A big area with sand dunes shaped by the wind, trees, heath and still wild! And well preserved.
Fun fact: the Efteling thanks its name to the village that was once here but 'disappeared' under the sand.

@@ItsCharlieVest If you are interested: You can find four completely different landscapes over a short distance of only twenty to thirty miles.
      - Big rivers, wide, slowly flowing through endless lowlands. Farms with long stretching lands towards the river.
      - Sand dunes with forest of oak and pine, dry heath, and a very different flora and fauna.
      - Wet lands, where the water can only infiltrate into the sandy soil of the dunes, again with other kind of farming.

As an old Dutch man who lived his whole life pretty close to the "Efteling", i have seen it grow from a children playground to the park it is now.
It started out (as i know it, because i'm not THAT old lol) as a kids playground with all kind of swings and slides, a huge pond where we could swim and get to row in a rowboat, a fairy tale area "sprookjesbos" where fairy tales came to life and a square called "Anton Piek plein".
When i was a child we were there often because it really was a place for kids to have the time of their life (and in those day's there wasn't much money). It began to expand because more and more people would go there and they could make huge amounts of money out of it.
In my experience, it WAS a cheap way of having a great family day when i was a little boy. Now the park has expanded to a pretty big themepark and prizes are as big as the park is ( i probably shouldn't say this, but it's almost criminal ). But i have to admit that it is still a magical and fun place to go to where you can have a great time, just bring all your savings with you lol.
As for the expansion of the park, Yes, all this used to be forest and dunes. Still there is a lot of forest around the park and the wildlife moved more or less to the "Loonse en Drunese duinen". It's located in the vicinity of the Efteling and is a wildlife reserve, so not to much worry about that. City's expand, nothing you can do about it. We live in a tiny little country with over 17 million people.
As i look at the "Efteling" now, it has grown into an huge moneymaking park where a lot of people have found a job and so it's good for the economy.
I still wish it could have stayed the way i remember it, but that's an old mans memory lol.
If you want to have a great time and have money to spare, you really need to come to the "Efteling".

The Efteling still wears the title "nature park" they lose this title if they more than 11% is used for something that's not nature related (so rules/laws about having the nature park title state ar least 89% needs to stay trees and bushes) also for every tree cut down an other one (or more) is planted and of course things need to stay safe if you get millions of visitors

10:32 the sound you hear is a safety mechanism that is working as intended, the clicking noisce can be heard by almost evry roller coaster, the mechanism prevents the train rolling backwards may the train stop at the lift hillm every click is proof that the little pins under the train are in the little slots on the lifthill

Apparently Walt Disney visited De Efteling in the 1950's when he was developing the first Disney Land Theme Park. It used to be mostly a green park with like fairytales in there... inspired and I believe also designed by Dutchman Anton Pieck (look up his artwork) ... then from the early 80's it also got like rollercoasters etc... The Python was then introduced.

My beautiful, wonderful home park. Great theming. The experience starts when you park your car. The feeling of walking up to the house of the five senses with the music in the background is amazing, yet just a taste of what the day will have to offer. Good coasters for most of the family to enjoy, with great theming and storytelling. Masterclass darkrides (except for Carnaval Festival [not my cup of tea]). Lush and green forests. Fairy tale forest is fun for young and old and is the park's core (I spent nearly two hours there on my last visit). There are also other awesome scenic attractions like Villa Volta. I love the park's scale and I love walking from one attraction to the next. As the showbuildings look phenomenal and the coasters are enjoyable to watch offride (especially Baron). As an experience and total package, Efteling is basically heaven.

There are already comments about the Python being the first coaster so I don't need to tell you that. But I jave another fun facr which almost nobody knows, learned it from my mothers nephew who was the ceo of the Efteling for years. Yeah free admission ;).
The Efteling hasn't just a hotel but also 2 different bungalow parcs and a special house where people with terminal sick or disabled children can stay to visit the parc. They only got building permissions for the bungalow parcs, which are build near and in the nature reserve next to the Efteling, if they agreed to maintain large parts of the nature reserve. The Efteling now maintains, at their own costs, about 75%of the forest, heath and moorlands in Kaatsheuvel.

5:00 so, they actually went out of their way to go to the main entrance. The hotel is all the way on the other side of the park and has it's own small entrance where you can enter the park half an hour earlier than regular guests. I have to say though, that entrance is not cool at all, while the main entrance is amazing.
8:00 actually the Efteling itself started as a 12 ha big sports park. The area around Efteling is still a nature reserve. The pagoda is the highest thing they're allowed to have because of this (skyline pollution) and they can't just keep expanding the park either. The park itself is very green for an amusement park as well, a large portion being the fairy tale forest, which makes it a much nicer place to be than other amusement parks.
9:00 Fata Morgana is one of the older attractions, opened in 1986. All the "animatronics" are done with tensioned wires of which the amount of pull is regulated by wheels which have the desired movement depth cut out of their circumference. No robotics.
10:00 Python was the first non-fairy tale forest attraction build in 1981. By todays standards the two loops and a corkscrew is a small roller coaster, but at the time of opening it was the largest in Europe. And yes, the wooden coasters came much later than Python.
12:15 dude, you actually pronounced stroopwafels correctly. Never heard an English speaker manage that before. Well done!
13:00 there was actually a TV series produced by Efteling to build up a story behind Raveleijn, with a bunch of kids going through a portal that sends them back in time and transforms them into full grown knights who have to save the village from dark magic. I felt the show itself was rather bland really, but when I watched it they hadn't done it very long yet and the choreography wasn't very well done. I hear they've updated the show since then. What I do love however is how Efteling always theme's everything to death. Look at the background of the Ravelijn area. That's actually the office space of the Efteling, but themed on the outside to look like a medieval village.

The Efteling exists 70 years, and moreover it's nature with the theme park in it. The,Efteling finds it really important to keep very much green, loads of big trees, bushes, flowers etc. You see lots of animals, squirrels, birds, ducks, fish etc etc. Believe me, if you want to enjoy nature, the Efteling is the place to be. I love your video's, gonna check out your video's on your Dutch Classes soon. Keep it up, loving it👍❤️
Forgot to tell you, I have a subscription to the Efteling, and I try to go there twice a month, to get a good walk in and to enjoy nature, and some of the funrides. I always love walking through the Fairytale Forrest, and have a few stops and enjoy the way kids react to the features, especially the dragon, love how the little ones react 😱🤣😂. I live in a city named Tilburg, if I take the bus just outside my street, it takes me 10 minute busride and I'm there. Lucky me

Interesting that you mention the sound the roller coaster makes when going up is worrying you, because that is actually what makes it safe. The coaster is being pulled up by a chain, and the rattling sound is sort of a hook that pushes down on a cogged rail, which you hear dropping after every cog, and that is meant to prevent the coaster from rolling backward if the chain would break. So it would be better to worry if you don't hear it.

Don't worrie about the parc, mate.
Efteling is bound by very strict contracts, which dictates that ( I think it is 80%) of all ground must remain "parc" ..
So even tho it's an amusment parc, they can not fill it all up with coasters and rides. ( if they wanted to)
This is why the parc remains "green" all around.

That "sound" you keep attributing to failure, is a safety device to stop rollbacks when the pulling mechanism fails.

The Efteling might seem nice on the outside but it's a hell for the people that work there. I've worked there for 3 months and boy oh boy was i happy to leave. It's underpaid, has a bad work environment and you're literally treated like s**t. It's not only me that feels this way, it was all of my colleagues that had the same experience.

Pleaae tell me you are going to the efteling and your gonna 'vlog' it. It doesn't have to be like this. But maybe make some kind of reaction video to your own footage and tell us what you thought. We, as a family, have the tradition to go to the efteling every year (which I've still continued with my girlfriend) and every year when driving up the parking lot watching 'de 5 zintuigen' (the entrance building) we still get overly excited!
