Thank you for your genuine appreciation of Dimash’s insane talent! He’s not only an exceptional vocalist, but also an accomplished musician and an amazing performer.
It was Dimash’s idea to incorporate the beautiful and haunting sound of the Qobyz, the traditional Kazakh string instrument: what a brilliant addition to the composition! It gives much more depth to the meaning of the song I think.
Also, listening to Stranger is in and of itself a musical journey where we’re accompanying Dimash through this “stranger’s land” with each and every vocal technique and singing style which denotes a different culture and path in life.
Dimash does not use his vocal abilities to show off, but to serve the song: through his voice, he’s telling us a story; like in his latest masterpiece that he composed himself, “The Story of One Sky” (we are divided into different countries, races and faiths, but we all share the same sky: this song is a cry for peace and unity).
By the way, STRANGER is his original song, composed by Igor Krutoy specifically for Dimash. Whenever you see Igor Krutoy accompanying him on the piano during a live performance, like in this video, it means that he composed the song for Dimash.
I put some links below of great songs to react to. I’m sure other Dears (aka his fans) will suggest many more hehe… Take your time and enjoy your musical journey into the “Dimashverse”!

He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies like this that have such a mystical vibe. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz (the instrument you mentioned) for that.
Stranger was performed in Sochi, Russia in 2021 at the New Wave singer competition. Dimash was there as a jury member
The kobyz is a very old Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter.
    Greetings from Germany👋❤️

"Stranger" is the first of three songs Dimash premiered in August 2021, during his performance at the annual New Wave music competition in Sochi, Russia. He again performed with Igor Krotoy on the piano and introduced Olzhas Qurmanbeck on the kobyz. Igor Krutoy composed the music, American poetess Sharon Vaughn wrote the lyrics, and Dimitris Kontopoulos (Greece) and Yerlan Bekchurin (Kazakhstan) did the arrangement.
Igor Krutoy is quoted as saying, "it was Dimash's talent that inspired me to write this song, his immense vocal abilities and his desire to sing for a large international audience. Franky, I don't see anyone else who could perform this piece in such a way."
In my humble opinion, this is an amazing performance, one of the best to date. Dimash traverses almost 5 octaves (C2-F6) in this performance. That stunning last note is about 19.7 seconds in full mixed voice belt in F#5. Dimash performs an alternate version of "Stranger" on the "Shine! Super Brothers S2" Youku Show that is simply mind-boggling and well-worth checking out. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/thbgh0qIscI/видео.html
When Dimash first listened to the melody of "Stranger," he felt that the addition of a kobyz to the musical arrangement would give the song a unique yet very fitting sound. Thus, the kobyz debuted at the New Wave Hall at the Sochi Olympic Park, and what a great choice indeed. It is a beautiful sounding instrument that underscores the song's deep meaning. This wasn't the first time that Dimash has featured Olzhas Qurmanbeck playing the kobyz. You can also enjoy him in a few of Dimash's other performances, such as Qairan Elim (official music video) and Samaltau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival).
The kobyz, played here by Olzhas Qurmanbeck, is a 5,000-year-old, traditional, sacred instrument in Kazakhstan. The kobyz or Kyl kobyz is the most ancient bowed instrument on earth, widespread among the Turks, Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. It became the basis for most of today's bowed instruments worldwide, including European instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and contrabass. The Kyrgyz variant is called Kyl kayak.
The instrument is carved from a single piece of wood (typically apricot), juniper (arsha), maple, pine tree, or birch. The instrument consists of three parts: head (base), middle (base is keude), and lower part (ayak) and usually measures 60-70 cm. The resonant cavity is usually covered with goatskin, reproducing a sound representing the animals of the steppe. It has two strings made from horsetail hair, one to provide melody and the other resonance.
Someone explained that one string is made with 75 horse hairs and the other with 60 horsehairs. The strings are not pushed down to a fret but are played with pressure applied by either the fingernail or the pad on the finger, and the tones are varied by the pressure of the bow. The bow is shaped like an archer's bow, and its string, made with 40 horse hairs, is tied to both ends of the bent branch and affixed with strong threads of camel wool.
The New Wave Music competition started in 2002 and for nearly two decades now, has been one of the most iconic music events in Russia and other parts of the world. It is an international contest for young performers of popular music. It was founded by Russian composer, performer, and music producer Igor Krutoy (seen here playing the piano) and Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls. Russian superstar Alla Pugacheva eventually joined as one of the show's organizers. The contest usually lasts for six days: 3 contest days, 2 special event days, and the final day when the contest's results are announced and a final concert is performed. The television audience of the New Wave music competition numbers more than 200 million people. In 2018, Dimash debuted as a guest performer, performing his now legendary rendition of "Sinful Passion." This year (2021), Dimash took part as a guest performer and a judge. 11 participants from 9 countries competed for the grand prize in the finale.

The vocal range on this song was C2 to F6. Just a suggestion, when you pause mid phrase or note, just go back a few seconds when you start up again to catch the notes leading into that section you paused on (a single tap of the left arrow key should do it). It's better for the viewers and I think better for you especially if it's the first time ever hearing the performance. I find your reactions to be honest and interesting.

I think you are ready for….more from that same stage in Sochi, New Wave, ….Love Is Like A Dream …. And Unforgettable Day at Gakku, written and composed by Dimash and his dad when he was just 15.
Dimash’s loooong breaths come from much hard work in underwater swim training, which he still does daily wherever he goes.
In his day to days, he is found singing on and off everywhere, and still trains daily up to 3 hours and still visits tutors.
Then, as well, he is always in the involvement of more musical and compositional studies, heading into more degrees, etc.
He lives and breathes music, and loves to do so. And he humbly loves and acknowledges his fans and audiences and musical team and associates which feeds his craving to be onstage.

Yes. Chest vs. Diaphragm. You can take a "catch" breath w the chest to bridge gaps in phrasing- but it's sloppy & demonstrates poor technique. The Diaphragm is the dynamo of 🫁 power. At the beginning sounds an old Turkic stringed instrument called Kobys. It is probably the oldest bowed stringed instrument in the world and it spread to became the prototype of all European string instruments as violin an chello.
That and the use of the fa minor key in the composition gives the vibe of Middle East / oriental/ exotic sound.

    8/20/2021 STRANGER🇦🇫 ✈️
Could have been the anthem of the people trying to flee Afghanistan 🇦🇫🛫
Love the stumble🕺🏻he takes into the new land and looks👀 around Not very subtle choreography Dimash !😂
He then chooses to change and VOCALIZE the 2nd verse with the sounds of the “Voice’s of Afghanistan”🇦🇫🥺😲😮😯
    (Kabul, Men, Women & Children)?
    Last💨🎤🎶 over ⏱20 seconds
    Dimash & Igor 🎼🎹🎶
    Brilliant as ever!💖💝
🪕”We invited our talented friend Olzhas Qurmanbek to perform the kobyz part in “Stranger”, because he is considered the best kobyz player, who managed to fully convey the emotions and character of the song. Thanks to him the song got its outstanding and unique sound. I’ve always dreamed of the kobyz to sound in any of my foreign collabs,” 🪕🇰🇿 Dimash said.
That week 8/20,24,26/2021 Dimash was judging the New Wave competition in Sochi Russia. He sang 3 NEW ORIGINAL songs‼️

Whether or not it was intentional to be in such synchronization with the crisis in Afghanistan is beyond me 🤔🇦🇫
Maybe it’s further proof he’s from another world 🪐 with ⏰ travel
