Therapist here 🙋‍♀️ and trust me separation anxiety is a real thing and I've noticed a big rise in separation & social anxiety since lockdown. We've all gotten used to our own little comfort zone, and socially anxious people have had a perfect excuse to avoid seeing people (covid). But now that excuse is becoming less valid and people are noticing their anxiety shoot up. My advice would be to take it slow, push yourself a bit at a time and build it up gradually. Also, make a note of how anxious you are at the start of a trip vs the end. Usually we find that the initial anxiety is the worst and that leads us to avoid/give up before giving the anxiety a chance to fade. But keep going! You're doing fab!

I never comment on these videos, but i really wanted to reach out to you! I am probably the same age as your parents, and have kids similar age to you, but I completely relate to what you are saying, as i used and sometimes still do get very anxious when leaving home ! I am the most laid back relaxed person at all other times! What you are doing is totally the right thing, slowly push yourself out of your comfort zone regularly and your confidence will grow...! I found leaving too much time in between put me back to square one, so try doing it as often as you can.. this is what i did, and it ended up with me going abroad for 6 months it was so hard to begin with, but i had the time of my life.. so keep going its so worth it even when you feel anxious!!

We do a death day anniversary meal of the deceased’s favourite food. In this case cream tea. And drink a toast. We also have quite a few of their possessions still in the family and make a point of using them. Both generally, but especially on that day. Gone but not forgotten.

I was always that kid that tried to do sleepovers and had to get picked up by my dad at midnight because I was crying to go home! I absolutely understand the homesickness thing! When I was in year seven and I was staying with my grandparents, I got so homesick and had to cry all the time and I was just feeling miserable. Even though they were my family and I felt so bad for the whole situation, it was horrible. And then last year I moved out for university and then corona came and it was the worst. The first few weeks in the new city I cried every single day and I seriously thought about quitting my studies just to be able to be at home. But one year later I can safely say I love uni and living on my own, so anyone else can get there too!

I also get so homesick. I was accepted into a semester abroad in Greece while I was in college, and I turned it down because I was too scared to leave home. Even now, I’m married and in my 30s and traveling for work fills me with anxiety and dread because I just want to be home with my husband. I used to regret that it held me back from so many things, but now I’m just grateful to have a home, a partner, and a family I love so dearly that I don’t want to leave them, even for just a couple nights. I have come to appreciate my homebody nature and accept it. I still get frustrated with myself from time to time, but I’ve come a long way! This is all just to say that I see you and hear you on the homesickness since we were just little kids!

90 mins away - great first step & it looks like you had so much fun. I loved your cooler (can I confess when I went to London in 2019 I took my favorites, drink every day tea just because I like my own stuff - I did get a bit of a laugh from the quarantine guy). Our whole world was turned upside down last year - it's going to take a bit for all of us to find our way out. This is step 1 of you getting to NYC!

And I really want to travel and experience the world yet my fears and anxiousness hold me back! I'm envious of my friends who can just get up and go without a worry in their minds or hearts. It may be an attachment issue or fear of something, I'm studying psychology so maybe one day I'll find the answer and ways to get over it or cope with it better! But don't worry, I 100% understand how you feel and definitely experience the same struggles!!

And I literally have the house number of my childhood home tattooed on my wrist. But I also moved 4 hours away for like 5 and a half years and then moved back to my hometown but into my own place, so I’d like to think I’m fairly well adjusted now. My point is, 1. you’re not alone and 2. you don’t have to do things according to anyone else’s timeline.

Your homesickness might stem from being the youngest child. I too am the youngest and I had CRIPPLING anxiety from leaving home until I just up and left when I was 18. I was so tired of feeling that way that I moved out, just up the road from my house. After 2 weeks I was completely fine. Since then, I've moved across the country for the past 10ish years. I hope you don't let it hold you back forever. Once you go you'll be feeling better, hopefully!

@@pjequinelady4726 That is amazing! Having a fear of living your life independent of your family can be challenging for some for sure. I only used that as reference because some people's personalities almost feel guilty about being the last one to leave. When I was Grace's age, I had a very similar personality and that was my fear. I didn't want them to be lonely and I was scared. I have since not felt that way but it did take some time! I am so glad you didn't have to go through that, it truly is an awful feeling!

Always been homesick really fast even if i slept like literally 5 houses away from my parents. Now I'm getting homesick when im separated from my soon to be husband. My friend planned a little trip before the wedding where i have to be apart from him for just one night and it's kinda stressing me out. So i get you!!

If it makes you feel better, I was exactly like you when I was younger and then a couple of years ago I became the complete opposite. I travelled to Australia for a month after never even being on a plane and now after COVID I plan on moving there for longer.
There’s nothing wrong with being a home bird but I promise you, if you want that to change it is possible :) just go at your own pace and do what feels right for you xx

Sorry about the home sickness Grace. These things can be hard. Just because Covid came means it just wasn’t the time but now May just be the time for you to shine ✨ on your own away from your comfort zone a little more and a little more 😉. Best wishes x

The pathway to the little house you were staying at gave me some Holiday (the romantic comedy with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz) vibes. So cool. I'm setting up my next girl alone weekend getaway.

It's perfectly ok to brush without toothpaste. A lot of what makes toothpaste desirable is the flavoring. The brush by itself will take the crumbs off your teeth....

Depends on your comfort/confidence level and if you did end up introducing yourself to the owners across the street, but I bet if you’d popped round in the morning and asked they’d have lent you some tooth paste or mouth wash! The place looked lovely and seemed like you had such a wholesome time! Very healing 🙌🏼

I have the exact same problem of being homesick. I never could have sleepovers I would just cry until I puked and then the older I get I just get really really homesick. It’s really hard.

Grace, in North America, when you return things through Amazon, they mainly throw the things away. Do they also do that in the UK?
