Ps, it's not quite as pretty as yours but I'm still working on my icing skills😬It doesn't seem like it should be so hard to get that nice smooth flat top & sides but surely I'll get there, right😏lol. Maybe I should start from the sides & then to the top like u do. I've always done the opposite.

@@emmacocks2891 u can use veggie oil or canola oil (i would recommend using a neutral oil like veggie over olive), but really, any kind of oil works (you must use oil though). this recipe isn't supposed to rise a lot. if you want it to rise more, just use more batter. double the recipe for 8/9 inches
Although I have found a few other bakers using this technique, nobody else figured out that if you turn the cake upside down it has the beautiful curve of the rainbow! I used standard 9-in. pans and my layers were really thin (just noticed that Emma recommends 7-inch). The thin layers aren't necessarily a problem but I just prefer a thicker cake layer to offset the frosting. I would make this again and double the recipe if using larger pans. The rainbow effect turned out great!
This recipe is incredible! Great vanilla flavor and nice tight crumb/firm cake. I am using the recipe for the inside of a narwhal shaped cake and was able to carve it into the right shape very easily. Really glad to have found your channel.

Hi Emma - another question :) The drip will be a one shot addition, without ruining the cake. How long does it take for the blue drip to set enough to get nice drips? So not too runny, or too thick. Do you refrigerate it, or leave it at room temperature to set up? Thanks!

I love how you relate to all of us in our home kitchens. Mostly in relation to using frosting (cream cheese is also my favorite) over fondant, cause let's be honest 'nobody got time for that'. But also how you use everyday tools. Your videos are great, I subbed.

Speaking of, you're almost at 20,000 already! I think that you should redo this, but instead of using food coloring using different kinds of cake, and I mean like mashing up blueberries and strawberries... and I still want my candy cake... I know it's a lot but you should know that you don't have to do anything. I just like watching your videos because you're a wondrous baker and the world is finally starting to see that. :D

I made this for my son's 18th birthday, except I used homemade whippey icing because that it his favorite. It turned out gorgeous! Not quite as beautiful as yours, but it still amazed everyone! Thank you so much for making this video so that I could make him the perfect cake!
