    Fascinating , they. Seem to have really made a niche in this country , , I once found a spider on my front door about 30 years ago. Big strong , and very intimidating , not scared at all , of humans , in fact very aggressive . Defensive , even made a hissing sound too , make of that what you will , the closest species is a wasp spider but this was bigger , really thick set , I captured it took it to local pet shop , they had never seen this species either , they said they would give it to local spider enthusiast , that was last i heard never seen one since , very rare ,

    This snake eats birds, eggs , mice, moles etc.. Just like the grey squirrel it will eventually become a pest..

    • @IanPhillipsWildlife
      @IanPhillipsWildlife  2 месяца назад +3

      That is a slight possibility, but the conditions for them to spread in the UK aren't as favourable as they as they were for the grey squirrel. None of the UK populations are increasing significantly, one is decreasing and a study has concluded it will eventually die out. I don't know the stats for the Welsh population, but they are closely monitored by the local university. The area that the snakes in the video where filmed in doesn't have enough connections to other suitable habitat for them to spread, there were more sightings at the edges of their range during lockdown but numbers and surrounding roads pretty much rule out this population expanding. Warmer summers may work in favour of this species, but I don't see them increasing much without more introductions.
