Later on when she got older if she crossed path with any of them, she would befriend them. She wasn't the greatest singer but she had a pretty good voice. Her voice was really underrated. When she was lead singer with the supremes, she had this smooth silky voice and the way she moved her body movements and her lips and her facial was so seductive. You couldn't take your eyes off her. The best stage presence ever.
I'm so glad you made that distinction. Indeed Patti Gladys Mariah Whitney ect may have had much better voices, absolutely none of them had the stage presence of Diana Ross...the other women had to sing when they gave a live concert...all Diana had to do was walk on stage and the audience was thrilled...they wanted to see what she was wearing, how she moved, they wanted to see her go into the audience... back in the day there were only three women who were the best in live concerts, that was Diana Ross, Cher and Bette Midler...they gave you a live performance... Barbara Streisand was smart enough to know she could not compete in that way which is why she almost never did the concert tour route back then...she had the voice but not the live stage presence or persona of Cher and Diana...and that's why today just one of Diana's many estates is worth more than the total net worth of most of the other singers... Diana wasn't just a voice and performer, she was and is a very shrewd business woman, very intelligent...

you cant be as gracious and as flattering as Patti was at the end, if you're not confident about your own talent. Ive seen Patti a lot over the yrs, going back to when her and Nona/Sarah, were on their Nightbirds tour (1975)...and I came close to seeing Diana live, when she pulled together a "reunion tour" in 2001, I think it was...but it never came to fruition, and I lost that chance. But to say Im big fans of both is an understatement. It doesnt surprise me that they 'made up'...they were practically girls, when their respective groups were rivals. These are grown-ass women now, who have made a ton of money, global fame, won awards and are literally bridges to a time when black singers, male and female, werent making any money to speak of..and they sang to earn money for travel and food. They should be applauded for enduring and blazing paths for the Mariah Careys and Jennifer Hudsons.

The gold suit was pretty bad, but it was just one small story repeated over and over. Labelle didn't seem that pressed about it really and seemed to only say that story because it was like the only story she had about Diana Ross back then. She was otherwise very respectful.
