  • On Saturday 22nd July, V-Sprint Cycle Club hosted an exclusive Hill Climb event on the prestigious Prescott Hill Climb road course in Gloucestershire, all in aid of supporting the Club’s efforts to raise money for Cure Leukaemia.
Riders braved the typical July weather and took on this unique challenge in very wet and challenging conditions. Kirstin Bamford (Bath CC) was the fastest lady with a time of 2 minutes 25 seconds, and Ben Millar (Primera-TeamJobs) was the fastest man and fastest overall on the day with an epic time of 1 minute 53 seconds, the only rider to conquer the climb in under 2 minutes! Both winners very generously (and without hesitation) donated all of their winnings to Cure Leukaemia.
Thanks to the generous support of The Bugatti Owners club, this inaugural event - which we hope to run again in the future - was a huge success and helped Club V-Sprint raise more than £500 for Cure Leukaemia.
Club V-Sprint is a community road cycling club based in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, founded by James Varnish, former Cycle Speedway World Champion and father of former European Track Champion Jess Varnish.
In 2020 the Club started a charity fundraising journey which this year we hope will reach £100,000.
In September 2023, three Club riders will take on Cure Leukaemia’s “Tour of the TAP”, with each rider aiming to raise £5,000 for a Club total of at least £15,000 combined. The team will ride around one hundred miles every day for ten consecutive days across Britain, travelling over 1,000 miles total, and visiting each of the Cure Leukaemia Trial Acceleration Programme (TAP) centres on the journey.

I am a Leukemia Survivor (APL) and I absolutely thank you from the bottom of my heart. Give Blood, Save Lives! I’m pretty sure it’s ok that I say THANK YOU, in all caps, because I am yelling it 😊. 8 months in patient at Moffitt Cancer Center (USA), three rounds of Cytarabine and Daunorubicin but I made it. God bless you all that participated.

I rode this today, thanks for putting this up! And thanks to V-Sprint and Prescott for hosting us, it was an honour to cycle a legendary hill climb!

Thank you for riding. I was one of the lucky ones that made it through (APL, exposed by industrial sources 🫤). That being said, many in my time there did not, so until we find a cure, it takes people like you to help (over 750 blood transfusions/no bone marrow transplant thank the lord).
