The recycling was 12 miles from hotel and in traffic it can takes some time and burning fossil fuel while driving there…..well done California for reducing plastic pollution and increasing tail pipes pollution!

I remember in the 90s, ppl used to be able to take aluminum cans and glass bottles back to the grocery store and recycle it there to get their CRV-tax back... Why did the legislature let that go away? To stop the poor from going from trash-can to trash-can to find recycle-able bottles/cans? (I remember my neighbor, a retired guy driving a cadaillac, rummaging for recycleable stuff to supplement his retirement income) I guess the state doesn't really care about the environment after all.

The CRV applies for everyone and is there to encourage people to recycle ; I am 100% for recycling. I was more concerned in terms of pollution quantity it takes to claim your CRV deposit and not so much of the amount. The CRV is more of a deposit rather than a tax. A least that’s how I see it.

What a bunch of B.S. I am old enough to rememeber whem the rain forest was dying because of the use of papper bags. At one time the most recycled item were plastic bags. I would much rather the Oil co. make money than the goverment. Young people I talk to are all worried about housing afordabilty, not plassic bags. The average home price in Encinitas is 1.8 mil. that means you would have to make about 300K plus down payment to afford the average home in Encinitas. I sold my business in 3 years ago the people who purchased it are still going though the permit process 3 years later. That's why the rent is so darn high. All these political yahoos should be booted out of office. We deserve the representation we vote for. With all do respect this lady (Ms. Blakespear) doesn't have a clue.

Interesting to note, the state has other recycling items such as carpeting as well as other products but I only see the CRV fees on food and beverage containers. The plastic bag fee is 10 cents for a bag that might cost 0.0001 cents a bag and the stores as well as the state share the 10 cents. Is the state funded by the CRV and bag fees when they are recycling carpet and other products? Doesn't see fair if that is the case. I also believe the CRV and other "fees" should be put on the manufacturers of products packaging etc. vs. the end user/customer as the cost would be more efficient at the manufacture level. The majority of the public do not recycle due to the cost of claiming their money back and the returns are not penny for penny, its less. Force manufacturers to use packaging that isn't negative and be done with the matter unless the real plan is simply to take the publics money as a tax and play with it any old way vs. be efficient.

I refuse to pay for these thicker bags. If I dont bring my fabric bag, I just put it back in my cart and put it in my car. Then unpack my car. It's not like you really need the bags.

It is certainly great that someone is trying to limit the huge amount of plastic generated by local retail, but in addition to this, it would be great if California banned the use of copper for sewer pipes. In general, they would limit the use of copper because the pollution of the environment is much higher for the creation of one ton of copper than for one ton of plastic. The second question is, why are metal-plastic windows banned in the USA? This type of windows has a very low thermal conductivity coefficient compared to wood and aluminum. When using metal-plastic windows, your air conditioner in the summer and heating system in the winter will work at least 30% less. You save a lot of electricity and thereby improve the environment.
