  • Welcome to another video!
    First off, this is a very long video, but since this was all just 1 trip I didn't feel right about splitting it up.
    I'd love some feedback on if all of you enjoy these longer video's, or if you'd rather have me split it up? On this one I just based it on my own watching habits, and figured it could be watched over a stretch of time rather than 1 sitting.
    With that said, this was an absolute perfect day. I found so many fun agates, jasper agates, jasper, petrified wood and a piece of chert.
    The agates especially are so fun. A lot have banding, crystal pockets, nodules, some you can tell there's something inside, colors, all on the beautiful Oregon coast. Doesn't get much better!
    I will make a separate video about all the stuff I found today, because there's a lot to look at, too much for this already long video.
    Stay tuned for that!
    Thank you all for watching!
    Tot de volgende keer
    (Until next time)

    When I was a kid in the '60s, my family, on yearly vacations, combed the Oregon beaches from Astoria to Bookings. We would bring home multiple 5-gallon buckets of agate. On one vacation, I also scored five glass floats, one of which was 8". I still have them today.

  • @lynneftw
    @lynneftw 2 месяца назад +1

    Over my lifetime, I must have walked over thousands of agates. Growing up in Texas, I always saw quartz "rocks," so I guess I was used to them, and felt that agates must have been the same thing. Zero interest, lol. I still don't quite understand the fascination with hunting them (I have lived in opal, star garnet, and thunder egg country for 23 years now). What draws you to looking for agates, and what do you end up doing with them? Some people just collect for fun, some sell, some polish or tumble or cut them. What's your deal?

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  2 месяца назад

      Thank you for your comment. I like how most of them are different in some way, either in color, banding pattern or type (nodule, vein, even geode). I don't do much with them yet, clean them up, put a coating of mineral oil on them and sort them by size to look at. When I started it gave me a reason to get out, go to a beautiful beach, go to a peaceful creek/river. Then I made my first video, since I already made gardening videos, and turned out people liked to watch them, so here we are today. Thank you for watching!

      However, if you're wanting to get into rockhounding look for beaches where the tide gets to gravel/where new gravel is deposited because it can change from day to day. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

      Thank you for asking nicely. I found this beach driving down the 101, which wasn't on some website. So unfortunately because of that I keep this one to myself. When looking for a spot find a beach that has gravel, that gets hit by the tide. That's all you really need to find agates on the west coast. Notable beaches are around Pacific City, Lincoln City and Tillamook. I hope it helps!

  • @brianchong4134
    @brianchong4134 10 месяцев назад +2

    I know the location is being held very secret and i respect that, but are you willing to say if youre north or south of Lincoln City? I'm watching this vid with my son and he wants to jump in the car immediately. We're in Hillsboro.

      Lincoln city is a Great spot!

    • @DutchmansAgates
      @DutchmansAgates  9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for respecting that. It's further south, but just know that any beach with gravel that gets hit by the tide should be a good agate spot along the Oregon coast. Lincoln city as Carey suggested is also a good spot. :)

      This is what I often refer to as my "favorite spot" in my video's, because it is. But this is one I'd like to keep to myself.
      With that said, when you're looking for a beach containing agates, look for the ones that have gravel on them. Especially gravel beaches where the ocean reaches the gravel during high tide. That allows the ocean to stir up and deposit agates, amongst other rocks.
      I hope that helps.

    Love all the beautiful agates and the jasper!! I dislike the way you take the Lord's name in vain! He's the reason you are able to find all the beauties. And hearing you constantly invoking his name makes me cringe. In my view, hes name should be used reverently and lovingly not as a drop phrase all the time. Do love the vid tho! Thanks!
