    Thank you for your time making this video. I’m somewhat older than yourself and yes remember not my grandmother but mother and myself doing the cleaning of the silverware before Christmas every year. I agree with your opinion but honestly i haven’t heard of Twinkle Shine in Australia and use something similar to the Goddard product. I love your love of silverware and will endeavour to keep my old treasures going that have been given to me from my past generations. Thank you again.

    Sophia, you look so beautiful and graceful. You made me smile as you demonstrated the effort that goes into elegant entertaining. The writers of your etiquette books would have approved of this video! I have always wondered about the tin foil method. I will stick with my "quickie" polish. I found a beautiful set like that for $50 at a charity shop. I was so excited. Four years later it went back to the charity shop. I had NO interest in keeping up with the maintenance. I'm glad a set has found its way to you since you obviously value the beauty and quality enough to maintain it.

    Great Video Sophia! Love your whole look & manner! Love the way you transition from all the hard work of DIYs to giving TLC to the finer objects in your home!
    My memory of polishing was using Twinkle Copper cleaner to shine up the copper bottoms of my Mothers Revereware pots & pans. I loved watching those tarnished bottoms turn to gleaming copper!
    These days I use Wright’s cream for silver but recently I used it on a vintage tray & it didn’t do the job so I thank you for 2 new ideas to try!🎉

  • @stephenthompson5413
    @stephenthompson5413 Год назад +1

    I inherited my grandmother's Reed & Barton tea & coffee set, and found that over the course of nearly a century, much of the silver had worn off, revealing the base metal, At some expense, I had the set re-silvered, and now I polish it very rarely as the silver plate will probably wear off again. In retrospect, it was not really worth the expense of having the set re-silvered.

    • @mygreatchallenge
      @mygreatchallenge  Год назад

      I would not for a Reed and Barton they were pretty standard for wedding gifts etc. But I feel that when you value something and it is something you want to keep, it does not matter. In our home, silver was polished nce a year, for Christmas. No need the rest of the year. It was the chore I looked forward to the most.

    I really like your throwback glamorous hairdo, it's very suiting to your personality. It's va va va voom! And, your whole look is very, very nice. Lol. The coffee set is so intricately gorgeous. I love the ease and results of the 'Twinkle'. I would just do the silver early like you say and let it sit awhile for the dull to set in. I have the kid's plated baby banks, a duck, a bear, a carousel, and a photo frame. IDK if that's suitable for cleaning? They are sitting tarnished in the cedar chest. I could clean them and pass them on at Xmas? It's dawned on me, grandma had the silver box, but we Never polished, I think it was stainless in there? My husband did the rubbing of all the pieces like you say for his elder mom ~ Ha! We are laughing...grandma....you got me. Yes, he always did the grunt work: grating carrots, cleaning the pantry, peeling potatoes, polishing the silver. He was mama's little helper! I was only allowed to 'watch' until I married at 19 and started doing it all myself. Was the 1st time I ever rode a lawnmower! True! Cute. And, I've Never polished silver? Only buffing and put it back. Wow. Where have I been? I have a brass deer set I like to put out at Xmas. I'm wanting to touch, but Everyone says, don't remove the 'patina'! IDK what to do?

    Wonderful video Sophia! My only concern about the aluminum and baking soda/salt method is that the surface almost looks damaged; even after applying some Twinkle it didn't get back to normal. I wonder if anyone knows if this does permanent damage, or whether after tarnishing again, the original luster will come back with some Goddard's or Twinkle. Anyone know?
