My local tie dye shop usually crumple bleaches black shirts then over dyes the color (shows in the negative spaces) for a similar effect. My fav. shirt is crumple bleached / spiral dyed
You need to leave it soaking in water n soda ash.. that makes it brighter! And probably use good quality ink or neon! But soda ash does the trick for me! Using crappy tullip ink!

Shirt has to be soaked in soda ash first, then dye dry or spun dry.

If you use Soda ash, you have to wait 24 hours. If you use Waterglass, you need 2-3 hours to wait.
