It was really good to have met you, JD. I was the old marine you met between the bleachers who was on the way to New York. Enjoyed our discussion and knowing you would be presenting another presentation of very important history. God speed.
One of the things that sticks out to me the most when I was there was physically feeling the thunder of the cannons in your chest. Couldn’t imagine a full charge going off in a real battle. Mind blowing! As always great stuff JD.
Boy I really appreciated that artillery demonstration. I was a gunner on the 155mm triple 7 in the 101st and 1st AD. I can't believe how much of their procedure is the same as ours to this day. Really the only thing that's changed is the primers and well we can send rounds about 20 miles now haha. Thank you!
Wish you could have joined us the weekend before at Black Horse Tavern for the PCWA reenactment.. That was a sight to see!!. As someone who participated.. that weekend will forever be etched in my memory.
I was at Gettysburg July 2nd 2003 the 140 year anniversary, but I can say for sure 20 years later it's 100 times better representation. Thank you for showing all the great action.
I am a Civil War Re-enactor, and though a female, take the field and serve as a man. Public education is one of our main goals; I have served Union and Confederate Infantry, and now serve Union and Confederate Navy. Our hobby is based on love of history and the research we do for our persona is something we all love to share.
That's great to hear, Ms. Erhart🙂 I completely agree with you on the perspective of historical preservation and reenacting living history, ma'am💯 My late uncle was one both Union & Confederate for over 30 years prior to his passing away

I reenacted for about 15 years, through the 1990's into the early 2000's. Our unit, The Georgia Division of Reenactors Association, or GDRA, was very active, and I was lucky enough to have participated in most of the 130th and 135th anniversary events. The 135th Gettysburg was HUGE! As I understand we had close to 20,000 reenactors and about 50,000 spectators. Thanks for posting this, it brings back a lot of good memories!
It’s cool to see Civil war re-enactments and impressions still going on. I thought ACW re-enactments were becoming all too rare. Great seeing this. Being a retired (WWII) reenactor myself I still think re-enactments are such an awesome medium and tool for education and generating interest in history!
I think such things are not good for people. To gather families together and 'pretend war' with everyone happy and having a good time does not represent war at all. Not something to celebrate or normalize. Especially a war these people lost, they fought their own country just to keep black people as slaves. That fact is not something that ever shows up at these events.. You want war education? There is one going on right now and thanks to DJI and GoPro and YT we get to see it unfold. It isn't a fun and happy time, no one is celebrating.
That's pretty cool they still do the reenactment. My parents took me to Gettysburg in the 80s and we stayed at a campground that unknown to us, they were going to have a reenactment. It was a great experience. Never forgot that. They are great people that do these.
You video brought back fond memories. My son and I had the best time as part of Byrne’s Kentucky Battery in Louisville KY. It combined History, Camping, and good friends. What’s not to like!
I was there for 3 days with my Son and Grandson and seen all the Battles and Demos.... Excellent Event 🇺🇸 The Reenactors put their Heart and Soul into their Roles and we appreciate what they do.💗
The cannon firing sequence was so interesting and informative. It took so much team work to fire artillery. Love the carbine! I have always wondered what one looked like up close and how they worked.
The reenactors devote much time and expense in their pursuit of preserving this vital period of history. I was privileged to be a member of the Billy Yank committee in Hackettstown, NJ which raised funds to replace the Billy Yank monument which was destroyed by NJDOT in the early 20th century. The replica monument now stands on a donated piece of ground by the 5 points intersection of US Route 46. This was a fantastic video of the 160th Gettysburg anniversary. Thank you for your time and devotion with all of your videos. Take care and God be with you.😎
Even though I live close to Gettysburg I've never been to the reenactments. I think now, with the heat and humidity and all the people there, I really wouldn't be able to stay long enough to enjoy it. Thank you for bringing it to us!!

You know I seriously considered going to this 160th anniversary in Gettysburg but I didn’t. I’m only 60-65 miles away to the east. But I also know how very crowded and parked up Gberg can be as well. So Thank You So Much! Instead I went to the range and fired my 1851 Navy 36 cal. Pistol, my 1860 Army 44 cal., my 50 cal Hawkens and my original N. Starr Army issue 69 cal. 1829. Which most likely was used in the Civil War. I restored this gun which had been flintlock and converted to cap and ball by the military in later years. You have learned a lot in your visits to Gettysburg. You are right. The Confederates did not use Dodge. Typically, they used a modified, captured Chevy or Ford. Dodge is definitely post-war.
joe seems so gentile and willing to share his knowledge. It really shows how willing people are to share what they know to strangers. sadly the only reenactment we have here in Arizona is the skirmish is Piacacho Peak. but every year, i learn something new
Thanks JD awesome video... I've been to a lot of battlefields and seen a few re-enactments, but it didn't hit home until you mentioned that at the battle all together there was over 1000 cannons. Do the math each cannon take 4 to 6 horses to pull, each Caisson taking 2 to 4 horses, then all the officers riding horses, ambulances, supply wagons.... holy crap that is a lot of horses!!! Good Job!!! Well Done!!!!
That was really cool, JD. I like things like that. I like going to the Fort Bridger Mountain Man Rendezvous in September. They fire off canons there too. They fire off a canon in Panquitch, Ut. on the 4th of July at 6AM. It wakes you up when you hear the BABOOM, BABOOM, over, and over again, and again. 🙂

@@TheHistoryUnderground we are moving to Gettysburg area in about a month look forward to seeing a ll the museums.
I just moved to pa an I can’t wait to check out the historical sites. Love history 0:29
👍🏻
You have learned a lot in your visits to Gettysburg. You are right. The Confederates did not use Dodge. Typically, they used a modified, captured Chevy or Ford. Dodge is definitely post-war.
😅
joe seems so gentile and willing to share his knowledge. It really shows how willing people are to share what they know to strangers. sadly the only reenactment we have here in Arizona is the skirmish is Piacacho Peak. but every year, i learn something new
not sure how to spell the word, hope it doesn't comes across the wrong way!
Thank you for the videos and showing places I would never get to see
Awesome video again jd. Love this part of the channel. Now i get a little bit of American history thanks to you
This is incredible! I love this episode-WOW!
👊🏻
This was nice to see. Thanks for getting out and showing us this ❤
Thanks JD awesome video...
