A vocal coach (who can replicate a surprising amount of techniques) said she thinks that it`s achieved by jamming the larynx in a fixed position and then slamming it with pulses from the vocal cords. A very fast series of "ho-ho-ho-ho-ho". And then releases the larynx from the fixed position, and continued the vocalise with a free, loose larynx.
He inserted this bit as a mourning vocalize in honor of the lead singer of the band who created the song, singer who died in 2015 from a heart attack at age 52. Dimash looked up to him and considered him one of the most talented kazakh singers. The rest of the band is playing on stage accompanying Dimash. Keyboard man is the composer. This was the opening day of the music festival and I think the whole day was a tribute to the band, several singers covering one of the band`s songs.
That last glissando high mix + riffs + runs lasted 23 seconds in one breath :)

My fav performance of this song was in his Arnau concert. If you have time, you can watch it in your own time. I think it was a fancam but has a good quality and solely focused on him. You can see and watch his face how he can do this gottoral sound. Another one was in China, he performed Stranger and he changed the chorus part into this oriental gottoral melismas..its unbelievable, mind boggling and epic. His new song The Story of one Sky will blow your mind too. Welcome to Dimash rabbit hole🥰🥰dear from canada

Yeah he should def watch the fancam of Sinful Passion- also of course he changes the style a bit of how he sings throughout, but it’s just really great for the camera being trained on his face the whole time to really see his technique in a different way. And definitely you need to also see the Shine! Super Brothers version of Stranger as well. He had sinus infection, sick & waiting all day to perform- didn’t get to until after midnight.. had less time for the performance than the original, & how he changes it, the melismas- you’ll definitely be blown away.

It's a Yakutian style of singing that Dimash inserted into the song in tribute to the original singer who had passed away.
I suppose in some way it must be related to Mongolian Throat singing.
There is an updated video from 2022 showing Dimash's complete range. His full range goes from G0 to D8, including both vocal fry and whistle notes, his natural range is E2 to F#6.
He's constantly working and studying to improve his skills, it's like he hears an unusual sound or technique and if it sounds appealing to him he wants to learn how to reproduce it.
When he was rehearsing for the Almaty concert, the Qobyz player, Olzhas, was not there for rehearsal so Dimash sang the Qobyz part. We've also heard him show a flute player the exact sound he wanted by singing the flute part like a flute. There's really not much he can't do with his voice but he has been training that voice for 23 years and still does vocal training for a minimum of 3 hours every day.

"The song Sinful Passion, was first performed in 1998 by the Kazakh group A’STUDIO and gained leading positions in the CIS charts. Sinful love soon visibly materialized in the clip with soloist Batyrkhan Shukenov. The talented vocalist left the band in 2000. Without the lead singer, “Sinful Passion”, recorded with the help of an English producer, lay in obscurity for nearly 20 years, never becoming a worldwide hit until Baigali Serkebaev seized it. He offered Dimash to play it in 2018, twenty years after its premiere. The words of the song are the inspiration of the famous poet and composer, People's Artist of Russia and Ukraine Ilya Reznik. Group A - Studio in 2018 celebrated its 30th anniversary. For his great contribution to the development of the culture of the republic, Baigali Serkebaev was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of Kazakhstan (here he plays the keyboard). Dimash can be safely called a magician. By the power of his voice and talent, the composition about sinful love came to life out of nowhere."

I could feel that you were still stuck with the joodeling:ish thing when you listened to the last part of the performance.. 😂😂🤯🤯 You kind of missed that the crescendo at the end starting of with wild belting, and then downwards riffs and runs was ALL IN ONE BREATH.....! 24 seconds.....!

What Dimash is doing in that section: He is using his break as if he is yodeling, but instead of staying in the head / falsetto register of the break, he immediately returns to chest and does this repeatedly in rapid succession. He does not interrupt the airflow glottal-wise like you were trying, but keeps it flowing, that's why it is so smooth.
Did you notice that he sang the entire passage that included the slide without breathing? That was 24 seconds long.

In 2020 the program was cancelled due to covid, in 2021 he presented his new songs "STRANGER" and 'AVE MARIA' and served as a member of the jury. In 2022, the program was cancelled again due to the current situation. I hope it will be restored by 2024.

This was another very enjoyable reaction. This was his 2018 guest performance at the New Wave competition held annually since 2002 at the New Wave Hall in Sochi Olympic Park. The band A-Studio is originally from Kazakhstan. The keyboard player, Baigali Serkebaev, composed the song together with the poet Ilia Reznik, and the song was first performed in 1998. The singer of the group A-Studio passed away in 2015, and in this concert, the group was backing up guest vocalists. The triangle man is multi-percussionist Ilya Pokrovsky, a very talented man and a close friend of Dimash and member of the Dimash team (DQ Team). He plays various percussion instruments and accompanies Dimash in all his concerts.
Someone explained that the special tribal riff is something practiced in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and other parts of Asia. A similar technique is also used in some parts of the Middle East. It is referred to by some as a "glottal stop". We use it too when we say "uh oh". A Kazakh RUclipsr commented that Dimash used a Kazakh singing technique, called 'komeymen aytu'. You can hear it among the Turan Group. Sakha people use this technique too; they call it 'kylyhah'. I read somewhere that the tribal vocalization was a tribute to the deceased singer, as it is similar to a technique usually used by women in Kazakh funeral ceremonies. The final run is 21.73 seconds on one breath.
This competition was organized by the man in the white shirt who stood up in the first row, Billionaire Igor Krutoy, a famous Ukrainian and Russian music composer, performer, producer, and musical promoter. He invited Dimash to perform and it was this performance that prompted him to come out of retirement and compose masterpieces for Dimash to sing, such as I Miss You, Ogni Pietra, Your Love, Stranger, and Ave Maria, just to name a few. Since this concert, he has been collaborating with Dimash, writing music with his vocal range in mind, and often accompanying him on the piano. So you'll see more of him.
There is another performance of this song of one of his more recent concerts. It is as good or better because you can hear certain parts clearer and the camera stays on him most of the time. Here is the link, in case you want to watch it. He is consistently perfect. ruclips.net/video/BJdR5aHzCaM/видео.html

The weird vibrato is called trillo, glottal vibrato or goat trill in European terminology. But I think he got it from Kazakh folk music. Most of the turkic countries have this in their folk music - including the special wiggly vibrato in Stranger.
My impression is that it is done by starting a yodel, but instead of punching through to the head voice, you bounce back down off of the barrier and then half yodel back up again. I gather if you can yodel really well, it shouldn't be too hard.
These special vibratos seem to show up in the folk music of all the main Islamic countries.
This plus all the fast voice range changes, airy voice with accurate pitch - it is all so hard to do cleanly. But he has been training under classical voice coaches since 5 years old and trained all the way through without breaks, so especially he trained through puberty and didn't lose his young boy high range. This is a combination of natural talent, early vocal nurturing and then his personal diligence in growing his vocal skills.
He even follows the old school dietary rules for safeguarding his voice.

The part you kept going back to has been referred to by some vocal coaches as a goat trill, and from what I understand it is an ethnic traditional style of singing. The last dramatic section of the song was done on one breath (between 22 and 24 seconds). Another thing to keep in mind is that Dimash has been studying and training continuously for over 20 years.

These kind of sound he does in one or another song. It’s really awesome.
Here he sings in a competition for young musicians, called New Wave in Sochi, Russia. He was there in 2018 as a guest.
The gentleman at the end you see standing and clapping is the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. He has come out of retirement to work with Dimash. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range, such as Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship. These last three songs are mind-blowing and will leave you speechless. I promise.
If you like some really great fancam versions then I recommend the one from the Moscow concert: ruclips.net/video/uxLhwfFFUQs/видео.html
Or another one from the Arnau concert: ruclips.net/video/YJElGH2hquw/видео.html
They are all a bit different
Please react next to Olimpico from his Arnau concert. In this song he sings in Italian. You can find it on Igor Krutoy‘s Channel. He is a famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He has come out of retirement to work with Dimash. You’ll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It’s more like a father/son relationship. Olimpico is another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for Dimash’s vocal skills. This song and this performance is my absolute favourite🥰. I think this version is the best, because his performance is so intense and breathtaking. The light show, the background dancers. Everything. With this song in this version I have gasping breath all the time. The way he represents himself on stage, the hand movements. I think he has incredibly beautiful hands🤭(and apparently many cameramen think so too, since many of the camera shots during his performances very often only show his hands. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. This is really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. There he looks so demanding and so bossy😱 (I hope it‘s the right word-English is not my native language). There he is such a Beast😳! It’s absolutely stunning. Gasping and racing heart and I’m not even talking about him singing. Oh wow I’m starting to rave again…🤤 Sorry but I can’t help it🥺. I swear it is mind-blowing 🤯

    * Dimash - Love is like a dream (Alla Pugacheva) ruclips.net/video/xLEQzfqO_l0/видео.html
This is a cover of Sinful Passion originally by A´Studio. One of the iconic songs by Dimash. The bass and the piano players were part of that band and the second was one of the songwiters.
6:25 the greeting/farewell to the spirits inherited from Turkic/Tengrenist traditions in certain muslim tribes in the ancient Turan to pay homage to the ancestors and spirits of nature. In Spanish I know it as "hammering vibrato" or "glottal vibrato". In Iran I heard they call it "che-che". It is not yodeling but an ethnic technique relative to yodeling but needs more control on the notes you sing than in yodeling.

The "crazy vibrato" is traditional and ancient Kazakh throat singing which is found in all the indigenous Asian/Eurasian steppes nomad clans and tribes.. All people that live in Quazakstan are not Kazakh. Dimash is a direct descendant of a noble family of the 14th century Khanate (Genghis) of the Junior Zhuz and lives traditionally, the extended family under one roof. Genealogy is extremely important in his culture. The Mongols have a form of throat singing as do Turkik tribes ( Tajik, Kipchik etc) Arab traditional singing has a form called melissimas.. That was a traditional Kazakh mourning chant he inserted as a tribute to the deceased member of the band who are Kazakh and beloved. It was so well received, it remains in his performance.

Hey there, you are correct, it’s not an effect, it’s his voice) I’m no expert either, but I’ve heard an expert call it a Monteverdi trill, if it helps 😊 I’d like to see a duet with Mitch as well 😁

Dimash také velmi miluje písně Michaela Jackson, to je vidět v písních Be with me, nebo Zhalyn. :-)
