Sorry if this got answered already.
That 37mm on the Otsu is the of the Canon d'Infanterie de 37 modèle 1916 TRP family. It’s a WW1 man portable bunker buster and more in line with a direct fire, breach loading 40mm grenade launcher. The best APHE round for it was 13mm of flat penetration at 100m. That’s why the Dingo was shrugging it off. For comparison an M2 Browning is doing twice that with 25mm at 100m.
Meanwhile that Type 98 Ke-Ni is equipped with an actual AT gun in the Type 100 37mm. It does around 25mm pen at 1km, likely around 45mm at 100m. Its HE would be absolutely pathetic though. The Ha-Go actually sits between the two. So ideally you would use the Otsu as infantry support, the Ha-Go as general use, and bring the Ke-Ni in to stop armor.
The rear facing MG was for hosing the engine deck of attacking infantry if overrun. The engine deck has and is still a weakspot but back then it was a common point of attack for infantry without better AT options. It also reduced the turret size needed for fitting the main gun AND the coaxial gun while giving the commander a weapon to use. Generally a really bad idea in the long run though.
It wasn’t actually called the knee or thigh mortar by the Japanese. That was an American mistranslation and misinterpretation of captured training manuals. Firing the mortar from your thigh would do some pretty horrendous things to your femur.
Tank classification is based on assigned role rather than arms or armor. Thus a US M5 Stuart light tank weighs 15 tons while an Italian M13/40 medium tank weighs 14 tons.
The Type 97 Chi-Ha with the 120mm short gun is equipped with a naval 120mm anti-submarine howitzer. Designed as a super short range weapon against close range submarines surfacing. There was a single instance of a Type 3 high velocity, long barreled 120mm being mounted on the tiny Chi Ha. The results of firing that would’ve torn the tank apart so it’s unfortunately unknown if it was a field mod or a prototype pushed into service.
You were right on the money with the Type 38 120mm gun, it’s a WW1 gun design.
It’s funny you mention the Type 4 looking like a Garand. It’s a reverse engineered Garand in Japanese 7.7mm. They originally tried to rechamber captured Garands in 7.7 and found everything worked except for the k clip feed system. So the recreated the garand with a new integral magazine.
The type 2 Ho-I was an SPG bu The Type 3 Ho-I Kou was the pre prototype for the Type 4 Chi-To and part of the desperate Anti tank attempt to stem the tide of UK and US Armor. You should think of it as a turreted tank destroyer. It had an experimental high velocity 57mm AT gun but by the time it was ready the rising sun was quickly setting. Sherman Jumbos were starting to be used.

Nice commentary RaeSyngKane 😘! Appreciate the info.. If I every run this mod. or if the Japanese faction is officially added to the game (in their own DLC), I'll refer to this (know will upgrade troops with bolt-action rifles to Type 4's ASAP 😉). Would have to say (by far..) hope the Japanese would be the next faction added. Modelling underground bunker systems used by the Japanese could see to cause pathing issues 🤔. Would be hard to recreate in the game for in a number of locations were several floors deep underground.

Apologies if this was something brought up at another point, but 7.7x58mm Arisaka's parent-cartridge (the round it was based upon), was the 7.7x56mmR round, which is more commonly known as British .303. This assists in explaining some of the calibers of certain weapons, such as the Lewis Gun chambered in it during Battle 6.

When it comes defining Warships, the speed and armour were defining features, but the international definition for ships during inter-war era, was mainly the Tonnage, followed by somewhat crude definition of armour thickness, usually comparing the main belt of the ship, followed by gun calibre, for light cruisers 6 in or 152.4 mm was kinda the standard, there were ships that went under that caliber and that went over taht caliber, same applies to heavy cruisers, British and french did test during the inter-war era stuff that had off-set main calibre gun for heavy cruisers, like in the ballpark of 190mm instead of the usual 8 in or 203 mm, and japanese tested 200mm main guns on the furutaka -class, germans had the 210mm guns on the blucher, and few other of their heavy cruisers.
The same kind of crude classification applies to tanks also, PZ 2 J wasn´t the only one of the factory kit´s for infantry support, there was the PZ 1 F which had similar armour scheme. Different countries did different kinds of doctrines on the matter of land and sea warfare. Easiest way for general classification in ww1-ww2 is to use the weight, and main gun caliber.

i think its fair bro sometime like german reused 76mm (r) fk as Field Artilery and Anti tank and i think japanese use some enemy captured cloth like some american pants and some shirt
