This documentary of the Civil War Reenactment is very well done. I'm very impressed by the level of detail, knowledge, and commitment exhibited by the participants. I've always been fascinated with the American Civil War and I think keeping the history alive in this way is a very empowering and beneficial thing to do. I congratulate all involved. I think I would like to attend one of these reenactments sometime. I live in Ohio so perhaps I will be able to find one close to me here. (And on another note, I've read a lot of the comments below - many of them concerning themselves with the average age and weight of the reenactors. These people are not filming a movie, they are fulfilling a dream, acting on a passion, and contributing to the rich history of this nation. What they do, they do out of love for country, family, friends, and history. And I say, more power to to them).
I've always thought of America as a country with a proud history and a ingrained sense of patriotism. Reading the comments here I see a very different picture, it is almost as if you are as divided now, as you were when these events actually took place..
For someone that was in Band for 4.5 years and played the trumpet. My ear knows what an in tune note is, I can't say I could enjoy the music thoroughly. Not to say the band members can't play but its most likely the instruments.

I believe its more accurate being ever so slightly out of tune, especially considering that one would tune by ear at that time. Also banjo players are never in tune, and Id know since I am one. I understand why it might bother some. Especially if you were to have perfect pitch or a very keen ear.

Question. Do they still use the original canons. On the field? Or bring replicas? I was part of the reenactment. At old bethpage yearly in the 1990s. And did join the 119 Regiment. But due to lack in funds. Didnt get to go that year. Bummer.

We used to have a reenactment 2 times a year here when I was a kid and I attended every one. In 2008 it stopped for good and I think that is wrong. We need to keep this stuff alive and never forget it. History is so incredibly important!

The militia of Louisiana had an italian guards battalion, later renamed 6th Regiment European Brigade, and other companies within regiments from Alabama, Virginia, Tennessee and Louisiana. General William Booth Taliaferro served in the Confederate Army as well as the commanders of the 6th Regiment European Brigade, Lt.Della Valle, Captain Marzoni, Captain Santini, First Lieutenant Marinoni and Second Lieutenant Baselli. Enlisted men in the artillery were not usually issued weapons. I'm familiar with a few accounts of enlisted men carrying revolvers, but it was pretty rare.
The union arilleryman had swords and Confederate arillery NCOS had swords as well. Mostly they were able to bring weapons from home if they had them too

Hey Lester! I recommend looking for units in your area. Usually a unit or individuals will be more than willing to loan you some stuff to see how you like it.
I lived in Europe for half my childhood. from 2002 to 2010 I lived in Hungary from 2nd to 9th grade. It's where I hit puberty, started liking girls, started to find my identity, thought about what I want to do in life, etc. But European history just doesn't fascinate me as much as U.S. history. I also know that, a surprising number of Americans dismiss their own country as "evil" and "fascist" even though it was the United States that fought the Nazi's in World War 2. Meanwhile, the Europeans these people want to be like so much, also dismiss their own history as evil, and, ironically, I've met many Europeans who wish Europe was more like America. I love America. The history is nasty, sure, but history is nasty all over the world. People have sucked throughout time and across many cultures. The U.S., neither the north, nor the south, is somehow more or less evil than any other part of the world.

@@thewierdlemon5956 Keep in mind that the rifles used for reenacting are real, firing rifles. Putting paintballs--even with a reduced powder charge--would actually ruin them! Also, the pressure from the ignition inside the barrel would explode the paintball before it even left the barrel.

Not much--the 1st lieutenant was usually in command of a company's First Platoon while the 2nd lieutenant had charge of the Second Platoon.

Pretty much just for education purposes. You're right that Davis was nowhere near Gettysburg during the battle.

I hope when you say real life you are talking about a reenactment in real life. If you are talking about wanting to see an actual bloody battle you are an idiot. An actual battle isn't some fun show that you should get off on. Grow up. Now if you meant just a reenactment, then ignore the insults.

It’s sad that Gettysburg isn’t happening this year I hope it happens next year as I am trying to get a company of younger guys together I got to get other young guys into this hobby or else history is doomed to repeat it self
