Technically? It's the day we Christians celebrate Jesus's birth, but it's not his real birthday. The Catholic Church just made it that along with other things to get more pagans to convert.

    • @poggies7639
      @poggies7639 4 года назад +1

It’s nit actually his birthday, the date was originally much earlier but the church moved it to the 25th because that’s when many pagan holidays were and it would make it easier to convert to Christianity

In the Philippines, Christmas is a HIGHLY anticipated time of the year, with Christmas songs being played in shopping malls since SEPTEMBER, because it's a time for families, especially for those with relatives working overseas, to get together, and EVERYONE gives gifts.
Since we're a predominantly Spanish-influenced Christian country, it's a tradition to go to mass on a daily basis from 9 days before Christmas onwards, either at night or at dawn (Simbang Gabi/Misa de Gallo), and celebrate with local delicacies as a midnight snack or a light breakfast. On Christmas Eve, we go to church at night, and celebrate at midnight with a big family feast (Noche Buena) filled with food like suckling pig, ham, fruit salad, spaghetti, etc.

In Australia Christmas is during summer so it's a bit different to other English speaking countries, it's spent outside and the food is usually prawns and other cold or out door food (there is some hot food but it's not the same) also the pavlova is important too. because it's too hot for the hot dinner they have in the US, also people spend it at the beach or playing cricket etc.

In the Philippines 🇵🇭, Christmas 🎄 is a very big occasion so thats why we celebrate Christmas 🎄 too early. It starts during September until December (ber months). We decorate our home with Christmas tree, Christmas star-shaped lantern 🌟, Christmas Lights, etc. Before The Christmas Day, we have "Noche Buena", we need to wait until it's 12 am ❇ before we eat our food we prepared (such us Spaghetti, Lumpia (Springrolls), Fruit Salad, etc.). Well, I think the big factor why it's a big celebration to us because we Filipinos are mostly Catholic (Roman and Christian). Eventhough we have different tradition during christmas, the important thing is give LOVE ❤ and be kind to one another. Merry Christmas to all of you and have a wonderful year to you 🎅😁😀🎄🎁🎄🎁😂😁🎅

Here in Philippines, we probably have the loooongest Christmas celebration. Malls and stores are starting to play Christmas songs as early as Ber months start. We also have a traditional Catholic belief of "Simbang Gabi" or Night Christmas (but the mass will start at 5am), if you completed attending from December 16 to 24, your wish will come true. Our way of celebrating Christmas is with our families as well, not usually with lovers or friends. We'll start preparing meals at 24th and stay up until 12 midnight to welcome the 25th. :)

I was really shocked when I first knew of the Korean way of celebrating Christmas. Back when I was knew to the Korean culture, it was definitely a culture shock. As someone who lives in the Philippines, it’s the combination of having too many lights and decorations both inside and out, tons of party feels and definitely a time to spend with your family and loved ones ++ most go to church on the night before the eve or by the morning of 25th 😂 We celebrate Christmas earlier than December lol lights are up as soon as “-ber” month start (September, October, November, December) and will continuously be until January. It’s really festive!

In philippines every christmas is like going to christmas parties if not christmas feast (noche buena) with families, street partying (sometimes), children in philippines go to different houses to sing christmas songs and usually after that we give them coins or even cash, we also go for simbang gabi which is going to church starting from 16 until christmas eve or Christmas day itself then after going to church we usually eat a nectarous rice cake ( in filipino is bibingka and putobumbong) and we even greet strangers merry christmas too

In the Philippines,Christmas is really very special. It starts in September and ends in like somewhere in January(?)lol.Anyways, the midnight of December 24,there’s something called Noche Buena which is a huge af feast that the family eats. There’s usually a whole roasted pig(it’s freaky to eat facing it lmao),queso de bola(a cheese ball dipped into edible candle wax),fruits, and basically any food you’d like. Then there are kids going from house to house singing Xmas carols for money(they use homemade instruments so cute hahah), also simbang gabi which is going to church at @$$ o clock.Plus,in Xmas no one is alone ABSOLUTELY NO ONE. Also sometimes there are people going around giving away stuff to the homeless. Also the houses are decorated collorfully and there are like a thousand lights decorating the homes and the streets plus who could forget the gifts? But for older kids there’s ‘aginaldo’ basically they ask for $$$... Here Christmas is more like a magical atmosphere more than anything,it’s like no other.

Wow It's so interesting to see the diferences between the cultures. Here in Argentina we have a family dinner, a lot of people eat asado (barbecue) or some cold dishes like vitel toné (an italian dish), because it's summer and sometimes it's very hot. Then everybody stays up until it's 12 o' clock, we make a toast and give the presents. Also there're a lot of fireworks and kids play with pyrotechnics, some families throw up a little party with music and such. Then the next day when it's Christmas all shops are closed and you suppose to spend time with your family and friends, and eat all the remaining food from the night before.
The funny thing is that we make all this the same on New Year's eve, but with more alcohol included and a lot of people go out to party with friends.

Here in the Philippines Christmas unofficially starts on September. Yes that early. There will be some people getting their decorations ready and some stores would play Christmas songs. As the month goes by, it will get more intense and more people will get festive. We also have 9 days before Christmas of early masses, usually at dawn. On Christmas eve, we have Noche Buena, which is a dinner similar to what Dave mentioned, but main course would be ham or roasted pig and spaghetti. Then on Christmas day, we go to Church. After that kids (and not so kids) go house to house kinda like trick or treating but instead of candies, we are given money and gifts. We also go to our godparents (or find them in case they are hiding) and ask them for gifts. In the afternoon, we can do whatever we want like maybe a Christmas Party or go on a trip. Just like Dave, Christmas is more for family. Christmas then extends until January because of The Three Kings Feast or around early February. So it's like 6 months of Christmas hahaha

It all began with a foreigner(maybe American) wanting to eat something homey as he was missing his family. So he bought kfc and people kinda "aww'd" him and the sympathy slowly turned to trend. So in advertising they started saying that you must buy kfc to feel less lonely and some sort of that bs

I am Mexican and we usually do posadas 9 days before Christmas, posadas are like little celebrations and prayers to mimick the journey of Mary and Joseph to try to find a place for them to stay we also have a dinner afterwards and after that we usually open gift at night in the 24th and the 25th we eat tamales and menudo and spend time with our family then the celebration continues on January 3rd we have the 3 Kings day were kids write a wish on a balloon and release it into the sky and on January 6th the kids get the gifts they put on the balloons and we eat a cake that has little plastic baby’s to symbolize Jesus and if you get one in your slice of cake you will have good fourtune for the rest do the year

Similar! To the parts of Mexico that I go to it's more centered around religion, With each home housing a big nativity set. They mimick the journey as well, holding a Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus-like statues. You pray for awhile and You eat at a different house each night (with variations of menudo, tostadas, posole, tamales, or mole). On the 24th, the final mimick day is held at your local town church. At midnight everyone heads to town for prayers. On the 25th children wake up early to go "pedir el beso", in which they go and kiss the forhead of the baby Jesus at the people's nativity set. In return, people give you a goody bag or fruit . (I like to think of it as reverse Halloween 😅😁).
Here in the U.S. my Mexican American family likes to do a blend; Santa Claus, Christmas tree, gifts, and Christmas movies + tamales, posole, buñuelos, and a nativity set. It's weird I know lol.
Thanks for the memory trip, it's been a few years that I've been to Mexico 😭😫👏🏼

We buy crates of soft drinks/sodas, and we make black cake and white cake. People also drink on this day, and spend the day with family. We would send food, soft drink and cake to our family members and neighbor's. On Christmas ever we stay up late to count down Christmas and at 12:00 we burst dynamite and fireworks. We also buy fruits like apples and grapes for Christmas as well
