Hi, I simply love message your sending out with this one. It' s all about respect and anfurtionently thats very often forgotten in the chase of those likes and subscribers. I'm a fellow photographer from a small island in the baltic sea so i hope you're okay with my bad spelling.
Thanks for watching and for your kind words! I agree that the more respect we give to the animals we photograph, the better the opportunities will be in the future for the animals and for all who enjoy watching and photographing them.
Thanks Bruce! Last summer, I just knew I had to do a loon float but also to Vlog it this time. It was kind of a one-take wonder and cobbled together without a whole lot of thought to it...but a culmination of many previous floats and many lessons learned. Happy New Year! Cheers!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching! I really enjoy the Guide Series Elite 10.4 kayak, but I think it is discontinued. I recommend any kayak with a "dihedral hull" for stability. I also have been enjoying an Old Town Guide 119. It just keeps impressing!
This is a dream of mine to photograph Loons. My daughter just moved to Minnesota, so hopefully this Colorado boy will achieve that dream soon. I’m really enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing!!
Awesome! For sure, finding the small, nonmotorized lakes is a good way to go. The Superior National Forest and Chippewa National Forest are a couple of places where a person has lots of choices and can access smaller waters by paddle. The Mercer-Boulder Junction area of Wisconsin also has similar opportunities! Its getting to be that time of year! Sorry about the delayed response, but I wish you well!
Hi Brian, Great Video and Great Pictures! I love to take wildlife portraits myself and from a kayak is my favorite way to do so! Do you shoot video from your 400mm lens while out on the water? And do you have any tips for keeping your camera ready and accessible while in a kayak? Thanks so much and I'm trying something similiar on my channel as well!
Amazing shots brotha 🤙🏽 I’ve been using my paddle board for my water photography lol it’s not ideal but it’s getting the job done .. I’m definitely looking into a kayak !! Can’t wait to get a kayak!
Awesome! I have always wondered about paddle boards. To me it seems like having a higher profile above the water might scare some of the wildlife. I might be completely wrong on that too. I bet the kayak will get you closer to your subjects. I have since purchased an Old Town Guide 119 solo canoe, and it is really getting the job done! Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel. Hope you still maintain this. I'm not going to ask you where this lake is. But I go to a small lake in Oneida County, much like this one. Not paddle only, unfortunately. But the loons come out when the motor boats take a rest at night. Do you have any recommendations on where to look for info on wildlife behavior? I'd like to know how to read them like you do, learn their behaviors, etc. You know what they say, to become a better photographer, be a better naturalist. Thanks!
Hi! I still do maintain the channel, though it really depends on the month due to time, content, etc.. The lake I filmed this on is one of the non-motorized lakes on State lands. Regarding loon behavior, I guess I have picked it up from a lot of places. I wrote an article on loon behavior that can be found here... (though I am not implying it is in any way the best information out there)... cabinlife.com/articles/article/common-loon-artiste-of-the-water , but there are others out there. Birder's World ran a great article about a decade ago, and I have come across interesting behavior descriptions in peer-reviewed articles. I admire and agree with your statement completely! Hours of floating peacefully with loons will translate into your being the photographer and naturalist you are seeking to become! Keep at it! Enjoy!
P.S. By the way...back in the 1980s, Don and Lillian Stokes produced an interesting and fascinating book series that was a field guide to Animal Behavior. Not sure where they can be found, but I would guess a search on them would produce some used copies. Also, check out ebird.org and browse on the "Science" tab! Amazing things are happening with eBird! Cheers!
@@stcroixoutdoors Wow, great! Thanks so much Brian. I'll check out those links. I live in Florida now but am planning on a trip to northern WI this summer, God willing of course. Hoping to capture some of those beautiful loons. Take care!
Loved this! Thanks for sharing and being SO mindful of their habitat and 'place' in the world!
I don't know what I love more, paddling a quiet lake or seeing and hearing lolons. Thanks for sharing your wonderful video.
Thanks for watching!
Infinitely beautiful, infinitely exciting!! A true artist of nature. Congratulations and thanks.
Thanks so much! Thanks for watching!

Excellent shots. Kayak is on my list of handy tools. Great work.

JUST BEAUTIFUL, BRIAN.
Thank you! It was a beautiful day on that lake, and the loons were very generous.
Nice work! I am looking to the kayak as a way to get different perspectives than from shore...I like your very simple, yet effective setup!!!
Thanks! The kayak is really nice in that it keeps the perspective low to the water and at eye level too!
