I work with cars, all the fobs will work with a dead battery if you push the start button with the fob, I don't know if bikes have a similar hack, might be worth looking into
Your Ducati will definitely not leave you stranded! Just set your pin and you can start with the pin and nothing else. The only thing you need the key for is to unlock your fuel tank.
I picked up a 2000 M750 for $450. Picked up new piston rings for $60 and a new gasket kit. $119. No immobilizer. Carb. It's fun. I put knobby Scout K60s on there and urban enduro'd it out. Seattle to the ocean to summits! LED grilled out and new resistors for the LED integrated tail kit and a bunch of other mods... Everything under $2K and I learned how to do everything with my library card cuz our downtown library has every motorcycle manual for restoration, service, and maintenance on the shelf. Only thing is my tank is still dented from the last owner but RUclips is teaching me that I think I can probably pop out the dents on the steel tank and do a badass paint job on my own. Cheers!
I tried that pin shit on my Harley. Never got it to work. I was probably doing it wrong, or didn’t have it set up, but still. At least it was only in my driveway.
Not sure about that model but my Duc has a regular immobilizer that has an override code you can program in just incase the responder in the key stops working or the like, it will allow to start with the regular part of the key and entering the code pin on each start until fixed.
I used to drop my key a lot, now I have a clip for it so I can't lose it, I bought a lithium battery this summer, it's pretty good and it's super small, it has a button in it that tells u how much of a charge it has
I mean even if he WAS talking shit, nothing wrong with being unbiased enough to talk shit about the bad points of something you own. Fanboy mentality is a garbage way to live.
FYI: you do not need the fob. It has a 4 digit override code. I suggest setting that up ASAP. You do however need the key to add gas. Call your dealer if you do not know how to set it up.
It's called a "key fob" because it's attached to the key! Have a hi viz one on the other bike so if it drops out of your pocket, you can find it. Better yet, make a dupe key and slip it in an inside pocket, or hidden on the frame in a magnetic box.
You have PowerCommander and Lithium battery with your small bike. I have those with my heavy cruiser. Both helped, starting and getting more power out from V2.
On bikes it is super easy to start without a key, pull the plug that goes to the key hole. Then use a kick starter, or roll start it. Lost my key once, got me home but keep in mind you won't have lights
Harleys have a pin code that be used if the fob isn't available. You might want to check into that in your manual. You probably have to do some unusual sequence of button pushes to get into menu. One of my Ducs left me stranded in BFE West Virginia because the fuel gauge stuck. Luckily, I wasn't too far from the bear hunter's campground. Another one left me stranded in a lightning storm not long after I purchased it. It's rectifier/regulator electrical connector wasn't properly snapped together at the factory. I was on the side of the interstate and no cars would stop. Fortunately, a big, bearded Harley dood came by and gave me a ride to a gas station where I made a call to get it towed. I wouldn't stray too far from home if such things cause you such distress.
None of my bikes have any electronics (except for the CDI) and all use keys. I carry a spare key hidden on all 4 bikes. I also carry a cell phone (a flip phone, not a smart phone, I'm just not into modern technology) and a cheap handheld Garmin Etrex GPS I bought over 10 years ago. It will give you your exact coordinates. I also have a road service plan with 100 miles of towing. I can power both the cell phone and GPS from the bikes battery if necessary. I also carry a small pocket sized power pack/jump start pack capable of starting my 1997 Superglide. Two of my bikes have tube type tires, and while they both have centerstands, I am no longer sure of my ability to repair a flat tire on the side of the road. When riding alone I tend to stay within 100 miles of home, or a couple of other places where I could safely have the bikes hauled too and leave them there till I could pick them up. I was never a boy scout (though I am a former Marine) and I believe in being prepared from everything within reason. I would get rid of that CBR, and get a Suzuki DRZ400SM supermoto. They handle great, and are still way more comfortable than a supersport. They will easily go fast enough to cause you to lose your license.
I leave my key in my riding jacket... And i always wear my jacket. I also keep spare batteries for it in my jacket. Side note.... there is a PIN system that takes seconds to set up to start the bike in case of losing the key or battery death
Good thing Ducati has a personalised code you can enter without having a key! Also if you are in an area that has alot of Wi-Fi usage like Biolife plasma donation buildings you'll have to hold your key fob near the dash.
You'd really rather someone STEAL YOUR BIKE over just losing you keys? Believe me, calling a ride is much better than calling your insurance and calling a ride. You've got a strange frame of mind cruza.
I keep 3 ignition keys with me. One single key for the ignition that when i get off the bike i slip it into my right rear pants pocket. I keep a key chain with one ignition key and a key to my top case in my left front pocket. Then i have a 3rd key chain with my house keys one ignition key and a top case key that i keep in the top case. I dropped an ignition key one night when i was getting on the bike. It fell but i didn't hear it hit the concrete. So i took out my spare got home and the next day found the dropped key in a wiring harness just above the engine of the bike...
No, on my Harley anyhow I have a pin code I type in if I loose my key fob and it starts right up. I am sure Ducati has a similar system. Look in your owners manual.
Did you know you can add a pin code to your bike and turn it on without the key fob? Maybe you don't have the code because u bought an used bike. You just have to rotate the switch below the screen and it will ask you for the key code.
I thought you had to be close to your bike in order for the keyfob to work. Like my car, if i leave my fob in the house and i go out to the garage to start it nothing will happen. If i leave my fob in the car and i get out to lock it, it wont lock.
I keep that key fob on main key ring with the rest of my keys so there is no leaving the house without it. On the way out you have to lock your house so you have the key fob as well. It might work for some folks.
If you didn't get the PIN code from the person you bought your bike from, you better pick up the phone and call them. If you ever lose your key you'll have to pay some serious money to get everything reset by a dealer. Keys cost over $200, not including programming time.
How many fobs does the manufacturer commonly provide? Does the trunk have a key? If you load a spare fob with a battery, could you wrap it in aluminum foil to make a faraday cage? Then you'd be sort of ready to go in a panic. Or here is a really kooky idea. Cut a slit under your compartment with the end of a metallic roll juuuust protruding through. Take your glove off, find the edge and pull it to unroll the spitted fob on its spindle. Now you can leave though you forgot your compt. key.
I think the push start on cars and motorcycles is pretty stupid I got to ask you a question what happens if the push start button actually goes out on the motorcycle or car how the hell do you start your motorcycle or car my car has that stupid push start button I hate it
Love the vids. Very informative. I had to laugh at the beginning when you said if you rode the Diavel to the store without the fob, and it wouldn't start again, you would "have to have it towed"? I'm sure you meant: "I would have to get someone to take me home, get the fob, then come back to pick it up." It might be too cold to think clearly up there. Keep the rubber side down.
How do you feel about power in 6th gear? I like to have my engine not revving up really high to save wear and tear and get better mileage. I heard that at 3500 rpm and 60 mph the engine is really chugging. It seems you would have to be going 75 or more to use 6th gear practically. What are your thoughts?
Get a Lithium battery for the Double RR....I just replaced the OEM battery, one of many of the "best mods" I've done for her. Was replacing my batteries annually on my Gixxer before deciding to replace with a Shorai. It's more expensive than the regular BUT starts everytime without fail. So when the double RR, went out....replacement was going to be a lithium. Now both bikes start without any issues.... Suggestion: keep a spare key in your wallet, just in case!!!!
Hey CC, 2008 600rr or 2009 or 2011? Im looking at three that are under 11k miles and around the same price range... idk the difference. the 2011 only has 6.5k, completely and is owned by an older adult.
A little research should be done. You can start the bike but unless the fob is on you it will not go far. A little prevention from theft. Also is there not a key ignition on that bike? Harleys with similar system do.
We were doing some canyon riding and our harley guy and another dude wanted to trade bikes for a while. We all rode off got to the top of the mountain and realized our guy on the Harley wasn't there. We were all worried that he ate shit on the twisties so we went back down, looking over the cliffs the whole time. When we got to the bottom he was sitting right there, never left. We all rode off and the owner of the bike was too far away and had the key fob on him, so the guy he traded bikes with couldn't start the Harley haha. It's one of those things that are cool when they work but if they don't, there's not really much you can do.
You do realize you can start that Ducati with out the key. All Ducati sold for the last 5+ years can be started with out the key. You turn the bike on with the button and enter a pin code you create to start and unlock the bike. If you get a keyless gas cap you never need to take the key with you.
Don’t get me wrong Diavel is one sexy bike I would buy one if I had a money but Ducati doesn’t have a reputation for being reliable what makes this one different how was it more reliable than others
My V Rod has a way to enter your custom passcode to start the bike if you lose the fob (or its damaged ect), so you can't get stranded.... so the system on my V Rod won't leave you stranded .
Well you custom code is set by owner so make it something you don't forget and practice using it every month or so .and sure you can write it some place. I like your bike it's cool for sure and I can tell you are loving it. I'm like with my V Rod. Enjoy. Thanks for the videos I enjoy them.
Lol... would rather have the bike stolen than be stranded because of a lost key... would not a stolen bike leave you stranded? At least a bike with a lost key can be towed home & a replacement key be procured (I know my '16 blade came with two keys, perhaps you have a spare at home?)... a stolen bike is just gone, with little chance of you ever getting it back... ..
Carry a spare key in your wallet or a different keychain. That way when the cop pulls you over and throws your key into the weeds ‘cause he’s pissed you were going triple digits, you can still start it.
I carry a spare key in my wallet, had 3 extra ones cut, cause I lost my only key once and it's expensive to have 1 recut from the ignition switch and I also keep a visible keyring on the 1 I use incase I drop it
I was stranded in California for an hour and a half because I couldn’t find my key. Though I dropped it at the beach. Turns out I left it under the tail in my rear seat lock
Hi, can you please tell me where did you get the Hi Viz Green Camo Pants that you wear in this video? i can oly find the yellow and white on your website. thanks

Hi CycleCruza ! I have a question for you:What do you think about the unlimited speed on some parts of the German highways?Because on some highways in germany it is legal to drive 200m/h+ so what is your opinion of it? Greets Anton (a Belgian fan)
$2,800 for an aftermarket exhaust is FUCKING INSANITY, even if you were crazy rich, and what's up with the ripsaw😂 fairings why advertise, just go red white and true blue,✌

If you lose your fob/battery dies, Harley has a pin you can enter to start the bike, Im sure ducati has something similar
It does. I own the same bike. He needs to set it up.
He needs to change the stock code otherwise anyone can start the bike
Sure does
I tried that pin shit on my Harley.
Never got it to work. I was probably doing it wrong, or didn’t have it set up, but still.
At least it was only in my driveway.
My Multistrada has a pin code to start without the remote. Doesn’t the Diavel have the same thing?

Talks shit before watching the video.
DUCATI and STRANDED in all caps of title sounds like talking shit to me too, but I'm one of those strange people who thinks words are powerful.
CycleCruza he he he
Hey Cruza.... my HD has a fob but I can also punch in a code using turn signal buttons if I leave the fob behind or lose it . Saved me twice already.

I just press the button under the headstock and type in the pin no on my diavel carbon does the x diavel not have this function .?
I always keep a spare key (with code tag) in one of the pockets of my riding jacket. It's saved me a couple of times.

Side note.... there is a PIN system that takes seconds to set up to start the bike in case of losing the key or battery death
yeah I learned of that after thus video. However, I had to have my code reset at the dealer.
Good thing Ducati has a personalised code you can enter without having a key! Also if you are in an area that has alot of Wi-Fi usage like Biolife plasma donation buildings you'll have to hold your key fob near the dash.
Hadley has a 5 digit code you can put in if you forget your fob....smart
Dude, winter time sucks where you are. Good luck!
You'd really rather someone STEAL YOUR BIKE over just losing you keys? Believe me, calling a ride is much better than calling your insurance and calling a ride. You've got a strange frame of mind cruza.
I think you should consider a small thumbnail flyscreen type windshield for the Ducati. It’s amazing how much wind protection they provide.
William Eudy he feels "zero" wind on a naked bike. Just ask him. I call bs 😂😂😂
On Harley Davidson you can start the bike with a passcode if you happen to leave the key fob at home or battery dies.
Can't you start the diavel with a pin code and seperate startbutton like the multistrada??
YES
Lithium batteries are the way to go. I have one as my house battery in my van and it’s awesome. Spendy up front but well worth it.
awww c'mon homie . You cant show a clip of you losing your shit and crying about lost key and not put a link in the description!!! LINK IT
I did not cry. lol Just highly pissed at myself for not leaving the dang key in the ignition.
should have a hi-viz key tag which says Cycle Cruza attached to your key.
@cyclecruza but where's the link to the video
CycleCruza
Dude, that was funny as fuck.😆
Thanks for sharing and laughing about it.
We can all relate to that.
Chain a Hi-Viz tennisball to your key
I thought you had to be close to your bike in order for the keyfob to work. Like my car, if i leave my fob in the house and i go out to the garage to start it nothing will happen. If i leave my fob in the car and i get out to lock it, it wont lock.
Harley's have a back up code that u put through the controls so if ur key is lost or broken
BUMMER wanted that hi-vis Triumph jacket, been SOLD OUT with anything bigger than a medium since early summer that was a GOOD DEAL!!!!
Get the Waze GPS app for your phone as back up. Just in case you loose your keyfob
One more thing you get a access to enter the code by turning the switch that is hard to reach in front of the gas cap.
How about the pin code?what the use of it?
I keep that key fob on main key ring with the rest of my keys so there is no leaving the house without it. On the way out you have to lock your house so you have the key fob as well. It might work for some folks.
If you didn't get the PIN code from the person you bought your bike from, you better pick up the phone and call them. If you ever lose your key you'll have to pay some serious money to get everything reset by a dealer. Keys cost over $200, not including programming time.
I did it in my car once. The key light will flash and flash and flash! It will defintely let you know. You can always pull the key out of the fob man.
Font some bikes with keyless start have like a vutton code yo start it if you loose the keyfob or it dies
Now you can leave though you forgot your compt. key.
This made me have a flashback to when I was cleaning pools & lost the single truck key in the grass. The boss was pissed, worst day ever lol
I love how his cbrr 1000 is on a red pedistol looking all beautiful n spoiled but the rest of his bikes just sit in the back corner
I think the push start on cars and motorcycles is pretty stupid I got to ask you a question what happens if the push start button actually goes out on the motorcycle or car how the hell do you start your motorcycle or car my car has that stupid push start button I hate it
I have a key with a magnet super glued onto it stuck somewhere underneath my bike.
Can't remember where it is but it is there.......somewhere.....
LOL , yes loosing keys is a nightmare...glad you found them...it ... lol .
very insightive vlog.
all the bikes look awsome, gear too.
awsome vlog !
Your videos are the best cruza!!
CycleCruza has to be a real estate agent
no
Or a travel agent maybe...or a FBI/DEA agent. I think you got the 'agent' part right. : )
Shaneyeahboy he is trading cryptos , bitcoin , ethereum , xpr etc
Not to mention the 3rd way, EM interference. It can disrupt the fob talking to the bike and leave you stranded.
Don't know about the Duc. But I keep a spare on my key ring no matter what on me!
I don't know about the older harleys that the new ones have a code you can enter on the bike incase the battery goes dead or you lose the fob.
If you aren't gonna come out with your own key tag and use it, you can always get one from one of your favorite moto vloggers.
Suggestion: keep a spare key in your wallet, just in case!!!!
what is a power commander?
Hey CC, 2008 600rr or 2009 or 2011? Im looking at three that are under 11k miles and around the same price range... idk the difference. the 2011 only has 6.5k, completely and is owned by an older adult.
I have lost my keys to my bike before. Yep you end up freaking like a little girl until you find it
Harleys have a code backup if you lose your fob or the battery dies, i would imagine that would too. Im sure dealer can reset it for you.
I wanna see the full breakdown before you found the key lol
xion 1212 but it's still funny
Why don't you have the pin code for the bike?
You gotta say it right bro. Say "doo-kuh-ti" 😁 love the repsol fairings!
Can’t wait for that termignoni exhaust :p, hope it will come one day!
Cycle Cruz has got the Ducati fear in him.
Down here in Brazil, bikers used to have a paracord necklace with a Keychain. You left the bike, keys goes to your neck
Maybe replace the wr with a ktm 350 dual sport when the wr250 wears out
Harley has a code to allow you to start the bike if your battery fails or forget fob.
The Harley has a pin number you can enter if you lose/ forget the key fob...
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, we need that "Panic Mode" video when you lost the key
man, your garage is clean!!
My V Rod has a way to enter your custom passcode to start the bike if you lose the fob (or its damaged ect), so you can't get stranded.... so the system on my V Rod won't
leave you stranded .
cool, I'll have to check. Forget the code and you will be stranded. Probably best to keep the code in your wallet.
At least a bike with a lost key can be towed home & a replacement key be procured (I know my '16 blade came with two keys, perhaps you have a spare at home?)... a stolen bike is just gone, with little chance of you ever getting it back... ..
Right? What he said made zero sense...
If you didn't lock the forks ....it can be pushed.
Carry a spare key in your wallet or a different keychain.
That way when the cop pulls you over and throws your key into the weeds ‘cause he’s pissed you were going triple digits, you can still start it.
Totally agree Clinton, why would you ever rather have it stolen!?
FYI: YOU CAN ENTER A PIN CODE TO START THE BIKE! However, DON'T FORGET THE CODE!!! LoL! Keep the code in your wallet so you don't forget it!
Not tru Harley security has a pin that you can enter, then overrides the fob.
I keep my motor scooter key on my key ring. You’d be surprised how conscious you are of your keys when it’s all of your keys. 🛵💨
I carry a spare key in my wallet, had 3 extra ones cut, cause I lost my only key once and it's expensive to have 1 recut from the ignition switch and I also keep a visible keyring on the 1 I use incase I drop it
I don't really trust the electronics. Sooner or later they tend to flake out.
I was stranded in California for an hour and a half because I couldn’t find my key. Though I dropped it at the beach. Turns out I left it under the tail in my rear seat lock
Hi, can you please tell me where did you get the Hi Viz Green Camo Pants that you wear in this video? i can oly find the yellow and white on your website. thanks
I checked my website and the hi viz camo pants are listed, also in the description section of my new videos. Here is the link: cyclecruza.com/hivizcamo
you're a legend, Thanks :)
Ok got a laugh out of the high-vis comment 😂. Looking forward to more Duc vids.
Harley has a backup PIN in case you don't have the fob or dead battery. I bet Ducati has the same thing.
Hey man, that WR250R is lookin pretty nice dude
You dont need the fob you can start it with a code check your manual!!!
i seem to recall a vid of yours that was called "why i will never own a ducati"?
Hi CycleCruza !
I have a question for you:What do you think about the unlimited speed on some parts of the German highways?Because on some highways in germany it is legal to drive 200m/h+ so what is your opinion of it?
Greets Anton (a Belgian fan)
I know you get paid by advertisers but, you can get 2032 batteries at Dollar Tree , 2 for a buck.
$2,800 for an aftermarket exhaust is FUCKING INSANITY, even if you were crazy rich, and what's up with the ripsaw😂 fairings why advertise, just go red white and true blue,✌
