If you’re new to my channel, my name is Alex Hormozi. I’m the founder and managing partner of Acquisition.com. It’s a family office, which is just a formal way of saying we invest our own money into companies. Our 10 portfolio companies bring in over $200,000,000+ per year. Our ownership stake varies between 20% and 100% of them. Given this is a YT channel, and anyone can claim anything, I’ll give you some stuff you can google to verify below.
    How I got here…
21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
31 yrs old: Started our family office Acquisition.com. We invest and scale companies using the $42M in distributions we had taken + the cash from the $46.2M exit.
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.
34 yrs old: I became co-owner of Skool.com to help the many people who want to start a business online do so.
Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).
To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.
You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.
Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.
    Never quit,
    Alex
    FULL DISCLOSURE
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

I was making around $50k a year and my rent was $1650 here in Los Angeles around 2013 for a 2 bedroom. I ended getting a Roomate and charging $1200 all utilities included and saved and invested a large part of my income. I lived well below my means, drove a 2003 Camry and now have almost a million in liquidity. Granted it took some time but now I take 2 trips a year with my fiancé and surf everyday and have my own business that teaches private self defense to areas like Bel Air, Malibu and palisades. I have instructors whom were once my students teach all over LA and I only work about 10hrs a week making a little over a quarter million a year. My goal is to make $3mil a year. Alex has some of the best advice and wish I knew about him sooner 🙏🏽

The market is a bubble and I have heard advisors make the best of how things turn out in a bear market. How can one enlist the services of an adviser? I’m retiring in 6 months. There are comments referring to one or another but I can’t tell how authentic those are. I am stuck on deciding how to draw in retirement and spend without losing due to inflation with a huge cash position.

Ooof that living situation sounds like a rough time, but not a bad time! I'm testing a way to get by with no rent, paid groceries, and some adventurous views by moving onto a sailboat with a family who's letting me stay with them and feed me in exchange for being their crew and helping care for their kid. Ocean views in the Bahamas with no rent, no food costs in exchange for some fun and adventurous labor! I'm hoping when the waters are calm and we're anchored it gives me enough time to work on my business.

So interesting. Going through this now but really living in NYC running around like a chicken without a head.
Eggs (best on sale), bone broth, nuts (on-sale) many things you can order online for free delivery.
And I also buy pre-made salads. Making salads is so tedious. And I have moved back to my hometown. Living with fam while I develop my business. NYC was too expensive to hustle. I cut all of my more expensive expenses to give me time to grow and reprogram my mindset.
Also, I eat no more than two meals per day. Not on purpose. I am a coffee drinker and it cuts my appetite.

I’m not doing it this way - but it’s probably the better way overall. Have had lots of ups and downs, too much debt etc. But after 20 years of working (37 now)…make about $40k/month, spend about $30k/month, but I’m focused on increasing income vs not spending what we spend. (The $30k includes all bills, saving in 401k and discretionary spending for family of 4, which isn’t that hard to get to).
But I’d rather drive the car I want, live where I want and vacation where I want and not worry about it. $30k tho is the ceiling where I don’t feel the need to spend more if we make more.
    But $1,500/month I haven’t done since college - so that’s not happening 😂.

I'd recommend that if you do buy a car for 10k to put some cash aside each month for repairs. A lot of used cars will have something go wrong at some point and it's better to be prepared then figuring out where to find cash to pay for the repairs. Great info as always!

The awesome thing about 11:42 (Maximizing spending little and making tons) is they weirdly go hand in hand.
Dave Grohl of Nirvana once talked about once his band took off and started making tons of money from playing shows that he was too busy to spend any of it, which just increased how much he kept.
The moral of the story here is... get busy making money in order to spend less!

My go to for fast food, if you have one near you, is pollo tropical. Half-chicken meal, two breasts and two wings, two cups of brown rice and black beans used to be like $8. Probably $10 now. I'd eat that 4x per week, can barely even cook that cheap, and they make it way better than I ever could. It's marinated and grilled, not that fried and breaded junk.
