My dudes: excellent, excellent work on this video. You're really helping the tennis community big time. I keep falling over to my left when I serve, and I hope this helps me correct that!
This was a fun video! Good mix of random stupid crap with really solid information. Loved the very last thing one bounce-split. No one practices getting ready for the next ball when doing "serve" practice! Maybe I should start doing this? I have a big serve for my level, but often get beat by a weak return I am not ready for. Good stuff.
This video was excellent. 2 years ago I sucked at serves (started with tennis), I checked a lot of how to videos but the way you explained the leg drive is spot on. It's funny for the last six month I have been practising the serve on the recreational tennis club. I'm the only guy who goes there on my own to practice. I love to do it because I see myself improving, but still need the good confidence for my first serve in matches. Funny thing, heard a woman behind my back say : ''Isn't he weird? He practices his serves on his own''. I thought, yes to beat personalities like you with a smile.
I'm in the beginning of my tennis journey. I often go to the tennis court alone, making videos of myself during practicing serves, one handed backhand and forhand, and analyse them at home. I don't give a shit who thinks this is weird thing. 🙂
You should always mention, that a loose arm is necessary in order to transfer the energy from the leg drive, hip rotation and shoulder rotation into the swinging motion.
He said you have to relax and not try to muscle the ball. That would infer a relaxed arm; not enough time to mention everything in one video. That's why he does separate videos on different elements of a stroke.
Your Power Tilt idea is something I don't recall seeing mentioned elsewhere. I tried it this morning while practicing my serves and kept track of how many went in. More serves went in when I used the power tilt. Many of my serves were going long before using this idea. Thanks!
Wow ever since I watched this video, my serve has improved so much. Before I watched this, my serves were not very consistent and had very less power. My serve is now very consistent and now has more power than before. Thanks for making this!!
Can you comment on how Roger's feet on ground warm up serves he walks forward with this front leg instead of having the back leg come around? I'm guessing that is to help more with moving forward or that tilt you guys mentioned?
Sometimes he is only practicing his swing rhythm and wants to keep jumping/feet out of the equation. To not have to change the toss for this he is stepping in the the left foot to get under the ball
The utilization of the leg muscles in serve mechanics increases tennis racquet momentum. Unfortunately the largest momentum transfer to the body occurred long before the racquet and ball contact. It is worth noting that the upper body stretching phase during the service lift-off phase contributes greatly to racquet momentum and balance. A stretched muscle and muscle group prior to contraction results in a stronger contraction.
I always jump in a weird way and jumped got he right eventually and right leg is up to the right not to the up, kinda looks weird, do you know how to fix it?
Roger has pretty good hops, but the feet get so high off the ground because of the trunk bend. It would interesting to see how much his c.g. goes up compared to his feet. Wawrinka on the other hand has limited trunk bend. BTW, looks like you are at about 105 mph plus or minus a few mph based on where the ball hits the fence. You really can’t hit the Battistone serve without a double handle racquet.😉
Where is the weight distribution as you bend your knees? Is it on the back foot or on the front foot because the trophy position has the weight on the front foot
I enjoyed the video. Just wanted to ask is the racquet arm being pulled by the unwinding of the hips. In that you do not move the arm independently but it moves as a result of the unwinding motion.
Great question rharrell1! Most of the force of your racquet drop should come from your hip and torso accelerating. However, the independent movement from your shoulder driving upward and forward is helpful in positioning your arm at contact. I recommend focusing on "pulling your hitting elbow up" to create both this independent movement from your arm + acceleration from your trunk. I hope that helps! - Daytri & RacquetFlex
Great question, UD Racing! I recommend isolating the racquet drop when you're focusing on the coordination. Just start from the trophy position and working on timing your leg drive and racquet drop. If your hitting arm is in the right position as you load and unload your body, you should feel the flip happen naturally. Here's a recent video we released that may help you with the hitting arm action: ruclips.net/video/S10nJN2Y1og/видео.html Thanks for watching!
@@RacquetFlex I've got it in my racquet at the moment; lacks a little spin and feel compared to original Hyper G for me. You can feel the edges on it are pretty round. Unbelieveable longevity tho!
Okay that 50% seems pretty suspect. I was pretty sure it was known that Roddick could hit 120s without his feet leaving the ground, and I've felt that in my own serve, too. I can blast them just using my upper body, and only add an extra 15-20% with the legs.
Hey Johnny, great observation! The legs and hips don't necessarily need to leave the ground in order to be used. More commonly, players miss out on the power of the lower body because of unnecessary movement, a lack of balance, or ability to rotate their hips.
@@RacquetFlex Ahhh, okay. After watching your video, I was trying to pay more attention to the role of my legs on my grounded serves, and it does seem like the throw chain is still using the legs, even though there's no jump. I could definitely see 50% in that case.
Glad to help 😊 And thanks so much for extending the conversation because I did realize later that it was a bit unclear. Good luck on using the drills to incorporate it into your serve!

Thank you Daniel! Let me know how it goes 🙂
me too, thanks for the 5 steps serve practice
So you do drive the swing off the back leg or not? Both are said here.
COOL DUDES

super video with humour rolled in. Keep producing great content.
Thanks so much Dal! We have so much fun making these videos.

Epic video. Love it. Don’t know how you remember all the explanations. You make it look so easy.

i like how he didn't and just post a another thorough video on the loose arm in the serves, i prefer to soak up these information one by one

what is the MPH clocked on your average first serve?
awesome video! Can you talk a little bit about the feet themself sometimes? Mainly pinpoint vs platform?
They have a video on this already
Hi CoalYT, I think you'll enjoy this video we made on the serve stances: ruclips.net/video/JNP2y1GkC_Y/видео.html

Love you, awesome AWESOME video. Hate that you’re a lefty 😂
It really does come from the back foot on the platform. Sparse detail on the distribution here.

What's the science behind the dominant leg donkey kick at the end?
Not surprising when the best servers in the past were all serve-and-volleyers lol

What about the grip on the serve ?

You kept the bloopers.
Great video, but why do you serve left handed, then right handed? Twin??? I am confused.
day day, who did the editing? the mark number for drills is reversed, launch serve should be drill NO.3 and the Run-Through Serve should be drill No.4

at 7:00 you cover something critical and rarely explained properly. great video. thank you. love the hair. 😎
It’s quite amazing that as soon as you start doing the run-through the serve, you started to look like Sampras serving 😄
