    I think certain shapes work better for vert, bowl, transition etc and some work better for street but it is preference, whatever makes you feel more confident and comfortable.

    I love popsicles but im skating a welcome bunyip rn the nose is small and round and the tail is fat and square. It really took some getting use to but it's alot of fun and challenging. And i really feel it will make you a better skater skating shaped boards. Not like it will magically make you tre double but it will help you understand tricks better and how to make them work on different shaped boards. And in the end why the fuck not, after all skating is about having fun.

      ditched my popsicle 2 years ago. skated welcome 8.8s for a year and just got an 8.275 shaped board for a while now and yea you are probably right. they take some getting used to but after that theyre way more fun and stable at high speeds but you can still do anything you could do on a normal board. mine were shaped similar to this guys tho. gonna try and get a random shape from welcome skateboards they have this deal for 35 bucks you pick the size they pick the shape. i dont think ill ever go back to popsicles.. at least for a while

    • @soydave1988
      @soydave1988 6 лет назад +6

      Yeah I see that. I have my regular setup as well as an 8.7" Welcome cruiser setup and I personally can skate it almost exactly as my regular setup. I love both boards for different reasons. When I switch back to my regular setup I suppose tricks are a little "easier". I'm a believer that you can get used to pretty much any setup, and pretty much everything about any setup is personal preference

    by any chance do you have an old set of trucks you don't skate anymore that you could away?

  • @tomjbeckham750
    @tomjbeckham750 5 лет назад

    To accurately compare these you should be using 2 brand new boards, and the same trucks, wheels and bearings on each board. Also you should skate one board for a day, and the other the next day, as well as skating the same spots both days. It might take longer to film and edit but the resolults will be on point.

    Personally I find it that you try harder when you skate a shaped board because it's so different and with the normal board you are used to the shape and too comfortable in a way.
    I guess the more you skate shaped boards the more that thing wears away but that's how I feel like it is when I have skated them.

    Skateboarding has a lot to do with how you feel, so just by having a shaped board(something different than a Popsicle deck) can mentally make the skateboarder either feel like he's 10times better, the same or even worse. Just like having new deck/shoes can when skating. Idk if that makes sense hopefully you get it...

      I'm digging Mike Vallelys Street Plant boards but also like some of the Dog Town reissue shapes . The one in this vid looks cool but I really like a board around 32×8.5 or 9 inches cause I'm 6ft3 got big feet also got dad gut😂 another good reason to skate, get in shape.

    I grew up with the shaped boards as they morphed into the popsicle boards we all see today. Judging by what you threw down in the video with the shaped board the only thing that really matters is good grip, concave, and a decent nose and tail. Would love to see you try and rip a deck from the 80s! I know Powell and Vision were throwing out some old school shapes, maybe even Santa Cruz, now that would be epic to see you ride one of those decks (thinking a Vision Gator or Gonz deck). Now that would be a video to watch!

    Hey Dale,
    first I love your videos and since i discovered your channel I´m watching them right after I wake up. This was the first video i´ve seen with hardcore/punk music in it, so I just thought I´d give it a try and ask if you maybe wanted to use some of my bands music in one of your videos. We just released our first demos, the name of the band is Captain Asshole. We´ve got a video on youtube and 2 songs on bandcamp.
    Much love and greetings from Germany
    Theo

    ive noticed a subtle difference in my ollies with shaped boards because the extra little primo stall concave part , when i do the slide part of the ollie the board i noticed hooks on to my feet way easier there for my olllies feel effrotless. with the traditional , i do have to be a little more consciously aware if my feet what i need it to do. in conclusion i enjoy both but love shaped boards atm soo much.

    I got a shaped board thinking it would be fun and no different, but it ended up bugging me. I think it was all physiological, but I went back to Popsicle after that.

      Uncle Bernard so if I gave you a board with no nose or tail that sloped up, you'd be cool with it? Hah

    My opinion on shape, quoting Bruce Lee. "Before I studied the art, a punch to me was just like a punch, a kick just like a kick. After I learned the art, a punch was no longer a punch, a kick no longer a kick. Now that I've understood the art, a punch is just like a punch, a kick just like a kick. The height of cultivation is really nothing special". So shape is just shape, then shape becomes much more and means something. And finally shape is just shape again and dosent matter much other than preference. Its the process of learning, understanding and gaining skill thats going to matter most, hi ya 👊😊

    Shaped boards just look fuckin' weird and gimmicky.

    Popsicle boards may be ‘functional’ but so fucking boring...kinda like skaters who are all about technicality and have zero style or soul... bring back the 80’s!!...

    i prefer a shaped board but im an old schooler,my first board was flat.
    i ride a Black Label Navarette guest model on street and a Z-flex master crafted Eric Dressen in the pool. They're both really sick.
    Its all personal preference think a persons style has alot to do with it. Popsicles seem to be better for more techy tricks.
