    I am so glad I found your video. My light bulb actually came out and fell inside the tail light assembly. Imagine if I would've went to a dealership to get it out?? Charge me like crazy and probably laugh at me. But I decided to go to Wal Mart and buy a wrench set for less than $15. Took only 10 minutes to get everything right and save a whole lot of money. Thanks man!!

    Mine weren't on very tight either, leading me to believe that the factory didn't want to risk breaking the assembly due to over torqueing the fasteners. During reassembly I just snugged them down.

      Richard Lloyd omg talk about synchronization! I am researching the led bulbs right now! Did you know LED rear brake light improves the braking reaction of the person in back of you back a fraction of a second but that fraction of a second added up to 19 feet at highway speeds! check out this quote from this quote from the NTHSA "Note that a 200 ms
      improvement in braking response time is equivalent to a 19.1 feet reduction in stopping distance at a speed of 65 MPH".

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  10 лет назад +2

      Digme Ahole I could see that as possible as an LED bulb will come to full brightness quicker than an incandescent bulb. The LED bulbs will also use less energy, run cooler and last much longer than the traditional bulbs. I have ordered various LED bulbs from Amazon which should be arriving soon. I will be testing the LED bulbs against the incandescent bulbs for brightness as well. Thanks

    so I changed out the light, pretty easy. except for the pin that holds it to the body. that broke off. can I replace that myself, or just drive a flathead screw in?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  7 лет назад +2

      I would not recommend that you use a flat head screw. It may cause damage and corrosion. Order the clip from Hyundai or get one at your local junk yard. Trust me it will work correctly and you will be happier with the result. Thanks. BTW you can put the lens in temporarily without the clip to still drive the car. Put a piece of tape over the contact surface were the clip would normally be to protect the paint from scratching. But replace the clip. Without the clip the lens is susceptible to breaking, especially in car washes, so avoid those till you fix it. Thanks.

      Unfortunately the "lenses" are sold as complete sealed units so that they will be weather resistant to avoid water damage to the electrical components and to keep the interior of the car dry. If you are looking for a cheaper source call your local junk yard and see if they have any 2008 Elantras that you can harvest one from and make sure you ask what the price will be before you go. Thanks.

    Hi, I have an issue with both of my tail lights. Both of the brake light bulbs blew out and melted in the socket. Dealership is charging $186 a piece. Not sure if this is an electrical problem or not.

      For $186 a piece I would say the dealer owes you an explanation. Thank you for watching, commenting and the valuable feedback. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.

      The sonatas 2011-2014 can be really tricky when it comes to taillight's. This is due to them having so many damn lights back there. They burn and fail really fast. My rear right tail light used to always turn off because of a bad connection in the wiring. This is easily fixable by just taking an hour or two in a garage and going through some of the wiring to find where the problem is. Go to AutoZone and buy a wire cutter/stripper, some extra wire, and electric tape and some butt connectors if you want to make it very clean. And just redo whatever wire is messed up. I changed my brake light bulbs to some that don't require as much power and I've been good for about a month.

      Those are called Trim Panel Retainers or Door panel retainers. You can buy them at Amazon: amzn.to/29XUmcd Not sure which ones are the correct ones for the lens but you I believe the one I linked to will work. I no longer have the car to verify if it's the right one. You can have a look at the other retainer to verify what it looks like. Take a picture of it and compare to what's available. BTW most automotive parts stores sell them. BTW even Walmart carries a limited amount of them. Thanks.

    The 2010 (so I am assuming the 2007-2010 models) are changed the same way, the assembly just looks different.

    I have a 2011 Elantra. I continue to have issues with brake lights blowing out. I am missing the rubber gasket on my tail light assembly. Plus two of the NUTS are missing. Would there not being a rubber seal create a problem with light bulbs blowing out? Plus I heard not wearing gloves and replacing bulbs would blow light bulbs out because of moisture from your hands. I would hope that these issues would be the cause instead of a short some where. thank you in advance.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  8 лет назад +1

      On the rear lights the moisture and oil on your hands are not as big an issue as it is on the headlight bulbs as they do not get as hot. What usually causes them to blow is moisture. short circuits and vibration. The rubber being missing as well as the missing nuts could easily be a factor in moisture and vibration. I would address those issues first and move on from there if it does not fix your problem. Thanks.
