  • here i talk about some of the best and worst things about vassar. i am 100 % honest in everything i've said. please don't hesitate to contact me on my instagram: @alittlebitofari_ or my snapchat @alittlebitofari or just send a comment below! royalty free music from Bensound !!! thanks for watching!!
    UPDATE 7/31
    I wanted to make a statement now that this video has been up for a few months. I want to make it clear that i had only been on campus for a semester and a half before the pandemic hit, so I have not been on campus long enough to experience the most holistic "vassar experience". a lot of things have come to light since this video was made. vassar, as a "selective post-secondary institution" is by nature a perpetrator of inequality and oppression. a lot of schools (even the most selective ones!) are guilty of violence against women, trans, and non-binary people, even more so people of color. that does not excuse vassar's behavior. especially as a liberal arts college, i believe vassar could definitely do better in dismantling its oppressive policies and behaviors. when colleges like vassar say they're "diverse" they mean "diverse" for a selective institution. and just because they are diverse for a selective institution does not mean that they are not perpetrators of violence. i do work for vassar as well as study there. but all views on this video and on this comment are my own and by no means do i speak for the college. vassar needs to step up and make this a safer place for marginalized communities. they should aim to act as a pioneer in the realm of education. i wanted to say this because although everything i expressed in this video still stands, a lot has happened. i will always stand with my marginalized queer/trans/bipoc communities in spite of my affiliations with vassar. thanks again.

    Are there multiple sections of pre-med courses that medical schools require to get into them every semester?
    How do professors handle athletes who travel for their sports, and thus miss labs or lectures? What is their makeup policy,, generally?
    Do TAs do the grading and fielding of emailed questions--a frequent occurrence my older child faces in online physics this semmer--or does the professor respond, grade the work, and give feedback beyond a grade?
    The open course work sounds great, but do counselors help one lay out the courses for four years in one's first choice of a major before the start of freshman year?
    Next, my older kids all went DIII or NAIA. Some of their sports over-recruited since moneys were awarded for need or academics only. One school recruited 70 kids for lacrosse then cut 50 when they and walkons showed for tryouts. Does Vassar recruit only those athletes likely to make the team?
    Lastly, how does foreign language proficiency get evaluated?

      hi zoe! if you mean specific things about my application then thats v complicated and i will probably make into a video once i finish finals. overall vassar accepts a lot of different kinds of people so i wouldnt say you need to fit a mold in order to be admitted. i would say as a whole challenge yourself academically but in the areas that you enjoy! extracurriculars are good and leadership always looks great. vassar also really loves creativity so if any activities showcase that then it's good. focus on your essays and make sure to illustrate the most important aspects of yourself and what you think makes you an amazing person.

    I want to major in film and philosophy but I don't want to get swamped by student debt. I want to go to a diverse school as well. That conservative administration you are talking about.....I just don't know.

    • @ariana9634
      @ariana9634  3 года назад +7

      Hi, in my opinion I think that if you want to study film and philosophy that can be done in a lot of places, Vassar or not. You want to go to a school where you feel culturally and emotionally supported. If you want a very diverse experience, I would say go to a school in a bigger city. And I also believe that it's not worth it going into a lot of student debt. I say apply where you think you will feel supported and make your final decision based on the amount of financial aid you get. Some schools like Vassar give a lot of aid if you have a high financial need, but I think money is a huge factor to consider.

      @@ariana9634 Thanks, I was looking for some perspective. Hofstra is another college I want to go to, it is super diverse but expensive, so I’m just trying to figure out what to do. There is also SUNY Oswego, but it is like 30 minutes from my house and I feel like I need to get farther away in order to grow. It’s a bit of a complicated decision..

    • @ariana9634
      @ariana9634  3 года назад +5

      It does get very cold at Vassar December-February. Remember though that you will have winter break where you are off for a month and a half and you can go home and escape the snow. You will need to invest in at least one really good coat for winter and a hat, but I have to say my experience hasn't been that bad.

      Vassar is in the Hudson Valley. The springs can see swings in temperature. About 10 years ago it was 90 plus during spring break (middle March). A few years back we got 2 feet of snow in April. Winters will be below freezing but won’t see many single digit days temp wise.

    • @ariana9634
      @ariana9634  4 года назад +7

      Catie Anne hi catie! most student social life revolves around student clubs and organizations which there are plenty of! there might be student performances and other events on campus. there is a mall nearby with a movie theater and a target that students go to a lot. we go out to eat and stuff like that too. if you're into outdoorsy stuff theres a lot of hiking trails and things like that. hope i answered your question!
