Perfect timing. The headliner on my '95 ZJ is hanging way down and needs replaced or just removed. Not a bad idea just leaving it off until i get done with light bar and little lights at the corners of my cargo rack. Thanks for posting.
Last week I got fed up with my ZJ's busted-up headliner dropping sticky brown turds everywhere so I ripped all the fabric off and went after the foam with a nylon brush, vacuum, and N95 because that stuff was nasty. After about 90 mins almost every trace of foam and glue was gone. The bare headliner board is ugly as hell but if you squint it looks like crappy desert camo 😆 Maybe I'll get tired of looking at it eventually and put in the effort to pull the board and cover it with some new fabric, but I only drive the ZJ once or twice a week so I might just leave it as is.
Yeah that foam is so nasty. I was going to paint the board but I actually really like the way the bare metal looks like. Reminds me of an old Wagoneer. Thanks for watching
Wow, that HL looked in great shape. Wish mine was still without rotted frayed fabric, then I'd just use some 3M fabric spray and some squeegee's to smooth out the wrinkles. But mine too far gone to save.
May be obvious to most, but on those seatbelt posts, adjust them into the down (short people) mode first. Will give you more room to move the post plastic.
Absolutely, thanks for posting this. Exact same issue with my '99. Seems the glue is failing for a lot of them around the same # of years, +/- 4yrs lol. If you haven't already, change out your fuse lights (cargo area) with LED ones - the light you will get is WICKED. If you need the item #, reply back and I'll dig it up. Changed all of them in my '96 and '99 (not the same...)
I love it raw! If mine didn't have a sunroof I would leave it like that. But now that I have to replace the tubes amd they need to be covered as it woukd be an eye sore can you scrape off the headliner foam and spray paint it and put it back? Also the two clips in the back have to be replaced right? I have a 2001 grand jeep and I have to change the tubes to my moon roof so since I have to have access the hoses I might as well get rid of that cloth overhead too!!
Thanks for the information. About to do the same on mine. The foam is falling apart in dust and making my allergies act up. Made driving this thing miserable
I have a 97 GC Laredo that im about 2do the same & replace the stereo system as well.. Could you plz tell me which make & model car stereo fit your Jeep ??
I want to just pull mine off and keep the bare metal. I pulled the fabric off a while back now it's just the adhesive and it looks like crap and if you touch it it flakes off and falls on your head. Mine has the sunroof and the sunroof is currently leaking. But the last time I opened it it had a hard time shutting with this process work the same for the sunroof models?
Thanks for this video!! I have a question, can you tell me what the size dimensions are on the headliner? I’m wanting to take mine off as well and replace the old with a new fabric and want to ensure I purchase enough.
I'm redoing my 94. It looks just like yours, but your interior is mint compared to mine... 😢 I'm scraping off old foam, then priming with kilz. Then, putting new fabric with 3m spray adhesive. I'm not sure if it'll work, but bare metal would drive me nuts as there's no sound barrier. I, too, removed my carpet in the back and replaced it with a wood floor. Looks good, but I need to add soundproofing because now I can hear all kinds of rattles and squeeks... always a work in progress, but worth it! Thank you for the video, I couldn't figure out the overhead light canopy.... bout to take a hammer to it! 😅 Q-ball

I thought of doing that but I like the look without it. Reminds me of my old trucks I drove back in the day...
Thanks man… alway wondered what’s underneath.. cool video great tips🤙🏻
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching

The foam was on the cloth and released as foam rotted leaving what’s left of it on the hard shell Cool video

I hope it can help someone...

Just lost my f150… traded “bubba” for a beater 96 Laredo and there’s no headliner once so ever 😂
Saved you the trouble...

Not sure. I never owned a ZJ with a sunroof.
Mine looks awesome with the bare metal.

I can measure it when I get home and let you know...
@@spookyjeep7563 I would greatly it!
@@leanavision4738 roughly measuring mine is 7.5 feet by 4.5 feet
How long did this take
I took off the screw of the center piece and pushed it as far back as I could but I still couldn't remove the piece. Is there another trick to it?
It's on a track. You can pull it gently and it will come off.
Best of luck. Let me know if it works out...
Push it to the front, towards the windshield. Pushing back won't detach.
