I spent the entirety of my teenage years with Pontac and Graff’s writing of Sonic. I started by buying Colors, Black Knight, and Unleashed together and beat them about the same time. The second two in my self-assembled Sonic starter pack probably softened the blow, but I didn’t even know they were written by different people because I was young and easily influenced. Fast forward the better part of a decade, it was about the point where the credits roll in Forces where I realized “I can’t believe this kind of writing was what younger me came to enjoy Sonic through, I possibly won’t buy any more Sonic games.” But then Frontiers came along, broke down my door, stuck a pair of soap shoes on, and yelled “let me show you just what I’m made of”. After Giganto, I was just like “thank.”

@@AizakkuAnalysis I looked into it, and I have a feeling the Japanese script was adapted from Pontac and Graff's script, like Ian Flynn's work on Frontiers, not the other way around. I think it has something to do with Sonic being more popular in the West than in Japan.
Jesus I know that the writing hasn't been great since colours but it was tolerable. But when forces happened I was REALLY trying to find something good about the game that wasn't the music

@@Filipe1020 tbh zavoks theme is a straight up headbanger imo same with infinites boss fight music's but synth is also a more acquired taste usualy. Which I didn't think I'd enjoy much until dmc5 king cerberus grew on me lol. Now I jam to it. The problem is forces heavy use of while while imo is extremely well done is definitely a risky move since its a lesser enjoyed thing compared to orchestral and whatnot which makes forces ost rather controversial imo.
As much as people didn’t realize it then, Forces was sort of a step in the right direction. There were still some corny moments like when Sonic is in jail talking to Zavok, but I’m glad they at least made somewhat of an attempt at a serious story which paved the way for Frontiers having a great story which is up there with Unleashed, Adv 2, and Black Knight.
Speaking of Pontac&Graft, imagine what happened if they wrote the story for IDW sonic, i can imagine the character will be act like this 1.) Takashi Iizuka hired that fatso living in Toronto, Trudeaustan, to write the english script of the Sonic Frontiers Game, adding 2 mary sues, such as Stick The Badger, and Lesbian Tangle The Lemur. You Ian Flynn Fanatics, treat this Fat Leftist living up in Trudeaustan, as if he is Yuji Naka, or Naoto Ohshima, being important to the Sonic Franchises, when he is screwing it up, just as he done to the Sonic Archie Comics, but everything Ian Flynn does, your going to blame it all on Ken Penders, and Sega, instead of him.
Ian Flynn is a worst writer than Ken Pontac, and Warren Graff, not to forget how traumatic his writings really are, including the truth of the heart, friends no more!, and the Zombot Series of the cancerous idw comic, which is absolutely horrible, not entertaining, neither is it teaching young audiences a valuable lesson. Tails punching Sonic, his adopted big brother, just because he was dating Fiona, before Tails embarrassingly asked her out, is totally unacceptable, and Tails should be the one to be apologizing to Sonic, but yet, Sonic apologize to him instead for dating Fiona, when he dated Fiona before Tails asked her out, this is just teaching the Child Audiences to be spoiled brats like Tails, getting away with their bad behavior over they really want, but didn't get, including hitting their guardian who never did the same to them before, than the guardian apologize to them, which just makes Ian Flynn a terrible influence to his younger audiences who read his Archie comics, and not to forget his IDW Comic, were Sonic gaslight Shadow, when that is totally out of Sonic's character in the Canon video games, cause he done the absolute opposite of that in the Sonic Battles Game. Plus, The only involvement which Ian Flynn had with the Sonic Frontiers Game, was writing for the English Dub of The Game, he has absolutely nothing to do with the original Japanese Version, yet, you Ian Flynn Fanatics give this liberal fat man living up in Toronto Trudeustan over the game, when it is Morio Kishimoto who made the game, but none of you give Morio Kishimoto any credits for making the game. I'm glad people within the fanbase are finally mocking those hacks. Some of the worst writers ever; hands down. Had zero respect for source material, the culture behind the IP and its fandom. Their writing was so bad that it even got people reconsider how bad Sonic 06 written (that's how low the bar came down); say what you will about the rushed story in that game, but Shadow is fire in that and honestly Solaris was a cool concept; if only the game wasn't rushed through the door by the incompetents at the time driving SEGA's management. Outside of Generations which is a good, but not great homage to the history of the IP (particularly not story or character wise) the 2010's for this franchise have been utterly dire to say the least. It's good to finally see the characters as themselves again and not Disney Play-House rejects...

As for where I was for that reason I literally never played Colours, Lost World and you can forget about even pressing the start menu on Forces... There was non-ironically a time where people were praising the writing in colours embarrassingly from a: 'comedic standpoint' in addition to suggesting that the IP due to 06 or Shadow The Hedgehog not be anything other than a dumb down children's platformer with flanderized characters. @Ultimate Sora I wouldn't say it was great, but compared to any of the garbage we got in the 2010's up until now with Sonic Frontiers finally breaking that trend I'd have it any day over them. Also the Elise kidnapping plot was clearly due to time constraints; what's the most convenient way of making excuses for the main characters to get through the game faster. Have the princess moved to another castle... Silver's was decent though and Shadow was epic.
I mean their writing is mainly why I left the fanbase for the past 12~ish years- It was so bad and far from how the characters usually acted that I refused to even watch the games, let alone buy them- I'm so glad the writing seems to be going back in a better direction,, :,D
Tbh I have never really minded Pontac and Graff since Colors was my first Sonic Game and I have a soft spot for bad jokes (except for potty and gross out humor). But I definitely prefer the games and other media that treat you as an intelligent individual who can remember what is going on without being reminded every 5 seconds. All the p&g games needed was to forget the 7-9 target audience and go the distance. Lost World could have been great had they given it a more serious tone and had you actually fight robo-tails. Jokes should be a side dish, not the main course.

@@AizakkuAnalysis I looked into it, and I have a feeling the Japanese script was adapted from Pontac and Graff's script, like Ian Flynn's work on Frontiers, not the other way around. I think it has something to do with Sonic being more popular in the West than in Japan.

@@Filipe1020 tbh zavoks theme is a straight up headbanger imo same with infinites boss fight music's but synth is also a more acquired taste usualy. Which I didn't think I'd enjoy much until dmc5 king cerberus grew on me lol. Now I jam to it. The problem is forces heavy use of while while imo is extremely well done is definitely a risky move since its a lesser enjoyed thing compared to orchestral and whatnot which makes forces ost rather controversial imo.

As much as people didn’t realize it then, Forces was sort of a step in the right direction. There were still some corny moments like when Sonic is in jail talking to Zavok, but I’m glad they at least made somewhat of an attempt at a serious story which paved the way for Frontiers having a great story which is up there with Unleashed, Adv 2, and Black Knight.
Good thing that they didn't actually write that story then.

Ian Flynn is a worst writer than Ken Pontac, and Warren Graff, not to forget how traumatic his writings really are, including the truth of the heart, friends no more!, and the Zombot Series of the cancerous idw comic, which is absolutely horrible, not entertaining, neither is it teaching young audiences a valuable lesson.
Tails punching Sonic, his adopted big brother, just because he was dating Fiona, before Tails embarrassingly asked her out, is totally unacceptable, and Tails should be the one to be apologizing to Sonic, but yet, Sonic apologize to him instead for dating Fiona, when he dated Fiona before Tails asked her out, this is just teaching the Child Audiences to be spoiled brats like Tails, getting away with their bad behavior over they really want, but didn't get, including hitting their guardian who never did the same to them before, than the guardian apologize to them, which just makes Ian Flynn a terrible influence to his younger audiences who read his Archie comics, and not to forget his IDW Comic, were Sonic gaslight Shadow, when that is totally out of Sonic's character in the Canon video games, cause he done the absolute opposite of that in the Sonic Battles Game.
Plus, The only involvement which Ian Flynn had with the Sonic Frontiers Game, was writing for the English Dub of The Game, he has absolutely nothing to do with the original Japanese Version, yet, you Ian Flynn Fanatics give this liberal fat man living up in Toronto Trudeustan over the game, when it is Morio Kishimoto who made the game, but none of you give Morio Kishimoto any credits for making the game.
Not to forget, both Ian Flynn's Mary Sue, Tangle The Lemur, along with Stick The Badgers from the Cringey Sonic Boom series, are not mentioned in the Original Japanese Version of the Sonic Frontiers Game, Fatlib Flynn added this in the game when writing for the English Dub of it.
The English Dub of Sonic Frontiers, just makes the game cringe, with Tangle, and Stick, 2 Mary Sue's, being mentioned in the game.

As for the game, the original writing is Ian Flynn's and Morio Kishimoto adapted the script to appeal more to the Japanese audience and Ian Flynn did way better job with the characterisation of the characters in just one game than Ken Pontac and Warren Graff did in an entire decade of writing

I'm glad people within the fanbase are finally mocking those hacks. Some of the worst writers ever; hands down. Had zero respect for source material, the culture behind the IP and its fandom. Their writing was so bad that it even got people reconsider how bad Sonic 06 written (that's how low the bar came down); say what you will about the rushed story in that game, but Shadow is fire in that and honestly Solaris was a cool concept; if only the game wasn't rushed through the door by the incompetents at the time driving SEGA's management. Outside of Generations which is a good, but not great homage to the history of the IP (particularly not story or character wise) the 2010's for this franchise have been utterly dire to say the least. It's good to finally see the characters as themselves again and not Disney Play-House rejects...

As for where I was for that reason I literally never played Colours, Lost World and you can forget about even pressing the start menu on Forces... There was non-ironically a time where people were praising the writing in colours embarrassingly from a: 'comedic standpoint' in addition to suggesting that the IP due to 06 or Shadow The Hedgehog not be anything other than a dumb down children's platformer with flanderized characters. Eugh, anyway it's all over now.
@Ultimate Sora I wouldn't say it was great, but compared to any of the garbage we got in the 2010's up until now with Sonic Frontiers finally breaking that trend I'd have it any day over them. Also the Elise kidnapping plot was clearly due to time constraints; what's the most convenient way of making excuses for the main characters to get through the game faster. Have the princess moved to another castle... Silver's was decent though and Shadow was epic.
I mean their writing is mainly why I left the fanbase for the past 12~ish years- It was so bad and far from how the characters usually acted that I refused to even watch the games, let alone buy them- I'm so glad the writing seems to be going back in a better direction,, :,D
The last Sonic game I genuinely enjoyed was Unleashed. Id even say its the last good one.
Tbh I have never really minded Pontac and Graff since Colors was my first Sonic Game and I have a soft spot for bad jokes (except for potty and gross out humor). But I definitely prefer the games and other media that treat you as an intelligent individual who can remember what is going on without being reminded every 5 seconds.
All the p&g games needed was to forget the 7-9 target audience and go the distance. Lost World could have been great had they given it a more serious tone and had you actually fight robo-tails. Jokes should be a side dish, not the main course.
