This story really resonated with me. Imagine being a black kid in the 2000s who was into anime. People say things like “You like that Chinese stuff” or “You tryna be white or Asian”. I also unfortunately had paranoid southern Baptist evangelical Christian parents who found anime weird and banned me from watching it among other things like Harry Potter.
I can relate to parents banning Harry Potter, but they actually used to watch anime and introduced us to things like Studio Ghibli and Evangelion :)
