She questions why the drug lord stats have a high ratio of men compared to women. She wants to be the next girl boss drug lord which is a superficial and dehumanizing thing to be for women as she will ultimately be the victim in all this in the same way Kat's and Jules's bodies are exploited and their sexual desires crippled by the false promise of female liberation.
that’s a great explanation but i think it’s giving season 2 too much credit. everything that happened happened because sam ran out of ideas and gave up on writing, not because rue’s motivations actually make sense. my theory is rue has no internal / external motivations other than keeping the story going & nothing means anything.
The lock is not physical. It's the addiction. The physical lock prevents the trafficked from accessing the drugs, what keeps the girls in the house is their dependence and no other place to access unlimited drugs, which means these girls are going through absolute and repeated hell in order to pay her back.

As someone who adores Season 1, I do still think Season 2 does some things right and brings positive new elements to the table (which rarely go discussed about online, besides superficially praising Season 2’s visuals). However, while discussing one of the most interesting plot points in Season 2 (the human trafficking thing), you seem to undermine the bigger problem which taints it: how the Second Season drops any plot threads from Season 1 which logically ought to have been continued and expanded upon, in favor of pursuing a less logical and poorly executed plot direction and introducing plot points which ended up being dropped by the end of the season before they even had the chance of being developed properly (including the human trafficking thing). Again, there are things to praised about Season 2, but it’s hard to truly appreciate them without recognizing what the season doesn’t do good. Which is a lot.
