That sidewall cut is massive! Few people would've known how to boot that sucker, much less persevere through all the other flats. Thomas has got to be the toughest rider I know. "You're an icon, brother."
This is one of the best 12 minute videos I've watched. You've managed to fit a lot of content and it seems a lot longer than it was, and you weren't overt with the advertising. Very well done, A+
Hi guys, Such an amazing effort by Thomas on one of the hardest courses ever. I work for the Australian distributor of Jamis and it made me really proud to see these legends at work. I'll be buying my 2021 Renegade C2 as soon as we get them. Can't wait!!!
In Baja,on dirtbikes we "double tubed" our tires. Meaning to cut a section out of the innermost area of tube all the way around, and fit another tube in it to avoid pinch flats. And helps with punctures some. Might be heavier but flats kill a bicycle racer.
brad sanders I’ve done that trick before on the bicycle for freshly cut trails where thorns are an issue.......before everything went tubeless. Unfortunately I don’t think this technique would work for tubeless setups. But good thinking.
Loved the piece. I did my first gravel ride (Mt Lemmon grinder), this past Nov on a stock Renegade (tubeless), and it was flawless. Me, well... I can improve!
Great video. Thomas seems like a gentleman racer with a very competitive edge... and a magnificent beard. I realise how important tires are and would drive you crazy trying to best guess what you should ride with. Thanks Jamis, thanks Thomas.
Great race effort and great video - thanks for sharing! Maybe I'll see you there in 2021? I was in the DK100 in 2019 and in this video ~ yellow t-shirt far left at 3:49-3:53

Great video and congrats on the very respectable time! I also love the Renegade! The 631 Reynolds is my favorite frame, but the carbon is a close second. Both ride fantastic.
monzadh haha, if it hadn’t been for the Silk Shield in my Maxxis Ramblers it would have been game over. At least with the tougher sidewalls I was able to ride it out! Sucker held together for 170 miles! That’s durability!
Bring lots of tubes? Don’t most people ride tubeless nowadays? My wife’s Jamis Renagade came with them stock. I even use them on my road bikes when possible. Or are they blowing out tubeless tires casings so much you end up running tubes in them? Watching the video it seems that an extra tire or two would be a good idea.
Most start out with tubeless but when they are not repairable with sealant or a plug you have to end up putting a tube in it. I was surprised they didn't have a spare wheelset at the aid station.
@@edrcozonoking I thought the same thing. I checked the rules, you can swap anything other than the frame itself. So why not just swap wheels? Kinda weird considering his support crew was a bike rep.
Good video! The heat got me. I called it at the 99.50-mile water stop. I'd done the DK100 successfully the year before, but I wasn't ready for the DK200. I'll try again someday.
Nice recap! If he runs a neon jersey he will stay cooler and also easier for support to spot him. Shave the beard for a 30minute faster time as you are more aero and stay way way cooler in the Kansas summer heat. Run 46/30 gear combo for even better cadence up the climbs.
gamby16a yeah you can. I didn’t want to have to fool with adjusting the caliper plus if the tire was working I figured I’d keep the spare saved for when this one really went out. But it didn’t and it held for 170 miles!
It went together easily in less than an hour. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
His saddle looks too high in the race and if he got 10 flats, that'd tell me those tyres are too narrow. With a saddle too high, your also more prone to pinch flats because you won't be lifting your weight off the seat enough to float over the rough stuff.

This guy rocks. Jamis, you nailed it with, Thomas. He's the real deal.
Great job. My carbon Renegade has been through 3 Dirty Kanza events. I so love that bike!!!!

Why not the Renegade C2 2020?
Digging the paint scheme and spokes on that bike. Very nice and great video edit.
My 2012 Ventura Race is still kicking ass. Jamis is a great bike line. Very underrated.

Great ride!
Amazing production quality for 4k subs. Keep it up!

How the fuck do you have only 4k subs. God tier production quality, amazing effort. You're a legend

If you wet your beard, it will become a cooling radiator 😆
Peter Bayliss haha, don’t think that hasn’t been done!!
Great job! Love the beard!!
would hate it in temperatures like that
Try running shorter cranks, 165. Make sure your seat is not too high. 46/30 front chainrings and a big cassette to spin up the climbs.
great video and ride. What were those tires so I can avoid them!

What is the max system weight for that bike (rider + cargo) ?
Hello and thank you for your interest in our Jamis Renegade. The max weight limit throughout all the models in our Renegade Series is 250lbs.

Was he not allowed to swap out to a fresh wheel/tire at an aid station?
You're allowed to, if you have it available.

Stainless steel Renegade when? 🫶
So would the renegade make for a good fast road bike as well?
J-sun Martinez yeah I used mine all the time for that. Slap some skinnies in her and she’s good to go!

How you can possibly ride with that long beard? Isn't that increasing your body temperature? ..........
