    debit card = if it is your money already that was in the bank. also known as savings account.
    credit card = you're borrowing money from the bank. this is usually with monthly limit.

    • @ivyjavier3234
      @ivyjavier3234 5 лет назад +6

      @@Niels-3 I'm pretty sure about the difference of debit and credit. What I think you're pertaining about transferring money from your bank is when you have a "prepaid debit card", not a "regular debit card". and about the credit card, I think you're talking about a DUO card, where it functions as debit and credit, as you say when you don't have enough funds, that'll be the time you'll borrow money.. Because applying for a credit card itself, is like applying for a loan.. the bank will give you a monthly credit limit, and you have to pay that amount that you applied for with interest.

    • @PongoXBongo
      @PongoXBongo 5 лет назад +3

      @@ivyjavier3234 Correct. Most "debit cards" are "check cards", meaning they function in much the same way as writing a check from your checking account. Savings accounts typically have no cards associated with them (hence "saving" not "spending").

  • @mydoggylives

    Basically... "debit" is amount owed and "credit" is amount received. So a debit card will actually take existing money from your account to pay for things. A credit card will give you that amount to pay for the item without removing money from your account. (You just have to pay it back at a later date.)

    • @Esulio
      @Esulio 5 лет назад +1

      thanks for the explanation, in France we only use one card (which we call credit card but it works like an American debit card) so I was confused.

    • @StalePhish
      @StalePhish 2 года назад

      @@Esulio What do you use in France if you need to buy something that costs more than you are willing to spend all at once? For example I just hired a company to replace my kitchen countertops for $3000 (2500€). But that is more than my paycheck, so used my credit card to not drain my bank account quickly. I paid $1500 this month and will pay $1519 next month.

    • @Esulio
      @Esulio 2 года назад

      @@StalePhishwe can pay little by little (usually over 3 months only, so the paiement is divided in 3 parts). so kinda like a credit, but we still use only one card.

    Honestly, more countries should adapt the QR code system. I've lived in China for about 3 years, never have cash on me, never bring my bank card, and you can still pay for everything. Even a small vendor with just a cart will accept wechat or alipay. Apple Pay is becoming more popular in the US, but is limited in its user base. WeChat itself is honestly the app of the future and I wish it was actually possible to use across the world.

    No one asked but wanna say that foreigners CAN use the qr code scanners in China. They mostly use wechat to pay and in wechat (a chatting service, much like line, but has all these extra functions), you can transfer money from one to another v easily. (And there's also this thing abt "snatching red packets"-literal translation) So if you have a chinese friend with an account, you can essentially pay them cash and have them transfer the money to your wechat account beforehand.

    One of the more interesting things about Spanish currency (euros), is that the coins are actually really worth something compared to American coins. For example, 1 euro and 2 euro are only coins. In America you have dollar coins but they are not very common most of the coins are essentially useless, where as here you use a lot of coins for small purchases (like coffee, churros, snacks). Therefore, if you lose your coins, you could easily have lost a lot of money. Also in smaller cities/towns, cards are harder to use (like here in Segovia) the minimum is kind of high and it's just all around easier to use cash. Great video~

    Dave! Correction from an expat office lad working in Shanghai. Foreigners can use QR codes and Alipay/WeChat Pay in China. The issues occur when you want to use Alipay/WeChat Pay outside of China. As a foreigner, they restrict your usage to only in China for some reason, despite the fact that you can freely use UnionPay (Chinese VISA/MasterCard) abroad at all locations that accept it.

    Also I was shocked when I realized this video was sponsored because for nearly everything else besides the end it was seamless and the video's main point was still put across without hindrance, and I think that's how sponsored videos should always go, to complete the task the video promised you with without hindrance besides a segmented portion that can be separated. So you can enjoy what you want.

    I lived in China for a year and I can confirm that the QR Code culture there is EVERYWHERE. It's like... insane. You, yourself, can even order your own QR Code to connect to the apps (typically WeChat Pay and/or AliPay) so you can immediately have people pay for whatever you're selling. (Yes, street food vendors have it and even random people walking around selling trinkets like balloons and small toys and stuff.) You also send money to your friends this way and it is just SO CONVENIENT. I miss it constantly.

      @@michaeljackson8950 What about the ones who aren't interested in English at all? It isn't my case, (I've been learning English for a while now, and I can express myself. It isn't perfect, though) but there are plenty of native Spanish speakers who don't need to learn English. Many of them are interested in French instead or even Japanese. And some others who do not need to know any other language than Spanish.
      You want to learn English? Great! I congratulate you, but not every person on Earth wants to. In this RUclips channel, Spanish subtitles have been present for many videos before. So he/she has the right to ask if there will be subtitles for this videos as well.

    A Dutchy here👋. Pretty much everyone uses a card here. Our equivalent of a debit card is a pin pas (pas means card). To use the card you need a pincode. Up until 24 euro you can use 'contactloos betalen' which means paying without contact. It basically means you don't need to type in a code and just hold the card against the machine. Creditcard aren't used that much except maybe if you buy something online because it comes with an insurance.. Cash is used less and less. Except maybe on the markets.

    China is way ahead of the curve when it comes to payments. Everything QR. I watched some Brookings Institute video about it, and basically, the banks don't take a cut unless the money flows out of the AliPay of WeChat systems. Peer to peer financing, and basic merchant/customer interactions are all in-system.
    In US, Apple and Samsung are making in-roads, but I still pay in cash, because I'm old.
