CB market is very similar to the OT one -- beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Some folks have the mega Oregon St. OT (Taliese Fuaga) ahead of JC Latham and Amarius Mims. I'd prefer tried-and-true RTs from the SEC for replacing Lane than a shorter armed PAC12 kid. Or another Oklahoma Sooner OT, in Guyton, to replace a legendary Oklahoma Sooner OT. I really would be shocked if there is a census CB1 even by draft time. I've loved Quinyon before he was getting first-round buzz, but arm length does matter. I think the tape is good enough, the athletic traits will be amazing, but there are 3-5 CBs who could be "CB2" or whatever. Should be interesting.

@@uncletom356 I actually agree , I wouldn’t be surprised if Arnold, DeJean, Wiggins or Mitchell goes off the board first, it’s all preference. But man to me Mitchell reminds me a lot of Darius slay. His foot work might be sloppy some times, but the way he attacks the ball, his athleticism, I also feel confident putting him on cd lamb all around the field, to me he’s cb1.

@@shawnrobinson6641 Yeah Mitchell does have some (decade+ younger) Slay in him doesn’t he? DeJean could be the wildcard. Assuming he “balls out” at the combine, with his versatility of CB and S, and his size/speed, would be tough to pass. Unless, of course, Mims/Guyton are on the board there.
This is really apropos of nothing, but there were so many idiots last year saying Riley Moss wasn’t drafted in the first-round because he’s white. The whole “the real racism is against white people” dorks. Anyway, when DeJean goes off the board on Day 1, hopefully, it’ll shut those people up, haha.
Here’s hoping for my usual PFF result of the mock draft: Latham/Mims/Guyton at 22, Lassiter with their first second-round pick and simply go BPA with their second second. There will be a good amount of trading. It’s what Howie does best. Between the four fifth-rounders and our seconds being so close together, as our third isn’t until 97, I think he’ll be tempted to space out the picks.
How about this scenario?! Mims/Guyton at 22 then trade both seconds to get back into Round 1 for Wiggins or DeJean? Though, I wonder if they’d do what they did last year with Kelee Ringo. They let everyone take their own favorite CBs early, then got the last remaining top-tier talent at CB for the price of a third. Maybe he does that again with Kalen King, who is falling like a lead balloon rn. Just food for thought. 🤷‍♂️

One final addendum: I forget if PFR put it in this video, but the video Jeremiah took of Quinyon going step-for-step on a double move from Roman Wilson was out of this world. Granted, it was one rep. Can’t get carried away. But between his metrics, eye test and not giving an inch of separation to one of the fastest prospects in an elite WR class, he’s definitely gonna be an NFL starter. He and Ringo manning the outside (‘25-onward) would be quite solid, with Syd and Reed - and whomever they draft/sign to be the big slot safety.
As much as I love talking prospects, it’s kinda annoying getting to know all these kids. And yet, we’ll only care about 3-5 of them once it’s early May lol.

Awesome content! I would still wait until after Free Agency to see how the Eagles address corner in the draft. A favorite player of mine is Javon Bullard. I know he's listed as a safety but, in the Saban/Kirby defenses he's really a nickel corner type. I think the Eagles need to target the Apex Defender position which has become nickel. Look at the Chiefs and McDuffie and how the defense revolves around.

As I'm convinced the Birds will use their 22nd (or earlier) pick on an OT (Latham, Guyton, Mims), PFR is correct in all these breakdowns. Love that he brings metrics into the equation. It's why he's the GOAT of breaking down Philadelphia-related content. I love Breaking the Birds, but he hasn't churned anything out in a while. PFR clearly has playing experience, and sees stuff I simply do not. And I (try to) look at every little bit of minutiae per prospect. Anyway, since Howie will likely pick an OT unless something bananas happens (Dallas Turner falling, Terrion Arnold being available -- though likely means the OTs are taken early), it'll be an OT in Round 1. *What about CBs with Day 2 grades, PFR?*

      @uncletom356 3 месяца назад

That was a big missed opportunity. But remember, great GMs tend to think the following way: I’d rather miss on a very good safety than pass up a generational interior defender. Clearly, Davis has yet to live up anywhere near those expectations. And Hamilton has been a stud. But I don’t view it as a total miss. I see it more as the same situation when we took Slim over Parsons. I really wonder if they’d take Kris Jenkins, if he’s on the board at 50 or 54. Would be a great long-term piece to have with Fletcher likely retiring soon. But there are reports that he may seek a multi-year deal that the Birds may have to decline. After all, you have to ride with the guys you have. Using top-13 and -9 picks in successive years on DTs, gotta spread “the wealth” to other positions.
I don’t think Davis will ever be as good a DT as Hamilton is a S. But if he gets himself into shape and stays healthy (two HUGE ifs), and Jalen Carter can do the same, he’ll get more 1v1 chances against significantly smaller guards.
Tl;Dr version: I think even Howie would take Hamilton if given the ability to travel back in time. But the reasoning was sound, if wrong, imo. If only he could’ve known in ‘22 that he’d have Carter in ‘23. Still, I have a hard time believing JD won’t step his game up once JC takes his game to the next level. We’ll see!

Howie not taking corners has been more circumstantial than anything. They do value corner when you look at the moves they've made to acquire them and contracts they've handed out over the years. Read the article I wrote about their draft history since Howie took over from Chip. If all else is equal, they'll pick the trenches over corner, but this is a year corner could be in play.
Now, I don't think they'll ever take safety in round one, but corner is a position I think they would.

*Request:* I'm sure you'd be able to find the consensus Day 2ish CB market. Whether it's early in Lassiter or mid-Day 2 for guys like TJ Tampa to late Round 3 guys like Max Melton or Kris Abrams-Draine. I'd love to see those, and more, broken down. You did a great job with the first-round CB prospects. But don't you think the "trench-loving" Birds will be looking at this insane OT class, especially as Jason retires and Lane is "only" 2-3 years away from it? Really curious to see how all of the above mentioned CBs in the 35-95 (or 97) range could pan out. Thanks man. You do great work. *Edit: Since Kalen King is this year's Kelee Ringo (star), could you break him down too? Thx man.*

I'll break more of those day two guys down later in the draft process. Wanted to get through some of the tops guys at the positions I think the Eagles could potentially take first and then I'll work down the board.
Yeah, I think the Eagles very well could end up taking an OT (fans don't want to hear that so wasn't going to be one of my first videos about the draft). And I'm not saying the Eagles are going to take a corner in the first, just looking at prospects at position where they have long term needs. And when looking at where they pick, a corner or two very well might be BPA.
The Eagles do value corner though, they've just typically gone through trades/free agency to acquire good ones. In addition, when you look at the Eagles time since Howie took back over from Chip, they really haven't had many situations where taking a corner in the first was that realistic when you factor everything in. If all else is equal, they're always going to take an OL (tackle) or pass rusher ahead of corner, but this could be a year where corner comes into play, especially with where they are picking in the draft. I don't rule out OT, but it's also hard to be sure they're going to take an OT in the first that might not play (outside of injury) for two years.

@@PhillyFilmRoom All true. Good analysis. Will eagerly await the Day 2 prospects. Birds def value CBs more than they used to. From all reporting, Surtain was the pick if he lasted one more slot. Think they even vetted Jaycee Horn hard.
I’m curious about your prospective EDGE breakdown. I’m fairly unimpressed with this year’s class. But if Latu, Verse or a slight trade up for Turner are there, I wonder if they’d select one.
As much as I want Latham, Mims or Guyton, there are a few intriguing Day 2 OTs (Kiran and Kingsley are athletic as hell, Paul has the pterodactyl arms) worth looking. Then again, when you’ve taken 2 DTs and an EDGE as your last three Day 1 picks, hard to keep picking the same general area. Granted, with BG and Fletch long in the tooth, it wouldn’t be crazy.
Just, Bradberry is ass. And Slay is only a year younger than me lol. So, yeah, definitely some urgency. I’m VERY curious to see how Ringo plays this season. Wish he had the 32”+ arms that teams like SEA covet. Small hands too. But a kid that young, that big and fast, with his college pedigree, one seriously has to wonder if he can be (at least?) a starting outside CB2.
I was ambivalent when they sent a top-90 pick for him. But it’s pretty clearly a win, unless something crazy happens with ‘em.
Last lil thought “experiment:” When we traded out of 32 post-Super Bowl, we acquired two seconds. I know Howie hates having multiple players with 5th year options, but he allayed those fears last draft. If Guyton or Mims or Latham are there at 22, and say, Wiggins is there at 27, wonder if they’d just bite the bullet and get two surefire starters. Even though I just wrote why an EDGE/DL may not be prudent, wonder if they’d “only” take one Round 1 guy but trade up from 50 to get another top prospect with a prospect who’s projected to be a fringe first/early second-rounder. Don’t you think a guy like Darius Robinson would be a great fit with the (fairly soon) losses of Fletch and BG?
Great draft to have 3 picks in the top-54, especially one where there are like 6 OTs who could be OT1s or OT2s in other drafts. That dude from Yale, Kiran, would be the one prospect I’d love on Day 2.
IS IT DRAFT DAY YET?! Ha.

Great video, just a few things I disagreed with:
-Arnold is suspect in off-coverage, often late to flip his hips, biting on double moves, or simply being slow to react.
-Kool-Aid is suspect when asked to block shed and tackle in space, often willingly getting blocked and making no impact whatsoever on the ball carrier.
-Rakestraw is slower than cold molasses and will get roasted in man coverage reps in NFL
-Everything you said about Lassiter except long speed was positive, but then rank him below all the other corners (why?)

    • @PhillyFilmRoom
      @PhillyFilmRoom  2 месяца назад

I don't think we differ that much on Arnold. I did start his convo by mentioning he hasn't performed statistically as well as some of the top corners in the class and picking him is a bet on the potential. And mentioned he converted from safety to corner when he got to college so he's still learning and wouldn't be surprised if Kool-Aid had the better rookie season of the two. Those things you mentioned are things that can be worked on, but I think he has the ability to make plays from different alignments.
Kool-Aid, I thought when he played with vision on the QB he was better in support. When he was in press he would carry the route downfield and not get in the play. But I saw enough reps of him beating blocks from TEs and tackling bigger backs that I didn't think it was a huge concern. Not like with Wiggins.
Rakestraw I didn't think was that slow. He played thru a groin injury his senior year so that might have played a factor.
For Lassiter, I think the long speed is a big question mark and it does matter at corner at a certain point. Him not running at the combine doesn't ease my concerns. We'll see if he can answer those questions at his pro day. His lack of ball production doesn't help as well.

    • @TheEaglesGuru
      @TheEaglesGuru 2 месяца назад

Fair enough, I think we mostly agree!
If long speed and ball production are knocks on Lassiter, then they obviously have to be applied to Rakestraw as well

Dude is a C-only (though could do the Cam Jurgens experience); and we already have our C of the future + our RG of the future + another possible RG if they take their Lane Johnson heir-apparent on Day 1 (or 2). Where does JPJ even fit in, if Steen is adequate at RG? I L-O-V-E love this channel. From "jump," when it had 250 subs or some nonsense. But the folks pushing JPJ, I do not get it. No worries, it helps the video get pushed out to more viewers haha. The Eagles have a need on the interior OL (assuming Kelce retires). Personally I don't think Steen showed enough his rookie year for me to say he's a locked in starter, they opted to play Opeta almost every time both were available. He could develop but I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket. And Considering they're about to pay Landon, I doubt they go to free agency to find someone.
I don't think JPJ is a center only. He played almost exclusively as a guard his sophomore year and he has the size, strength and athletic traits to play there in the pros. That would give the Eagles versatility along the OL as well, considering Cam's best position might be center anyway.
FWIW, Brandon Thorn (better OL evaluator than me) has JPJ's grade among the four best centers since 2021 and thinks he can slide to guard as well. Realistically though, I think they're more likely to go with an interior OL with one of their second picks.

@@PhillyFilmRoom But isn’t JPJ getting first-round love? I just don’t see any scenario where they’d take him that early. Although, you’re certainly not the only one insinuating such a scenario.
I love Thorn. He’s my go-to for any OL prospect. If he thinks he’s that good, it carries weight, no doubt. But you can’t just throw out a top-65 pick in a year. I, too, was frustrated with Steen. I don’t get why they thought he needed to be taken at 65. Frankly, he seemed like he’d have been available in their previous slot in Round 3 - 94, I think. Seems like they let Gannon off scot free.
He’s got T-Rex arms, but his lower half and hand usage are definitely both “plus.” I have to think Stout can make him a league average, at least, RG. ESPECIALLY if they transition from Lane to one of the Day 1 OT studs. You’d have an OL with no holes. And if Steen is the weak link, then deal with that in due time.
With the holes we have - outside CB, inside CB/S, the “Jenkins” S role, LB, RB, EDGE, I’d be flabbergasted if Howie used a top-54/64 overall pick on an interior lineman. Especially after taking Landon, Cam and Steen in successive years. And Steen being the “lowest” pick at 65. Idk man, I really respect your analysis and opinions. I just don’t see JPJ coming here. But yeah I agree I don't think they'll give up on him that early but I guess it depends on what they really think of him now that they have him in the organization. We can't see the behind the scenes stuff like work ethic, commitment and stuff. I'm not questioning it, but there's stuff we don't know. Only the Eagles know how they feel about him right now.
They quickly made up for the Reagor debacle by drafting DeVonta the next year, so there's some precedent they'll double down if they feel the need. I'm not saying they will pick JPJ but I'm sure there's discussions about it.
I do agree there are more important needs but I do think they fill some of those in free agency. LB in particular (could still draft one if one they like falls to them) and I would think safety. It's a great safety group in FA and I think they'd rather have a veteran in that room instead of another young guy in the draft. Plus, Howie has a history of trying to get safeties in FA or through trades

@@PhillyFilmRoom I have no idea who they would've targeted if Steen weren't there. I highly doubt it would've been Gigantor from OSU -- Dawned Jones, due to the fact he's a RT-only OL. Would they have pivoted? That'd be my guess. The names available after Steen include but are not limited to: Tank Dell, Byron Young, Garrett Williams, Jalin Hyatt, Zach Harrison, Tucker Kraft (my personal choice), Josh Downs, Tyjae Spears, YaYa Diaby, De'Von Achane, Kobe Turner, Darnell Washington and a litany of iLBs. That was just in the third-round, too.
Point being: Stout has his "top secret" (ten, I think) traits which he covets in an OL. The fact Steen was an OT --> OG convert after transferring from Vandy to Bama to protect Young's blindside, with his yeeks and massive paws, I just don't see how they'd take another iOL.
I think some of his best traits -- and again, I was not a fan, at first of the Steen pick -- are intangible. The way he's able to pass off rushers and take-on a stunting one is impressive. While he has sub-33" arms, they're just barely below the threshold. His legs look like Javon's.
I, too, am very intrigued by JPJ as a prospect-loving nerd. But I'd be willing to bet everything I own they will not be taking JPJ. Especially since Mims, Latham or Guyton (or Fashanu, if it got really crazy) all being viable Round 1 choices. They've got all the measurables one could ever want from a franchise RT. So, it stands to reason they'd be able to push Tyler a bit.
I really appreciate your insight, as most of my friends think I'm crazy for being this deep into prospect watches. However, I'll have to politely disagree on any chance they select JPJ. He'd have to fall to 97, imho, for them to even consider it. And as you mentioned, if Thorn thinks he's an elite C-prospect, he likely won't make it out of Round 1. Hell, the best case scenario would him being selected in the top-21 lol. Take care. Keep churning out the unbelievably good content... when you have time. Well I wouldn't pass on guys with round one or two grades because of Eli Ricks, who went undrafted and had a very up and down year.
The draft isn't just for filling needs this year either. The only corners under contract for 2025 will be Ringo, Ricks and a plethora of other practice squad players (Slay and Bradberry will be cut by then due to poison pills in their contracts).
Rodgers has been a solid player and if he does play well, will certainly garner a decent contract in the offseason. And the fact that the Colts cut him gives me pause about how good he really is. Corner is a highly valued position, if they felt he was that good then they wouldn't have cut him. At the very least, someone in the NFL would've traded for him. He's also 5'10 and 170lbs, he has limitations.

I get Wiggins #1 for you and that is defensible. But not even including DeJean on this list? Come on, man.

I don't have Wiggins #1, just think he's the best corner in terms of coverage. Too many questions about his willingness in the run game and when needing to tackle for me to put him #1.
I think DeJean can be a good corner in the NFL as long as he doesn't have to play a ton of man coverage. But I think his skill set would be utilized much better at safety or in a role where he can be deployed all over the field as opposed to saying he has to lineup as an outside corner every play.

@@PhillyFilmRoom I'm not sure I understand why some think he cannot cover in man. He had to do that ALL the time in college and was excellent in that role. The safeties often left him alone with his man and helped everywhere else.

@@billnolte8644ehh not really. In 2023, Iowa was last in Cover 1 rate in the Power 5 (6.6%). When combined with Cover 2 Man and Cover 1, they were 66th out of 69 teams. Their primary coverage was Cover 3 (6th @ 38.8%) while mixing in a good amount of Cover 2 Zone and Cover 6. It was similar in 2022.
He played much of his reps from a side turn that allowed him to key routes and read the QB and he was very good at that. That helped him cap deep routes and teams often converted to curls and hitch routes underneath which helped him maintain a low yards per target allowed.
When in press, he often opened up his hips immediately and gave WRs a free release. That's something he can get better at with practice, but he's not as fluid as the other top guys so I doubt he'll ever excel in press due to not being able to transition as smoothly. He also wasn't great locating the ball on go routes with his back to the QB, but part of that was due to opening the gate and giving free releases.
He's also a tad slow out of breaks or when having to change directions compared to some of the other guys. That's not all that surprising considering he's 205lbs+, it's just harder to be able to break as quickly at that size. He was 143rd in forced incompletion rate out of 201 corners over the past two seasons and that's a big reason why in my opinion.
When watching his film, I wanted to find some of the top guys he faced off against, but he didn't face many good WRs this past year. Probably the best was Daniel Jackson from Minnesota, but they hardly faced each other in the game and the Minnesota QB was not very good. Still, that was DeJean's worst coverage grade of the year.
When looking at who Iowa played this year (with DeJean healthy), the highest rated passing offense in terms of yards per game was Utah St (44th). They played a ton of really bad offenses. Going back to the Ohio State game from 2022, that was his worst coverage grade of his career. It's not DeJean's fault who they played, but when factoring in some of the stuff I saw on tape, plus not playing many top level/NFL talent, I have some concerns that he's going to be a good man coverage corner in the NFL, especially against really quick/shifty wideouts.
Again, he is great in zone and has good ball skills. But I think his best traits would be wasted just sticking him as an outside corner every play. He's a weapon that should be deployed all over the field.
