I am a Civil War Re-enactor, and though a female, take the field and serve as a man. Public education is one of our main goals; I have served Union and Confederate Infantry, and now serve Union and Confederate Navy. Our hobby is based on love of history and the research we do for our persona is something we all love to share.

The reenactors devote much time and expense in their pursuit of preserving this vital period of history. I was privileged to be a member of the Billy Yank committee in Hackettstown, NJ which raised funds to replace the Billy Yank monument which was destroyed by NJDOT in the early 20th century. The replica monument now stands on a donated piece of ground by the 5 points intersection of US Route 46. This was a fantastic video of the 160th Gettysburg anniversary. Thank you for your time and devotion with all of your videos. Take care and God be with you.😎

I reenacted for about 15 years, through the 1990's into the early 2000's. Our unit, The Georgia Division of Reenactors Association, or GDRA, was very active, and I was lucky enough to have participated in most of the 130th and 135th anniversary events. The 135th Gettysburg was HUGE! As I understand we had close to 20,000 reenactors and about 50,000 spectators. Thanks for posting this, it brings back a lot of good memories!

I think such things are not good for people. To gather families together and 'pretend war' with everyone happy and having a good time does not represent war at all.
Not something to celebrate or normalize. Especially a war these people lost, they fought their own country just to keep black people as slaves. That fact is not something that ever shows up at these events..
You want war education? There is one going on right now and thanks to DJI and GoPro and YT we get to see it unfold. It isn't a fun and happy time, no one is celebrating.

You know I seriously considered going to this 160th anniversary in Gettysburg but I didn’t. I’m only 60-65 miles away to the east. But I also know how very crowded and parked up Gberg can be as well. So Thank You So Much! Instead I went to the range and fired my 1851 Navy 36 cal. Pistol, my 1860 Army 44 cal., my 50 cal Hawkens and my original N. Starr Army issue 69 cal. 1829. Which most likely was used in the Civil War. I restored this gun which had been flintlock and converted to cap and ball by the military in later years. Firing these weapons makes you appreciate the effort to use them and those who received its fury. Amazing how anyone survived all the lead in the air. You have a Super and Very Well Appreciated Channel! Many Blessings and Safe Journeys! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

My GF and I really enjoyed doing our own thing too, just driving around to see a lot of the Monuments and Devils Den. Unfortunately Little Round Top is closed for a preservation /renovation type of treatment, but that just goes to show how much TLC they put into such a wonderfully Historic place in U.S. History. I am a history buff, mainly because of the interest that I took in high school history classes, which are fading away with lots of people monitoring and trying to erase it,but I believe that if people take interest in history and see what took place and why ,then these events won't repeat themselves, and because my grandmother use to tell me stories about my great aunts and her son's that died serving their cause for their southern government, also that because of these terrible events, the northern armies use to take supplies ,food and other things from the the southern states while they were invading southern territory, which my grandmother use to tell me that her great aunt use to poison the food that was stolen by those armies that foraged, these tearable events should never repeat themselves and poor people farmers were called to serve, when they were ask, just like any other military event and they had to serve,so people should stop trying to erase history and learn from it,statues were erected for those veterans who served, and they should be honored, without hatred or other reasons,to better their governments agenda for votes.to erect what I believe their own heritage and agenda, for someone that never served a cause which I don't celebrate those holidays because outsiders try to erase our my families heritage, also my dad's family had a two hundred fifty acre tobacco farm in Wilson county and he did own slaves for which after civil war he granted them deeds to some of the land,so the upper deep south is not like others portray,my family on my dads side was good to people,so people can keep try to destroy monuments and erasing history,it's not a good idea.

I haven’t been to Gettysburg since the late 90’s. It remains one of the most affecting experiences of my life. There weren’t any re-enactments going on that visit, though I’ve seen them on other battlefields over the years. Just discovered your channel and am loving the content. 🙏🏻❤️

Seeing the spectators reminded me of the picnickers at Manassas. Oh, dearie my! That didn't end nearly so well.

love that Civil War history, it's good here in 2023 that we can still celebrate and hold a great respect to those men who were fighting for a just cause, even here in Gainesville Florida, held by the south largely during the war as a supply line route either by boat or by train during that time in which the North invaded and try to take back to which i attend the reenactments one here in town ,and the other in Olustee, and the last of the "COFEDERATE" gold was to said have been taken from here in Gainesville en-route back to Virginia at the end.

Thanks for providing the NEXT BEST THING! :) If we can't be there in person this sure brings a lot into our homes. Keep up the good work,, AND,, I hope you can feature some of the smaller battle fields in the coming months..

ENVY! My uncle said there were thousands of people there for the anniversary, so that tempered me somewhat. How good are you? I recognized the bucktail on the fife player's hat! There is SO much upon which to remark, like you should have tried the birch beer (soda). It's like root beer, but better!
