I love listening to you guys, i dont know why but i have the feeling im meant to build something big. Im from austria, i have an uncle in the usa that i dont know personally yet but you cant imagine how much i wanna meet him one day. He founded the biggest independent music label of the usa and is completely self made. He also has an amazing "house" in the hamptons and many more. Its such a different world but im soo proud that i have such a successfull person in my family. If i had one wish free i would wish to get known to him and that he teaches me about all the stuff he knows. Maybe some you guys even know him.
I’ve been making reading lists from Ryan’s emails for years. Sorry I’ve never used your affiliate links amigo - will change that going forward. Thanks for years of greatness
This video was brilliant- appreciate both of you for having this conversation. The importance of having an incredible work ethic, keeping your morals despite your wealth and success- having one doesn't mean you have to lack in another.
Totally interesting. I would be interested though to hear more about how he got the ball rolling in the beginning: I read that he was in marketing at the start of his career, even though he dropped out of college. How does that work? Connections? Or did he perform some brilliant marketing feats? I'm just interested, because what this guy accomplished is totally impressive.
ever notice that no one ever tells you how that actually 'did it' no matter what it is? no one wants competition. IF I were to guess 1) parents were at a minimum upper middle class to wealthy and had connections. no one drops out of college and just gets a job with american apperal 2) yes networking and contacts he also made 3) a pinch of luck
@@goldiefatale That's what was in the back of my mind as well... If it was a story from rags to riches, then I bet that this guy would have dropped something about that for sure. Nevertheless, he did work hard to get where he is today and he definitely is an inspiration as to what can be achieved! What did you take from this interview?
You can read Ryan’s early blogs and he talks about all this. If I recall he wrote a piece in his college newspaper about Tucker Max’s book that Tucker read. He then worked with Tucker for a bit helping market his blog and books. Then met Dov Charney and became VP marketing for American apparel at like 22. Once that ended, wrote Trust Me Im Lyjng about marketing tactics used for Tucker’s work and AA. Then had a platform to start writing stoicism, launched Obstacle is the Way.
Great episode. I try to avoid anything about stoicism, it doesn’t appeal to me as I’m an absurdist. However, I might have to listen to a few of his videos.
I’ve always wondered where their quantity comes from. The number of posts/emails/newsletters, etc., producing the content is one thing, but finding the endless amount of topics that they produce content for, that’s what gets me…
I love Ryan Holiday, and all his stuff... but this is the best interview with him ever.
To think Ryan is only 35 years old with how much content he has put out.

Sam specializes in constantly interrupting people with questions when they're on an interesting tangent/trtain of thought.

J. K. Rowling is a billionaire due to the movie deals, not book sales.
Great show guys.

Wonder who that musician in NY was.
Bon Jovi
My guess is he’s talking about Jon Bon Jovi.

Class episode
I really don't trust this Ryan guy. His inability to understand why someone may have different political views than him, like Thiel, is very telling.
I like Ryan but agree it super off putting.
One of my top 5 MFM youtube videos
Hahaha Ryan. Nielsen is weird
One of the best interviews on your channel. Wow 😮
no the audio seems fine
This is a gem
Here for it!!
Dude - epic to have Ryan on
