According to most filter manufacturers you should never use compressed air on an air cleaner. It can cause unseen damage to the paper. Just passing it on.

I have a 1200 Custom. With an Arlen Ness Stage 1(Stainless Steel). Took it off today to check the T-Body. Saw some oil inside. The T-Plate had some on it as well. Cleaned it. Put it back together with some Blue Tite on the Screws.

I never use oil filters on anything with a MAF. Apparently, the oil makes the sensor wires go caddywampus. IMHO Oil filters catch more particulates but have to be cleaned more often. Harleys eat oil vapor / oil through the return vents anyways.

What I never understood is, why does the highflow air filter take its air from the warm engine? Hot air is bad for your filler. Cold air can hold more mixture???.

Thanks for the HD air filter install. My pre owned 2014 ultra Classic came with stage one Harley filter , screaming eagle.
however, watching your install you removed the black bracket that's behind the filter. Mine was still attached, so I removed it last night. Tank off, ect. I'm hoping it didn't change my tune. Bike came with filter&V&H 2 INTO 1pro pipe. I added the V&H fp3.
I guess the answer is auto tune..
    What's you thought on this?

I have two bikes both with the K&N cleanable filters. As Ryan said, you want to rinse it from the inside out, I use a spray on solution of Simple green let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. To dry it I have a bolt that screws into the filter and then I clamp it in my cordless and take it outside and spin dry it. I have found that this works very well and is quick so you can get it back on and ride right away.

Most air filters for harley will last forever actually. The best way to clean them is to place them flat on the ground and fill the inside with gasoline several times and the inner gasoline pushes soil or even oil off of the outside. As long as the paper element doesnt get brittle, your good to go. But the marketing scam belief of on cars or bikes to change air and oil filter at same time, is only to marketers making money off of novice people.

Ryan I have a question for you my friend. So I have a heavy breather on my fxbb. Now I’m seeing a small leak from the top left bolt that secures the back plate and butts up to rocker box I believe. Is that possible to be leaking oil from that specific bolt??? if so is it pretty normal and is it an easy fix?

  • @davidfrank2824
    @davidfrank2824 4 года назад +3

I have to say I 100% believe what you said about working on your own bike. When I ordered my Harley it would not be delivered until almost six months after I place the order. Since the dealership had the new shop manual already in stock I picked one up. While waiting for my bike to come in and seeing it was winter I had plenty of time to go through everything. I'm not afraid of working on anything as long as I have a manual. My bike I only went to the dealership one time 16 years. Right after I had done my second oil change I noticed the bottom of the engine at oil all over it. Once I cleaned it up I went to the dealership. As soon as they entered the VIN number they told me that there was a repair order. With that particular year there was a known issue. The softails had a known issue for leaking. They claimed there was an error with the assembly of the motor. They missed a spot when sealing the case together. They told me it's covered under your warranty and that it would take about three weeks to fix. Since it was summer I asked them could I bring it back in the winter. They told me that's no problem just keep an eye on the oil. They had to take the whole engine apart and put it right back together again. Since it was winter they knocked it out in one week. That was my only issue knock on wood.
I am religious about oil changes. One Summer I was stuck in a horrible traffic jam. It was a hundred and five outside and I'm sitting on top of this engine. It was getting so hot that the heat was coming off of the heads and burning my legs through my blue jeans. I finally had to pull onto the shoulder and wait for traffic to clear up some. Once I was home safely I parked my bike in the garage ran up to the Harley dealer. I got everything to do an oil change. Everybody at the dealership we're very familiar with my wife and myself. When he was ringing me up he asked me why didn't you just do an oil change on your bike? I told him yes and explain to him what I just went through. He used to work in the service department before he was in parts. He told me that I was wasting money changing oil just because of how hot the engine had gotten up to. And he even said besides that you're still under warranty. And I told him in a nice way you do with your bike what you like and I would do what I like and I appreciate the advice.
I started off working on my Harley using a track with the wheels on it. A few years later I graduated to a left. I work on friends and families bikes mowers weed wackers pretty much anything with an engine. The only time I charge anybody is if I have to buy parts.
I'm glad I found your videos and look forward to watching more.

I cleaned mine @ 8,000 mi and could not see through a section of it, so I replaced it. Cheap insurance. Side note, the dealer did my 1,000 and 5,000 mi service. They overfilled the oil on that last service. I was going to let the dealer do the services while under warranty. That may change now. ‘21 FXLRS. Thanks !

What are your thoughts on a Coolflow fan from Harley Davidson, does the bike need to be flashed? I have a 2015 Ultra Limited low, Harley came out to fit bikes 2016 and back.

@@em2612 Hi! Thank you for you response, I watch your videos and enjoy them as well! They do help. The CoolFlow Fan HD P/N is 26800152. My bike is 2015 Ultra Limited Low. I understand about getting the bike flashed, for 2017 and newer, the fans were not available for my year of bike until late January 2019, This is where I'm confused, would the 2016 back to 2009 bikes ECM recognize the flashing of the fan, or is it just a hard wire with the dash switch for just of and on? It would be just like if Ryan would put one on his 2014 Street Glide. Again, Thanks! And your video's s helped me with learning more about my bike. Also, would you think of doing a video on this subject?

It allows for more air to enter the engine. More air, more fuel, more exhaust equals more horsepower.
