Most of the older people that are in NJ are from the south. My parents are from SC and AL. They both can cook really GOOD!

True both my parents were from 2 different states in the south but they birth and raised me any siblings in Jersey. We were the only ones, then more of my family from the south came up north.

Y'all kill me with the North Can't cook when all our grannies are from the south, and that's how we learned to cook. Plus, one restaurant in Newark don't represent all Northern soul food. Just like them, nasty restaurants in the south didn't represent all southern food.

You can’t say everybody from the north that’s how we cook collard green no, I’m from the north I come for Massachusetts I cook my collar green with all types of smoked meat, smoke neckbones, smoked turkey, wings sometime ham hocks. I love , greens, follow meet, and my whole family come from the south my mother come from Mississippi, but I was born and raised in the north. I went down to South Carolina with my husband where his friend and went to one of their restaurant and I was terrible. I wish you can taste my cooking. I’m just saying

I agree and the southern reviews aren't always hitting. I think most soulfood restaurants take shortcuts these days. The best soulfood comes from your own kitchen.

The people from the North are mainly from the south. The difference is they stick to grandmas recipes because that’s the memories when it comes to soul food. It’s not everyday they eat soul food because of all the other options. In the south…where I am now….I have yet to find any good soul food. Instead of sticking to their ancestors recipes, they try to revamp or elevate it because they don’t have a lot of options. I can’t even find pig feet in the southern grocery stores anymore. Chicken wings are hella expensive and everybody only wanna cook wing flings. I can’t find turkey wings, neck bones, slab bacon. Sage sausage.

If you’re in NJ, please come through. Vonda’s food is delicious, fresh, well seasoned, and made with love. The constant comparison to “the south” is unnecessary. Greens don’t have to be cooked to death and drowning in meat grease to be good. There is a snarky attitude even before the first bite that makes these reviews feel shady. Visit Vonda’s. It’s an award winning restaurant beloved by a lot of us and y’all will not be disappointed.

I've ordered delivery from this place before back when everything was locked down. The food and portions were decent, but I felt like it was overpriced for the quality. I might have to try that meatloaf though. Not something I would usually think to order.

No Darius, a lot of our cooking came from the south. Our grandmother's and mother's were from the south........Not sure how old Vonda is but, the younger generation seems to do things different......No disrespect but I wasn't too fond of Vonda's myself.......I know good southern cooking and Vonda's aint it......I'm not phased by these so called Soul food restaurants because I know they are not the truth......I've been recently going to Mama's in Linden NJ.......Mama is born and raised in Alabama and her food is close to my southern GM food......Mama is a sweet women and you'll get a history class from her to.

Lots of diabetes and Hypertension in the South people getting feet legs cut off and having strokes and are on Dialysis. Dialysis centers are the biggest growing companies in the us people buy stock in the companies getting rich while we are sick and dying. That food is a killer down South. The root of it is in slavery so are ancestors did not eat well they did not have a choice. I guess you can eat it sometimes, but it usually has too much salt and sugar and dairy. In Africa they do not eat food with loads of sugar and salt and the food is delicious. Can you look for some good vegan restaurants or give us some good vegan recipes it would be interesting. In fact, black people are the fastest growing demographic of vegans they don't want to keep getting sick and dying from what we call soul food.

Maybe you were tired, but that's no excuse. We are interested in your food reviews, so please do not start slacking in your positive energy.
You should go back, and do one at Vonda's Kitchen when you are more up to feeling like doing a food review.
I hope you can go to Lindenwood Diner in Brooklyn NY one day and do a Food Review. Now, do not go there with no boring energy. You may get thrown out of the restaurant, LOL I am just kidding.
