➤ ABOUT US: Hi! We’re Nick & Raychel, and we want to help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas, or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Nothing is off limits when adventure is the ultimate goal. After three years of living full time van life throught Canada, Mexico and the USA, we're now car camping our way through New Zealand in a Land Rover Discovery 1.
Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On this channel, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. We hope you join us on our journey to see the world, save money, live minimally, and most importantly, have fun.
So if you're looking for a channel about van life, alternative living, and budget travel, you're in the right place.
Great watch as always 👊🏿🙏🏿
❤️❤️❤️
Good video! As a kiwi that goes to Qtown many times a year this is a very realistic breakdown of the high costs. It is cheaper throughout the rest of nz but not by much. It all depends how much you want to splash out on drinks, food, accomodation, attractions and all the fun missions. My advice, budget higher than expected. There are many missions you can do on the cheap but fuel costs are hard to avoid.
Totally true
I pay $35 a month for 80GB, plus it has a data bank, internet back home in NZ is obscenely expensive.
Omg don’t even get me started on what it’s like in Canada. We were paying $300 per month and we didn’t even have unlimited 😭
Wow the food was good price when I went there at that place it was 45 from burger and salmon saled
Doesn't seem too bad compared to Vancouver, especially the rent. It's amazing how you get used to crazy prices. I moved to Vancouver two years ago, and now it is the baseline for me lol.
It doesn't seem so bad because... It's 82 Canadian cents to every NZ dollar. 59 USA cents to the NZ dollar.
@@olly-kaiyeah I converted them when comparing. I pay 2000 cad for a tiny studio in Vancouver that is not even downtown and just had a meal for 50$. Stuff is expensive here. Gas is 2.1$ already
I find prices to be very comparable between Vancouver and Queenstown! But remember we pay $1600 per month for a room, not our own studio. When we moved in there was 6 people living in our house!
@@nickandraychel yeah I got that. Definitely not cheap but not as crazy as I imagined. I will need a bigger apartment soon here in Vancouver because of family reasons and 2br anywhere is at least 3500$ these days. It’s depressing
So true
I went there for my bd we went on a road trip there it was 8 hours from rollesten to queens town it’s has so many flies and it was so annoying and so many spider I hated it
Queenstown is the best place to live for Aussies because its very multi-national and you wont face the discrimination and profiling that you get in other cities like Auckland
that fuel price is standard price in europe during the last 2-3 years...
I'm a Kiwi and yes unfortunately petrol is crazy expensive here. Alot is because of the amount important tax and road maintenance taxs. Normally it's best to fuel up on a Wednesday and stack the points where you can. Also if you have flybuys and shop at new world you can also convert your flybuys points into fuel savings at z and Caltex stations e.g. I converted 44 points and got 35 cents a litre off plus the normal 10 cents a litre off on a Wednesday
35 cents off is huuuuge!!
@@nickandraychel yeah it took a few months to save up the flybuys points to do it. But they add up as your regular grocery shop if you shop at new world. The other way is to only put on $40 at a time and stack the points so when you put in a full tank and if you do it on a Wednesday it'll add up with the stacked points. Personally I just go with the flybuys points as I find it easier to only fuel up once a fortnight
Beer is expensive in Australia partly because excise tax increases twice each year!!
Asia is a favorite place for full-time travelers. Thailand. Malaysia. Singapore. Philippines. Indonesia. China. Japan. South Korea and Taiwan
Yep done that :)
I am interested to know the CAD conversion on the beer and food, off to Google I go! 🤓
As a kiwi guys are cool to watch :) Yes NZ isnt the cheapest often for reasons of distance and population size, but you can feel good that you dont have to add a tip, our meat and eggs are farmed in a way better way and the people who work producing, packing selling food etc are all paid at least a fairly decent minimum wage... just saying. If people out there are always looking at the cheap is better model there's a costs to the environment and workers :)
Totally!!
Do you guys have any job or career here?
I travelled to Queenstown for years in my previous job as a truck driver and would just stay one night. My Dad was born there. I miss it. Living and working in Chch now.
That grocery bill seems excessive for just the 2 of you. The price difference cant be that much for Queenstown compared to the rest of the country. I live in chch and for a family of 3, we dont spend that much. But then again, we dont buy beer/wine that often either, and maybe Vegan food is more expensive? Im sure you could cut that down if you shop around and look for the specials.
Also, it is a criminal offence if you go to Queenstown and dont go to Fergburgers at least once 😋
The vegan food is definitely cheaper than meat! We eat mostly canned chickpeas ($2) or black beans / firm tofu ($5) and the rest of our grocery bill is just vegetables. But to be fair, we both eat A LOT (nick will sometimes eat 3 fully loaded sandwiches in one sitting) and cooking is a huuuge passion of mine so we don’t eat plainly! Ferg is pretty good!
Beer and wine is the killer my friend. Practically double the bill when alc is included
I know this is a random question have you been to Vancouver island in bc before ? I was wondering what is it like compare to Vancouver ? People said to me Vancouver island looks like New Zealand
You should consider Thailand, beautiful and cheap.
Yes we used to live in Cambodia! We went to Thailand many times :)
@@nickandraychel awesome, I lived there for a year and a half and loved it.
Ok a quick question how come you guys wear your beanieslike that I thought those from North America wore their beanies just on the very tip of there head and not pulled down or is that just an American thing??
Haha I don’t know it’s just a style
Come down to Invercargill lol
$2000 for food! thats insane
Man where are you guys getting your WOF I have never paid anymore than $65
The vtnz
@@nickandraychel. Go to a small local workshop for your WOF. VTNZ is a ripoff.
Sounds like you would be far better off moving to Perth in West Aussie. Higher paying jobs, amazing climate, cheaper fuel (around AUD$1.80 in Tuesdays), best beaches in the world, 13,000kms of glorious coastline, mild winters. rent would be about the same for a shared house and we don't have any checkups for older cars (only once if it needs to be registered for local licence plates). Visited all of NZ as toursist hiring a self drive campervan and enjoyed it, but would not want to live there as too cold for our liking
First like haha
Hiii ❤️
