that can do it.
Thanks for the great review - what would be a super useful comparison is packing a GR2 34L for one bag travel, and also packing those same items into a Long Range 33L to see how much space is lost.
I have the 39l long range and I gotta say the plate pocket is massive. It takes up a ton of space even with the foam removed. I tried to pack it for a week long trip and ended up using my 32L kit bag instead
@@Ruckingpacking out the plate pockets takes up a ton of space. I did not have an issue removing the foam and flattening down the pocket. The foam on the top of the flap is what reduces the pack ability of the bag. It also does not have a laptop compartment. If someone only has cash for one or the other, I’d get the GR2.
Yeah. I can’t believe they priced it this low. In video I Accidentally said the price difference was $60. It’s actually $160 difference between this and the GR2. I think they could’ve easily priced this $100 more.
Nice video comparison. I’m pretty new to the GORUCK family. I had originally thought the GR2 was my choice. But, I checked specs and saw that the Rucker Long range had space AND dedicated room for securing plates. My current focus is 75% rucking and 25% travel (ie carryon) With that said, the Rucker Long Distance strikes a balance between the two focuses.
Thanks for the great overview. I’m new to all of this but want a piece I can use as an EDC and for occasional rucking. The differences are clear and the GR2 seems to be the better choice but I still don’t understand why, with those differences, it costs THAT much more than the Rucker. Would appreciate your thoughts on that!
Looking for a one-bag. Jack of all trades, master of none, I know. I want to use it for EDC (work, laptop, two pouches, lunch, water bottle and a change of clothes for the gym as well as a towel and toiletries. I would also like to use it for minimal travel. Do you think this could work, or should I go with the GR2 26L? My guess is the 34L is gonna be quite big. I’m 5’8, 178 lbs, pretty broad-shouldered. Thanks a lot.
If you don't plan on doing any rucking, then I'd recommend the GR2. The added plate pocket is just a bit of a non-functional space killer. Between 26 & 34L GR2, I like the 34. While I do personally use a 26L GR2 as a gym bag, I don't think I'd like it as an EDC for purely esthetic reasons. Being a shorter ruck, it has much more of a tortoise shell look. Not a deal breaker, but I'd prefer something with a more narrow profile if it is going to be my EDC. At 5'8" 178, it might sit and look fine on you and you may love it. If that's the case, then it would be a great ruck. The 34L will be a bit long, but it won't be weirdly long. My wife has a 34L and it looks fine on her. If you can float the cost for a little bit, get both and return the one you don't like. Or, try to find someone local you can try them out.
@@Rucking Yes I can see that. But they do have those loops with various accessories that you can use. I’m thinking about getting the 33l long range for one bag carry on travel on planes as well as to do rucking with the metal plates.
I'm really struggling, my GR2 26L just came and it seems super great, then my wife balked at how small it was but I wanted it to be a hybrid EDC and travel bag, and fitness. But, then I look at this and now I'm thinking of exchanging it. I DO plan to ruck and exercise, the fact that it has all the handles, and sternum strap, which I plan to add to the GR2 26L. I can get this with a 45lbs plate with a waist belt for almost the same cost as the GR2 26L - USA. Do you think the quality is the same? From all the videos I've seen I just need to decide if moving the laptop to the plate pocket vs the back really matters. I'm thinking the value of the space and the plate since I do plan to ruck is worth it. This is way longer comment than I expected. Do you have any responses? or Advice? This will be my first ruck for for while.
I think they’re different bags. I feel like this would be a big EDC. But it would be good for travel. I’m always a little hesitant to recommend a bag for edc and rucking. Truth is your ruck will start to get funky, which doesn’t mesh well for edc. If you can deal with that and don’t mind a big edc, this can work, for sure.
@@Rucking Thanks for the insight. Hopfully it won't have to be EDC + Rucking + Travel for long and I can get purpose built bags for each use case. I pulled the trigger and returned the GR2 26L and got this with a ruck plate. I think I'm still going to want to grab the GR2 26L eventually to be my EDC into NYC and for short business travel. Maybe a GR1 21L is in my future.
@@damonluvisiWhat did you end up doing after all? Now i'm curious to know if you ever purchased the GR2 26L and if the Rucker LR ended up serving you well like how you anticipated?
@@LuisAReyes-ir9ym At this point I use the GR2 26L exclusively for work edc and travel, both work and personal. I can fit about 2-3 nights of business travel in it. I initially got the 33L LR to cover both Rucking and Business travel use case but, I found anytime I had to go on a plane or using the plate pocket for my laptop it was a pain to get out cause I typically over pack or stuff my bag.
