I hate that this haircut - which is a classic A-line Bob first popularized by the Flappers in the Jazz Age - has somehow become synonymous with the hated "Karen." Very unfortunate.
Exactly! the whole “Karen” thing came from Kate Gosselin when she had that ugly reverse mullet which wasn’t even an A line bob. So we should actually be saying “she’s such a Kate” not “Karen”😅.
This is one of my absolute favorite haircuts, in Spain we call it "V cut". I've had it many times, way more exaggerated than yours, with chin-long front pieces and a really short back part (in the 90s many girls used to even shave the back of their head with this cut). I just love it, it really suits me, and no Karen is going to ruin it.
I was a stylist back then. I gave many young, and middle-aged, women this cut. And, yes, even some with a quite exaggerated angle - some shaved and some with about a cm of hair in back.
I had a classmate with it in the 90's, and it looked amazing on her, my guess is her mother was a stylist, the hair cut requires maintenance to continue to look good. I didn't really like her and I didn't want to copy her. I also thought it would look better if I was thinner since I carried weight in my face. I think now that I lost weight it would be cute on me, but my sister got it a few times and it didn't look bad on her, but seeing it grow out I know I don't want the upkeep that the hair style requires.
**As a cosmetologist opinion** The A-line bob when layed sleek and extra smooth= super chic fabulous and The more you begin to tease and add texture is when is begins it’s metamorphosis into a Karen hairstyle *hence on style* Legend has it, the higher you tease and add volume and the more texture added /shorter and spiker it becomes, the higher level of Karen difficulty level you are dealing with 😮💨
Fellow cosmetologist here! A good haircut/stylist and styling makes all the difference! There's a reason why this cut got so popular- the notorious Karen's style just isn't the same as a chic ALine
Unpopular opinion: the Karen cut is just the French bob of its time. Of course it’s dated now, but that’s just what haircuts do. I’m enjoying a shaggy just above the shoulder cut right now and I love it but I know I won’t love it in 5 years 😂
i hate the shaggy look even though it looks really good on me. i can't do ponytails and cute looks. it's best for people that like curling their hair in the morning, which i don't have time to do.
@@Mykasan I finally gave into it because I never put my hair up and it works with my natural waves. I’m sure I’ll tire of it soon but it’s fun for now. I think hair is fun to change which is probably why I like this channel.
I definitely had this cut in 2005, and at the time, I got tons of compliments on it. Popular styles come and go. It’s only cringe-inducing to us now because it’s 20 years past it’s hey-day, this time round. It’s also down to the person, as Stella shows in this video; if you’re styling is well thought out, pulled together and you look happy, almost any style can look timeless.
I remember a time around 2008 when 'the Karen Cut' was called "the Victoria Beckham bob" and I had one too! You have such beautiful features that I'm not at all surprised by how cute it looks on you!
I love it. I think it's more 90s on trend than dated Karen. Depending on your clothes and make up, it could be very Linda Evangalista, Teri Hatcher in Superman or britpop girl. Louise from Sleeper. Justine from Elastica. Loads of the 90s indie girls had this haircut (including me! )
As a hairstylist this is just a run of the mill standard diagonal forward bob with stacked layers and a bit of fringe. My understanding of “the Karen” (that’s my moms name, sweetest lady ever, hate the term karen) otherwise known as “speak to the manager” is like super short in the back and really long front …aka Kate Gossling 2005 ish. They are different haircuts. The bob is less severe more connected, softer. The karen is disconnected, lacks cohesiveness and flow, and is left quite heavy in the front.
I agree. The "Karen" has chin length or longer bangs in the front and is tapered very high at the back, with lots of volume in the crown. This is beautiful on her, but definitely not a "Karen " cut imo.
My last boss's name was Karen. What a sweet heart! She is an amazing professional and a loving proud mom. It's the only Karen I've met and I still don't like when a name gets labelled like that.
This is basically my go-to haircut since hair school in-between pixies and longer styles... it's simple, playful, and had never looked like anything other than a bob with layers.
I agree with you on all points. My sis had this cut back in the day and if done right its beautiful. She had it colored a bright cherry cola and it rocked. Granted you need to have it cut by someone that knows what they are doing. Not every stylist can cut it right.
For me the Karen haircut is the back being stuck out straight with gel or hair spray and it sticking straight out the back. It coming down into a taper isn't it. And that look was just popular during that time so tons of women had it and it sadly ended up becoming a stereotype.
My husband calls it “the Sonic the Hedgehog” cut. It’s still quite popular where I live in a certain age bracket. I’ve had graduated bobs for year and years, starting in the 90s. My hair is long now, mostly due to laziness, but I love me a graduated bob. I never did ruffle it up in back though. That’s not a Bob. That’s a Sonic lol
Yea this cut just wasn't all the way there. But I get it. You can't do much if you were to yake the back that short. This was close but imma go w/click bait ftw
I wore the bob cut thanks to Victoria Beckham, it's probably one of the cuts that I liked the most on myself before I found out I have wavy hair and that layers it's what really suits me
I feel like the tapering needed to start closer to the crown and the front should be longer to make it a true "speak to your manager" cut. This is just an adorable layered bob.
I had this haircut, I got so many compliments. I don’t think this is a Karen haircut cause the photo you showed is definitely different to the cut u ended up with.
He styled it the way you asked right? Considering he wasn't exactly thrilled with the assignment I'm curious how he would choose to style and modernize the Karen cut. He did a great job executing what you asked and you totally showed people a new way to rock their haircut! Please do more of these where you show a completely different side of unpopular haircuts. You might popularize one!
I love this haircut! It’s my go to, except I have dark brunette hair with no highlights. I also don’t style it like the so-called Karen styling. I actually think the graduated bob is a really flattering cut!
I love the cut especially when you put in the extensions. I would love that haircut and have it go to the lowest point of my chin in the front. The haircut is also known as the Dorothy Hamill.
The versions or variations of this cut that I think tend to get the most “hate” is when 1) the front sections are a LOT longer than the sides/back (so it’s not a streamlined “graduated” line); 2) any coloring / highlights are very chunky and / or high contrast (so not blended); and 3) the top portion (and / or bangs) is not sleek or smooth, but rather “spiky” instead. Removing any of those (more extreme) factors, or a combination thereof, seem to be the key to taking it from “hated” (or tacky) to sleek and stylish. Of course, this is just my opinion based on what I’ve observed. As always, people should choose the style they like best. As usual, Stella, you rocked this! 🥰
@@_san_flower_ Personally, I don’t hate the style myself. I’ve just seen how other people have reacted to it, and noticed that certain variations seemed to elicit a more “emotional” response than others. And the thing is, since we all have different face shapes and features, one style could look terrible on me, but look fabulous on someone else. So it’s not the style itself that’s really the issue. And as Stella mentioned, styling can make a world of difference as well. ☺️
I'm half Maltese (born and raised in the UK) sometimes I love watching your videos because listening to your accent reminds me of relatives I don't see very often/have passed away 💖🇲🇹💖

The "Karen" is longer in the front. But it isn't the haircut that people hate, it's the people that have it (and exaggerated versions of it). I've always liked that haircut.
So funny I just did this same cut (before the clip ins lmao)on Saturday to blend out all my layers and I love it lol. Looks amazing cute and sophisticated on you!

Thank you for this comment. Exactly my thoughts, it seams not fair that when a woman is bold and outspoken it tends to be mocked, even worst if she is mature. Before they were called witches, now awe changed to Karen's. Sad.
You look sooo pretty with everything! Even this. I had this haircut and hated it, it was so hard to make it work and also I looked a hundred years older. It's so fun to watch experiment with hair!
I had this cut for years but a bit longer and I loved it! My niece used to cut it for me and it was perfect. However when I went to a hairdresser salon (as I moved) it wasn’t cut the same and it never fell in the right way. I also had a fringe with mine.
I’ve worn my hair in a Bob for decades. I have very thin, fine “white” hair so there are very few cuts that I can make look fuller than it is. The new straight Bob makes me look like the Dutch Boy Paint logo which I don’t think is flattering on me!
I love it. Normally I wear a similar style, more wispy and a dark auburn color. Sadly last week I went to a stylist I didn't vet well enough and now have a pixie. Sigh. Keeps me humble I suppose.
@Stella Cini "we can make it work with your face" - EXACTLY what I thought! If anyone can make it work... It's you! It's absolutely beautiful on you 😍 honestly, you really are the prettiest woman I've ever seen in my life.
I think that hair cut is beautiful and you look beautifully with it. my mom in her younger years always had that hair cute and she always looked beautiful and sophisticated.
I will say I think the actual Karen cut is more disconnected with a long fringe and nearly shaved in the back where it’s super short at the top and spikey
I refuse to call it a "Karen" haircut. It has been a great bob haircut for years. Love it! Especially love making the front sides chin length or longer to create a more dramatic cut/effect between the back and front. A reverse mullet if you will 😂. Hate the person, not the haircut.
I feel like a lot of hate also comes from people who decide to go short for the first time with a specific style in mind only to walk out with “the Karen” hairstyle as it seems the only style a lot of local hairdressers know how to do when it comes to short hair.
That's true, I never thought of it this way. Great observation. I think it also gives layers a bad rep for the people who ask for layers and get this done to them.
Personally, I don't hate it, but I think it's a kind of haircut that can easily make you look older, and can seem a bit boring. But Stella, as always, looks amazing with it. I need your magic and your confidence!
Neville is an amazing stylist ! And even though I agree I hate the cut ! It looks amazing on you! I love your videos and can’t wait to see what is next!!
I had this exact phase while growing my hair out from a pixie cut...such a horrible period of my life...love it on you, but it's really high maintenance🙈
This is a cute cut on you - in all variations. As a glasses wearer, I can say with conviction and personal experience that having bangs in my eyes drives me crazy.
I love what you have done with this haircut. But I am so in love with your current hair color. What tones/shades have you used to achieve this color? Because I would love to replicate it on my own hair.
Its interesting how a haircut gets a bad rep just because of the people who usually wear it. I actually like this haircut, i think i will consider getting it after trying the assymetrical pixie bob haircut.
idk if i would say that it looks like the karen cut at all since the back of it is more choppy(?) then yours. it reminds me more of the mom from parent trap.
Now that you seem to not want to change the color anymore for the next time i would love to See some crazy wig transformations. How to make a cheap wig beautiful would be cool. Also maybe pastel colors and things like mermaid coloring, prism coloring and cool difficult to do things. Maybe the underlayer rainbow and stuff.
I hate that this haircut - which is a classic A-line Bob first popularized by the Flappers in the Jazz Age - has somehow become synonymous with the hated "Karen." Very unfortunate.
How is this a 'classic A-line bob'? Google it.
But who cares right!! If you love it then rock it! No matter what other people says!
It has been my favourite haircut since 2008, it's ridiculous that people just decided to hate it.
Exactly! the whole “Karen” thing came from Kate Gosselin when she had that ugly reverse mullet which wasn’t even an A line bob. So we should actually be saying “she’s such a Kate” not “Karen”😅.
The Karen’s are the people judging other people as Karen’s by their freaking haircut.
It’s not the haircut, it’s the people with the cut. You are a beautiful person on the inside, so it’s beautiful on you!
She's beautiful inside and out ❤️
Honestly I like this style but when ever I see someone with it I immediately assume they’re a bad person
💯%
Shallow to judge people by their haircut.

I had this exact phase while growing my hair out from a pixie cut...such a horrible period of my life...love it on you, but it's really high maintenance🙈
Literally my favourite haircut on you ever obsessed!
It looks so 60s on you! Love it
Neville is a magician!
HE DID NOT CUT THE BACK AS SHORT AS THE PIC YOU SHOWED
I have this haircut and get a lot of compliments
Can’t wait for the 20 year olds to get this haircut and then be confused when people think they’re 40😂
So true. Like Stella always has a very youthful look with the short hair and fun colors but this definitely gave her a different vibe.
This is a cute cut on you - in all variations. As a glasses wearer, I can say with conviction and personal experience that having bangs in my eyes drives me crazy.
Now the Hair Colour Match perfectly to your natural 😊
It's gorgeous on you, but your current color is so warm & beautiful. Prob one of your best ( in my op)
I had this haircut and it was my favorite❤ it looks beautiful on you!
I love what you have done with this haircut. But I am so in love with your current hair color. What tones/shades have you used to achieve this color? Because I would love to replicate it on my own hair.
I'd say it's like a coppery light brown or dark blonde
Girl, you look good with anything. When you have a beautiful face anything looks good on you
What a beautiful hair cut!!! I loved it!!!!
The cut is absolutely stunning!
Love it with the middle part!!
That cut was VERY popular in the early 2000's and I had it and everyone loved it and I loved it, too. All black, though. No highlights.
For me I hate the front cut like that but it's totally cute, I swear to God Stella can rock any style 🥰
I love the haircut!!! You can rock any hair style ❤❤❤
A very blunt bob would be gorgeous ✨
You look so pretty with that hair cut,i love it.
This is not what I picture when I think of the "Can I speak to your manager?" cut. I expected more of a severe graduation from back to front.
And the spikes sticking out back 😂
@@Solitude11-11 exactly!
The front pieces need to be longer and thinned out with wisps on the longest part of the front pieces. The back has to be spiked with gel lol.
One of my favorite cuts on you so gorgeous!!❤❤
You’re so beautiful, it’s not fair you look amazing in any hair any anything!!
