i need more ppl to start talking about steve's uptilt upsmash. I've been getting tight about this confirm for literal months and I see no one else even mention it 💀 uptilt being as good as it is and then leading into an upsmash that strong so nicely, and it working on so many characters is crazy man. that confirm works super well already on tall characters like sephiroth and I thought it was mostly powerful against characters tall like that, but even on smaller ones likw G&W its super solid.
I love the whiplash Ultimate players have. Same thing happened with ShinyMark vs Sonix and ShinyMark vs Peach when they realized Pikachu is _also_ just a hyper-defensive camper with free punish Acola-Spargo: "set of the year, so much unexplored territory, I love this game there's so much more Ultimate to be played. ❤😊" Miya-Acola: "this is lamer than anything I've ever seen, waste of time to watch this boring set of boring players abusing their poorly-developed, boring top tiers" Eventually people will realize that the top 10-20 characters are effectively a hellish mix of camping, free reversals, and guaranteed kills because that's what the game rewards.
I thought this tournament was interesting it was different from what I expected I thought acola was gonna win again I guess I’m wrong. Perhaps those upsets that Miya experienced in previous tournaments gave him motivation to one up his rival when they finally meet and sure enough he did. The best set was Acola and Spargo cause acola finally got him after all those years of losing to him multiple times in a row which made me want to watch the tournament cause at least it’s a different result even though people prefer spargo to win I was bored of acola always losing to him so it was a nice change of pace when spargo lost cause it means the game can continue to grow when it’s the same result every time the game gets stale.
I wonder if Sparg0 would have beaten Miya on Grand Finals. Even with the record in Spargo's favor, Miya had two sets to beat Sparg0's Cloud. Congratulations for all the players in top 8.

Miya dies in two interactions pretty consistently throughout this set. His only chance is to overwhelm acola with so much offense that he never gets a chance to play the game. But when you're dealing with acola playing so confident that he can dodge everything to steal the kill (like at 5:59 or 12:46), and when he's surviving on every single stock to 150% at least, it's no wonder Miya struggled so much. I don't think I've ever seen acola play this hot before. The fact that Miya won despite all that is insane.

Reading the comments pretty much shows why NA is falling off so hard compared to Japan. Y'all only like the idea of Ultimate, not the actual optimaly played game that has defensive behavior first and offense second in it's DNA ever since Brawl. Characters like G&W, Steve and Sonic thrive in these games because they have a great risk reward trade against the entire cast, something that is incredibly good in games which do not have big punish game like Brawl, Sm4sh and Ult. The set was tight and scrappy as hell from both players but if this is still "killing the game" then i'd like to advice you to stop watching. I personally do not enjoy the post fighter pass 2 meta and only sometimes take a peek inside, yet all i ever see is how miserable and pathetic y'all are compared to the average Melee stream that i usually watch. Try getting used to the game cause it'll stay like that for a while before you abandon the next so called "best Smash game".

They lab the hell out of the game and perfect their play, yes, but they don’t expect everything good to come to them. They earn their way through months of training and practice while staying extremely level-headed and passionate about the game. I’m sure acola was slightly bummed about not winning the whole thing, but he celebrated his 2nd place, overcame his bracket demon after tons of practice with his Aegis, and kept his head held high the entire time. North America needs to take some damn notes, because if acola isn’t an absolute trooper, nobody is.

I really don't get how you don't think this is hype, tbh. They're constantly interacting, it's fast-paced and exciting, I thought that's what people like. The Japanese comment section is very positive if the translator feature is accurate.

They lab the hell out of the game and perfect their play, yes, but they don’t expect everything good to come to them. They earn their way through months of training and practice while staying extremely level-headed and passionate about the game. I’m sure acola was slightly bummed about not winning the whole thing, but he celebrated his 2nd place, overcame his bracket demon after tons of practice with his Aegis, and kept his head held high the entire time. North America needs to take some damn notes, because if acola isn’t an absolute trooper, nobody is.
I mean he still 3-0 Miya quite convincingly in the first set. I think he really wanted to win it all too.
Honestly his win over Spargo was more rewarding than if he won grands. Him and Miya go back and forth it seems.
