The transfer portal is getting crazy in my opinion. It’s really hurting the game at this point. The playoff games are only gonna be the games that worth watching just take a sample of the Florida and Tulane game Tulane starting quarterback transfer and it’s a blowout at this point both games are useless to watch
the non-playoff games were already a bit of a joke pre-portal (once the "sitting out because I don't want to hurt my NFL draft stock if I get injured" shit started) but now the non-playoff games are full on meme-territory. 3rd stringers playing QB, etc. The fans aren't getting to see anything that resembles the actual teams they watched during the regular season so these games are pretty dumb
What makes you assume that those JUCO 24-25 years old will have starter positions? If they couldn’t make it to D1 right afterwards, they won’t be more competitive just practicing against JUCO level. In fact they are just getting older and more injury prone with more years of playing.
@@cesardejeronimo8184brother no one thinks all JUCO players will have starting positions but they certainly will have a developmental advantage and a experience advantage over the average HS athlete… believe it or not men reach there athletic prime in mid to late twenties and a 25yr old has a massive genetic advantage over a 19yr old plus all JUCO players aren’t exactly the bum athletes that didn’t have the talent to go D1. A lot of them are more than gifted enough to play D1 ball but might have academic problems or played at a lesser HS and never got the looks they deserved….
I see this having multiple effects on the athletes, 1. The true student/athletes will be getting their master's and doctorate degrees taken care of while playing sports. 2. Like Matt said, JuCos will essentially become prep schools. The other thing to keep in mind is that the high schoolers will have to get recruited to good JuCos to even make the next step. 3. I mentioned this to someone last night. Since NAIA, USCAA, NCCAA and USports aren't a part of the NCAA, will any time spent at those schools count towards NCAA eligibility? You could have someone play 3-5 years at one of these schools and transfer to an NCAA school and get 4 years of eligibility. That judge opened yet another one of Pandora's boxes.
I don't think they will have enough time to get PhDs. Not counting a redshirt year: 4 years for BA/BS; 1.5-2 years for MA/MS; 4-6 years (minimum) for PhD. JUCO isn't giving any of those degrees, maybe an Associate's degree, so that'd only take 2 years off the journey. Not enough time to add on 3-4 years of doctorate study plus a dissertation.
I don’t think this is going to change much at all. The top HS talent will still get gobbled up by D1 schools. D1 programs aren’t going to pass on top talent and too talent isn’t going to pass on NIL. This is only going to affect the kids on the fringe, like it always has. Do I think this is a good rule? Meh, it’s debatable. It’s great for late bloomers, just like Matt said. I was a late bloomer. There's actually not an age limit to play in college football. So you can have a 40 year old get enrolled and tryout for the football program. I actually don't have a problem with this rule, but I do have a problem with the NCAA not offering any real parameters just like the NIL and transfer portal. The NCAA seems content to sit back and offer no real guidance or enforcement to the rules.
They can’t. A federal judge granted a preliminary injunction earlier this year that prohibits the NCAA from punishing any student-athletes negotiating NIL deals during the recruitment process or while they’re in the transfer portal. The portal is now an even more overpowered free agency for college athletes and I love it.
18,500 D1 football athletes...1,694 NFL spots...there will be some guys really dammmm good thats 26 years old and balling for a team like UCF that just never got drafted
MattBeDiddy back with another banger, im not so sure about the rule change, but thanks for making my Friday better, just got out of the hospital wednesday afternoon so been a rough week, but man am I ready for playoff Friday.
I’d be careful saying these 6 year players “aren’t very good” big difference between good, good at the NCAA level vs can he make a pro roster? Plenty of dudes still “good” but the best they’ll do is 6 years of NCAA ball. Nothing wrong with that and it’s probably needed.
Right i think it's a good idea. Maybe a 21 age cap. And itll be 3yrs for ages 22+. And these HS athletes need to develop. Plus its about the money. It's the ppls fault for wanting to pay players who get "scholarships."
College is for adult imo, if you’re an adult you can play, I think this is gonna be better for the sport because it will grow juco football programs and attendance plus we will have more developed players in college football
I totally disagree. We already have 28-29 year old guys in cfb oh and by the way most of them are former PRO athletes in other sports. Plus it’s not like they are going to take over either how many players do you know that need 4 years of JUCO to secure 1 fbs offer that have wound up making a power 4 school. This rule also makes sense now that players are paid by schools why should their eligibility be taken away by the ncaa if they don’t attend an ncaa school?? I’ve been against a lot of the new rule changes for modern college football but this is a great rule. not necessarily because whats the actual percentage of dudes who get a second contract after their rookie deal? idk the answer but its not 100% i agree with the principle of what you’re saying but i believe their could be interest from front offices for some big, strong, mature & developed rookies
Well considering they don’t really develop their rookies anymore it makes sense to get as much playing experience as well as maturity before you go pro. NFL stands for not for long for a reason average nfl career is 3 years.
This is actually great for high school recruits and a lot of them are late bloomers and this will prepare them for next level college football and this might weed out the underachievers or the overated recruits that don't play out their full star rankings. 🤔
Bro for me this is amazing, as some who started playing football later during my high school years, I was Alr planning on going juco, but this just makes it better. 😎
Matt please run out with a team next year! I will pay for my pass too and run out with you. I'll wear the other teams attire, but I'm putting a Bama shirt on under it and once I get on the field I'm gonna have my Bama shirt on. I'm in Huntsville, so we can take the flight out together Haha. Maybe some other subscribers would want to do this too. It could make a great video!
I'm not upset about this. Any kid good enough to go pro will, only older kids will those who don't mind being a back up. Top high school will go to a major program, the rest get a chance to prove themselves
At this point the mess of transfer portals NIL deals has officially nullified the term student-athlete. The student portion is merely a tolerance and/or label now. If you wanna go pro so bad specifically in basketball then go play overseas. For the football brothers well yall know how that process works. Alls said to say football and basketball aren't going to carry you forever. And don't think that NIL money won't disappear as fast as you got it.
That’s the best rule ever! Because biologically, very few guys reach near their athlete peak at 18, for most people start at 21, it doesn’t mean they’re least talented; they just develop late; imo it’s not reliable to recruit 17 years old because the future of his career is unknown not just physically but mentally. If you ask anyone, he was mentally much weaker than he was 21
Gonna be interesting in a few years. My take is the top athletes will play 6 years and earn up to 20 million dollars and just not go pro. Some will because of the allure of money and fame, but some will realize they are multimillionaires at 23 24 years old and not have to put their body through the ringer for another 10+ years. The NFL product taking a hit will be what brings about the next change to all of this.
The Bitcoin NIL offer at 4:02 is smart because it's an investment that can grow. That's what I like about it, because it will help Tagoa'i and other players with money management in the future Also I don't think the JUCO to D1 pipeline will apply to many 4 and 5 star recruits. Just a select few of them, and the majority of players who will do that will be 3 star to unranked recruits

"Decent topic Matt", it can also be a great way that athlete's can get their school grades situated too. Meaning get the most difficult classes done if possible so when they get the chance to compete at a higher level it want be to much for them to handle. Just my opinion.
I will say it’s going to be a bad idea. These guys need to figure it out in the NFL, XFL, CFL or whatever journey life has for them once their eligibility is done with the NCAA. At this point let these kids go pro as soon as they earn a draft grade. They can go to war & vote but not be in the nfl until they’re 3 years removed from High school. 🤷🏾♂️
How long can people play pro football? As long as they want and a team wants them. "College" is now the exact same as pro. So I think at some point college football will allow players to play the same as the NFL. As long as a team wants them.tney can play. 5 years. 10 years. 15 years. Why not? They are PAID. It is PROFESSIONAL football.
JUCO already is and has been a “ Farm league “ for major universities! I know down here in Texas that atm Maggie’s subsidize players from local Blinn college!
Mark, seems like rule changes in most sports have been deteriorating the games. Most of the f the changes don’t seem to be for the best. In football, changing the clock rules, penalty for targeting is to severe, NIL with no cap, and now this. I think the trickle down will discourage some of the youth. The NFL will still covet youth over a 26 yr old rookie. I just wish they would quit tampering with rules. Thanks for your content
I disagree. JUCO doesn’t have the resources to offer serious NIL money to high schoolers. Why would a top recruit decide to go to JUCO then D1, if they can make hundreds of thousands right after high school? It’s not like the top recruits come from JUCO to begin with. The NCAA already allows for graduate transfers and gave that Oklahoma State quarterback 7 years of eligibility. Also don’t forget that NIL money already incentivizes college football players to stay more years since they can make more from NIL than a NFL rookie contract. The NCAA and NJCAA are different organizations so big deal JUCO gets a few more years of eligibility. It’s not like they will be more athletic than incoming recruits 😂. There’s a reason they stayed playing college ball so long.

I wonder if the JuCo rule has anything to do with the NCAA dropping roster spots down to 105 players per team.
You would have to buy a custom jersey saying “lil bro” on the back and have the jersey # be “4” for how many times they lost to Michigan.
I don’t want to watch grand pa playing collage football. They are doing all they can to destroy our favorite game.
