    Just want to say THANK YOU for this video. I spent ALL DAY trying to figure out an electrical actuator I removed from my truck and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. I watched your video and realized I didn't re-install the brushes into their pockets and now the motor is working 100% and you saved me $1200.

    That was a pretty decent explanation for the layperson. Ty

    OK so I've a stuck brush I assume the armature is also damaged. Your video is very helpful. You are a king of RUclips 🤣

    Great explanation. I have an old B&D Grinder that suddenly started buzzing and got stuck. When its off it rotates but when I turn it on in magnetized and locks in place. I’ll try changing the brushes if I can find any.

    Thanks for the info. I have learned that the more I know, the less I pay and can do the job myself.

    Thanks, it's very hard to imagine this stuff from books, I have forgotten a lot of my college motor theory, keep up the good work! All the best

      Motor theory without experience is like reading a book on how to play baseball but never actually hitting a ball or throwing one. No substitue for experience. I read a book on how to play the guitar and found that after reading the book I was terrible at playing. A kid down the block never read one book yet plays guitar with ease.

    Question GFM Does the computator originally have a wide groove in it for the brushes or is it originally flat and the brushes wear into it?

    Great Video. I dont know why the world just throws thins away Please help with table saw motor RM827. Two of commutator bars are raised, thought maybe new brushes would fix it. If a resistance pattern to follow maybe i could do some solder trick. What Now?

    Just recently bought a set of Milwaukee tools with brushless motors. These brush motors have served me well for years but I like the fact that there's less moving parts/less heat, and my understanding is that they should have more life...and help conserve battery life.

    GREAT VIDEO - how can i tell if my brushes need replacing? i have one of these motors in my disabled scooter.

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  7 лет назад

      You will need to remove them to check. If they need replacing, the commutator should also be machined to make it smooth.

    The rubbing of the brush to the copper would create ultrafine particles the could get into the air and get inhaled into the lungs. Certainly not to healthy, especially if used in a fan that moves air. Are induction motors brushless?

      This unit uses ball bearings. One of them may have lost its balls. You can replace the bearings, either from the factory or from a bearing shop. Hope this helps.

    These motors also can run at very high speeds, tens of thousands of rpm for some types. A vacuum cleaner motor may spin 10,000 rpm, allowing a small fan to produce powerful suction. A router may run at 25,000 rpm no load speed. Can’t run that fast with induction motors that are limited to power line frequency, usually 1725 or 3450 rpm.
