You should check out their solo work, They're absolutely fantastic. Also there was a show called Be A Better Mirror, where they were taken on a camp to do some activities to reconnect with each other. It's very heartwarming ❤❤

They show HKers how they should stick with their dreams and how to handle failure. I agree with you that their songs are not attractive, but their stories behind make them so important to HKers
Became a fan of Error at first then got familiar with Mirror. Love Jer’s singing and voice. I’m from Australia so unsure of the “idol” culture in HK but I assume it’s nowhere near as toxic as the other Asian countries. I think they share who they’re dating etc and given they’re a part of ViuTV, the whole idea is to be real and transparent.
Actually Anson Lo was found he once dated a boy briefly, but no fans turned around despite the HK society is still quite conservative towards gay couples. PS my favorite is Jer Lau, he’s the best in singing among them and his songs got really deep meaning
Definitely agree there's certain degree of toxicity in these pop idol culture. I also see some fans digging into every single bit and corners of the idol's life and that sounds quite scary to me. I totally appreciate mirror but also hoping for more groups and artists to be as popular as they are to keep healthy competition and more balanced environment.
In regards to pop stars, I see the same thing in K-Pop too. Which is why I actually don't like the word "idol" because they legit treat them like an idol. I also don't like the way fans treat the artist as if they own them. They're people and they have feelings and lives too.
For hker, mirror is not just a boy group or idiots. Mirror represents hope and new era. It's like the story of david killed Golyat. Mirror was artists of ViuTv, which is newly founded company with limited resources. Mirror shows Hker that dream could be come true no matter how small we are. As you know the situation of hk, Mirror's song, drama and performance are some kind of healing for us. That's why hker are obsessed. It's kinda like phenomenology of religion but what obsession isn't?
