Be very careful with that if you accept the programming of just accepting it's a show they can do anything they want and you'll accept it as just part of the show. Don't be dumb
"But his bosses didn't like him, so they shot him into space" Gee. That's almost as blunt an explanation as James And The Giant Peach's "and then a rhino ate the parents".
Honestly, I think the low budget and simplicity of it is what gave the original part of its charm. The reboot/sequel series has always felt too overproduced to me, even at the intro. It's not quite the same.
You know when I first watched the intro to this I thought that sending him to outer space was a bit much and wouldn't firing him make more sense... but then I saw the Joel made a vacuum accordion machine and it all made sense.
He must get food and oxygen shipped up by the mads. What I don't get is where he sleeps and where he gets all of the stuff to make new inventions every week. But I should probably just relax...I mean it's just a show.
At least there's a new season coming out on Netflix soon. Too bad we won't have it here in Scandinavia though... we never even had the show in English here, which really sucks. Maybe it will change now. I'd watch it in English subtitles though, since the jokes works best that way.
This is one of the 5 TV shows that literally changed my view of the world... The other 4 were Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-Men the Animated Series, Coupling (the British version), and Red Dwarf (The British version).
MST3K made me realize that it was okay to make fun of everything. Red Dwarf made me interested in British culture. X-Men made me realize that animation could be used in a continuous story, which is both entertaining and intelligent. Buffy the Vampire Slayer made me realize how deep stories could go. Coupling made me realize I could laugh even with two giant fucking needles in my arm... I was on dialysis the first time I watched it.
Good points. My favorite TV shows that I learned life lessons were from The Hulk, Highlander, Wonder Years, and Spider-man animated series. The Hulk: Made me interested in Science and becoming a better worker. When I leave a job, I can always come back to the job at any point in my life for establishing good relationships with customers and people that work there. Highlander: Taught me to live life as an immortal. Never settle or be complacent. Keep moving and experiencing different people in my travels. Learn many languages, write books, be a renaissance man etc. Never burn bridges with good people. Wonder Years: Taught me to always value family and friendships. It was more of a show that relates to my life: the girl next door crush, not being popular in school but popular among your circle of friends, meeting different women on family vacations and sharing kisses with them and sex and never seeing them again after the vacation. This got me into one of my jobs as a truck driver. I love an adventure over the open road. Spider-man TAS: This show got me into comics. I was a kid when this was out and Spiderman has always been my favorite hero. Peter Parkers physique taught me that big muscles arent everything. He beat his opponents who were much stronger than him by wit, nimbleness, luck, speed, and agility. One of the best cartoons I ever saw. I wish he choose Black cat over Mary Jane lol. Sorry if I misspelled several things. Im on my smartphone and the keyboard is very small. Too lazy to edit my work lol.
I remember a few shows changed my views. 12 Oz. Mouse taught me not to judge a cartoon by the way it looks, give even the ugliest and cheapest cartoon/show a chance and you might walk away pleasantly surprised. MST3K made me into a fan of watching bad movies, not only for the act of mocking them but also seeing them as a form of art that, while not technically proficient by any stretch, at least provide a more honest form of cinema than what plays in the average theater or is advertised on tv. Codename KND taught me the value of story, pacing and characters in a serialized animated show, as well as the fact that a cartoon for kids could tackle some very dark and mature themes without necessarily falling into the trappings associated with being 'mature' or 'edgy'. It also taught me that escalating a threat in a kids cartoon can go beyond "this villain is trying to destroy the world, next week another stronger villain is trying to destroy two worlds," to become "This week a pirate is trying to steal candy, next season a villain tries to destroy the KND organization, next season a villain tries to destroy the world, in the final season a sinister organization is trying to destroy the entire galaxy." There's probably more, but those are the ones that I can think of at the moment.

"Repeat to yourself it's just a show, I should really just relax". This would resolve so many nerd fights.
The more Hollywood breathes reboots and sequels, the more we need to remember this.
Facts.
They would then just argue about when exactly peace and unity began to reign over the nerd universe.
I use this line whenever someone questions something in a tv show around me.

Not gonna lie, the first time I heard the theme I thought they said "So they shot him in his face".
This is proof that you don't need a big budget to make a great show.
Sooooo true

Some shows take themselves too seriously, one reason why I love mst3k. It knows that the main goal is to entertain.
One of the best intros ever.
Now this is one TV show theme song that I cannot get out of my head as soon as I hear it, and that's totally fine with me. XD

I think it'd be cool if some TV station starting showing reruns of this.
The only problem is just getting the license to show the actual movies themselves.
