Got this interface/mixer since release to upgrade my USB Q2U to XLR and I'm very happy. Looked forward to your video to double-check my decision of buying it. 10/10 :D Thanks for the video, Bandrew!
this was a product I expected to be somewhat underwhelmed by compared to other interfaces at it's price range.... but... honestly.... this fits the use case it was designed for incredibly well. I personally need a more flexible interface from an I/O standpoint, but even with my additional needs for a combo of voice over and playing with instruments this is something I would consider as a pure streaming tool if I was making an income in that area and wanted to be able to store stream settings (for the combos of in ear/stream mixing) and a (good) mute button. So, well done elgato on a decently made very specifically targeted product.
Something people should know is that there is audio bugs even with the 1.3 version of the software. 1.2.1 is a decent work around till it's fixed. Basically, it's constantly resetting your windows audio. Streaming music, saved music, youtube, all unable to even attempt to play. Constantly loading or just straight says "Unable to play the audio". Saved audio just kept restarting @ 0.01 into any given song.
I wish this had two XLR inputs! I would love to just have VST support & with TWO microphones utilizing the 9 channels to produce podcasts without all that extra gear. WOW. This would have made it a killer in the podcasting industry. Elgato is definitely getting a lot of things right though
There's just ONE vital thing this needs is the ability to let each audio device hear the whole mix MINUS that channel - very handy if you are taking a "caller" via any number of sources.
I hope Elgato is making a full but small mixer with the Elgato Wavelink software. 2 XLR/combination ports, line in, monitor out, etc. I think they might be able to sell quite a few at the $300 price range.

If I didn't have the goxlr mini this would be absolutely perfect for me, I don't stream often but the volume controls and mixes are so nice for day to day use.
16:15 As someone whose primary home mic usage is for remote work Conferencing, Presentation, and general voice communication with some side streaming mixed in, a physical mute button is pretty much mandatory. I've been dying to replace my Blue Yeti for a long time, but because of my use nature, I was having a hard time finding an interface that would fit into my use-case. This looks like *THE* interface I needed. That capacitive touch, fade-in/fade-out mute feature is probably my highest priority, and knowing that it has the amps to run even an SM7b means I can keep my setup nice and simple. Ended up getting this interface. The built-in zero-latency monitor has a very strange sound to it and does not give a good representation of what your recording will sound like. In the end, probably good enough for streaming, but the monitor is not very good at giving you an idea how your recording will sound.

I really like this device in all honesty, but when all is said and done I feel like Elgato released this to specifically monetize their Wave Link software for alot more money than they normally would have been able to. With either the Wave 1 or Wave 3 mics, the software would let you use your own mic if you added it. The software is so good, just wish they could sell it separately lol. If I want to use the software with my own mic, I gotta buy a piece of hardware still? Come on maaaaan lol. All that aside, I'm glad they released this still. A step in the right direction.
What I like the most about this is that I don't need to get a cloudlifter for my Sm7b since I didn't.have the budget for a cloudlifter and a Scarlett 2i2
if you ever did need an inline booster in the future, don't get the cloudlifter. May I suggest the DM1 Dynamite? It's half the price, offers slightly more gain than the cloudlifter, and most people feel it is as, or more transparent than the cloudlifter. it's fairly new and made by a lesser known company, bu they can be found on Amazon. It works great. makes my RE20 sound so much better. Plus they are made to look like dynamite :p
For a push to talk/push to mute pedal, I've been using this "throne pedal" because it has very little "clip" when you engage it. Those push to talk/push to mute pedals on Amazon all have very audible clip sounds when you engage their switch.
For me it looks like the one button control could cause mistakes and confusion, but the computer interface looks good. Still it is not a future proof item. Once you need more inputs you will buy something else and this will sit on the shelf or get sold for half what you paid for it.
I have a Yamaha mixer with combo jack inputs. I like running everything into the mixer, including Shure SM7Bs and Shure Super 55 Deluxes, then out into the Wave XLR for clip guard.

16:25 If you have a stream deck there is a cool plugin in it that can mute the Microphone input or any input / output device that you select in the settings. I use that to mute my mic.

As I have a Heil PR40 and am looking for a high gain interface for Zoom meetings, this seems perfect. Thanks for a great review. Any tips using it with Zoom would be great.
Not really much to review. And if you need setup guides, there is a lot of them on youtube. Voicemeter has been the cheap solution for a software mixer with multiple channels on PC. But its wonky, and I wouldnt trust it fully if you depend on it to make money. Seems even Elgato have some issues with their software, depending on the version you are running. Goxlr has also tried their own on making a software mixer, and for the most part its stable, but still not 100%.
If your gonna be streaming, gaming, or using voice chat this is the one. but if your doing more advanced things like music production or audio engineering or using studio monitors the audient evo is what you would want.
I think the Wave XLR is horrible. It has a high noise floor once you reach 50db of gain and the mic monitoring is terrible and the headphone audio volume is not very good too. You have to compromise on mic monitoring volume in order to get more volume for your headphones. You can't have both as if the amp is being shared between the headphones and the microphone. I used a Shure MV7 and a Shure SM7b on both the Wave XLR and the GO XLR and the Go XLR blows the Wave XLr out of the water. The Go XLR creates a so much cleaner sound and there's zero noise floor on the Go XLR. I ended up returning the Wave XLR and purchased a Go XLR Mini instead. I don't know if i was just using it wrong but I much prefer the Go XLR.
I appreciate your comment. I've been looking at this, some reviews on amazon say hissing, latency, etc. After a ton of reading, you are saying pretty close to what I was coming to the conclusion of.
@Christopher Reid I'm going to have to read those reviews on Amazon, too. I'm still very much enjoying the GoXLR and GoXLR mini. They're tough to beat in this space, even with Beacn's new highly anticipated USB mic and mixer.
Eeeey, I have a physical mute for similar reasons, but mine is a pedal. Mine needs to be held, but it also can be set to pust-to-talk mode with a switch.
There's a constant bass hum/buzz throughout this video... maybe around 60Hz? Did nobody else notice? I think it was a fan or something in your room but it made me think for a while there was 60Hz mains hum being picked up somehow by the interface, which wouldn't make any sense at all.
Hello Sir!! I love the way you deliver your videos...nice and nitty gritty!! Which interface would you recommend a mere mortal to use for recording music, of course, and that can intergrate with OBS to feed Zoom/Skype/ Meet etc. that is to say; something that can route music, video and online media (RUclips?). I teach online and have to put audio and video into the lessons....yes...I want it all!! The waveXLR only does one of these and seems to do it well...I had an excellent interface but it decided to move on to monitor heaven RIP it was really good although old.....I nearly forgot!! it needs enough power to run a dynamic Mic as well as Condensor of course. At the moment my interface died I rushed out and bought a cheap interface I thourght would get me through the crisis (Presonus Audiobox 96) it's mane is all I have to say about that paper weight...Thanks for your vids even if you don't answer....at least noboby else has...Life as a mere mortal I suppose.
UPDATE: You can now use VST 2 AND 3 Plugins for all ur mics ! :D Im using this interface with a Shure SM58 and VST2 plugins from ReaPlugs :) So awesome !
i just got the shure sm7b. between wave xlr and focusrite 2i2 which one have the clearest sound without a cloudfliter? i'm worry about high background noise and hissing 😞
The interface will have zero impact on your ambient room noise. The preamp noise between the two interfaces appears to be about 2dBA, but technically the focusrite appears to have a slightly lower preamp noise floor. I recommend checking this video at the timestamp where Julian has a graphic showing the preamp performance in context. Hope that helps: ruclips.net/video/kxl9_vMQWnI/видео.html
heya Mister podcastage! i'm wondering if i should get the sm7db or sm7b for this elagto wave xlr, since it seems pretty user friendly, and i'm not that knowledgeable on all the buttons some xlrs have! i just wanna use it to stream, and do fun voice over, as an upgrade to my 10 yr old rode nt usb, i wanna get a dynamic so that background and side audio doesnt pick up as much noise.
Just wait until you hear about all the unnecessary outboard gear I bought like preamps, compressors, gates, and limiters; all of which can be done on the computer. Do you know what’s even better. I really only use all of it for discord.
My problem is that my stream mix part (stream output), will not work at all. I get no sound there and when I try to stream I cant hear anything. Can anyone help me with this?
I like that they're adding the no-clipping features to these now, but this looks a bit... gimmicky. Clicking the big button to move between the 3 main features just makes me think... why not just give us 3 buttons/dials? Gimmicky. Trying to make it look simple and easy makes it a bit more difficult and slower.

DBX 286 with a USB interface and we'd come closer to the magical one-with-everything box for real.
Have you ever done/considered a review of Voicemeter?
Not really much to review. And if you need setup guides, there is a lot of them on youtube. Voicemeter has been the cheap solution for a software mixer with multiple channels on PC. But its wonky, and I wouldnt trust it fully if you depend on it to make money. Seems even Elgato have some issues with their software, depending on the version you are running. Goxlr has also tried their own on making a software mixer, and for the most part its stable, but still not 100%.
I am now stuck between the audient evo 4 and this...
If your gonna be streaming, gaming, or using voice chat this is the one. but if your doing more advanced things like music production or audio engineering or using studio monitors the audient evo is what you would want.
@@chocolatemooki4172 Thank you!
Audient evo 4 is cheaper with almost the same feature
And evo 4 is even better because it's not only for stream
Please review the Presonus Revelator IO
Does the Wave XLR have good AMP in it for use with something like Audio Technica M50X?

I had no problem driving HD650's with it which are harder to drive than M50x.
Eeeey, I have a physical mute for similar reasons, but mine is a pedal. Mine needs to be held, but it also can be set to pust-to-talk mode with a switch.
so the mic monitoring is not zero latency? you mention there was a delay
Good catch
Woah woah we can’t just ignore that banger of a song you played at 14:12 Lmfaoo wtf yo what song is that??
It’s a song i wrote for a buddies stream intro. Don’t know if they still use it or not.
@@Podcastagerelease it pleaseeeee
Nice
Can you make a comparison of the microphone Rode nt1 and Neuman tlm 102
What would be better for recording vocals?
Thank you!
What is the name of the jam at 13:47 (or 14:11)? It slaps like crazy and I need it!
Is this a good interface for the RODE NTG3? If not, what would you recommend?
UPDATE: You can now use VST 2 AND 3 Plugins for all ur mics ! :D Im using this interface with a Shure SM58 and VST2 plugins from ReaPlugs :) So awesome !
would personally recommend a scarlett solo gen3 for the price.
i just got the shure sm7b. between wave xlr and focusrite 2i2 which one have the clearest sound without a cloudfliter? i'm worry about high background noise and hissing 😞
@@Podcastage thanks probably if i get the scarlet solo i can add a cloudfilter in the future. btw that video is gold.
New podcast from Geeks Rising - ASMR with Bandrew!
NEVER!
heya Mister podcastage! i'm wondering if i should get the sm7db or sm7b for this elagto wave xlr, since it seems pretty user friendly, and i'm not that knowledgeable on all the buttons some xlrs have! i just wanna use it to stream, and do fun voice over, as an upgrade to my 10 yr old rode nt usb, i wanna get a dynamic so that background and side audio doesnt pick up as much noise.
Thank you!
You bought a physical mute button for discord? You can hotkey mute to a button on your keyboard my dude. Like F8 or something
Just wait until you hear about all the unnecessary outboard gear I bought like preamps, compressors, gates, and limiters; all of which can be done on the computer. Do you know what’s even better. I really only use all of it for discord.
@@Podcastage you MONSTER!!!
@@Podcastage 👏👏👏🥳🥳🥳👌👌👌🥰🥰🥰
My problem is that my stream mix part (stream output), will not work at all. I get no sound there and when I try to stream I cant hear anything. Can anyone help me with this?
I need 3 mixes, headphone, stream mix, and mix for the podcast guests.
stream deck is good for handling multiple outputs at the tip of your fingers. Just gotta program em in.
@@JunkBondTrader I don't think that's an audio interference. Isn't it just a controller?
I like that they're adding the no-clipping features to these now, but this looks a bit... gimmicky. Clicking the big button to move between the 3 main features just makes me think... why not just give us 3 buttons/dials? Gimmicky. Trying to make it look simple and easy makes it a bit more difficult and slower.
Please take a review of budget dynamic mic JBL CSH10
Great review. For virtual audio mixing I will still use Voicemeeter Potato. Can I use the Wave software only for clipguard and route Wave link audio inside voicemeeter?
It's not as bad as I expected, but they could have easily priced this at $75.
I'd much rather buy an Audient Evo 4
Same it's basically the same as audient evo 4, and evo 4 also cheaper better get those than this
