Ana Navarro "I think we need to learn history so that we don't repeat the same mistakes" 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Tell that to the IDF and their mass grave sites
This is dumb history doesn’t repeat itself more like it rhymes and do you people really think people are going to bring black slavery if you do thats just ridiculous
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” George Santayana. That’s why the teaching of ALL history is so important.
@@The_king567”You people”? Buy a history book and read it!
@@barbra7562 that isn’t true the past has literally almost never repeated itself more like it rhymes, you people should know that
"when you have had privilege for so long , equality feels like oppression" that part
Loved it....hope I remember it
My favorite quote 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
She really hit a home run. A touchdown. A mic drop. Brilliantly said.
Don't worry black people will soon realize to appreciate the privilege they have and no longer feel like there oppression because they are being treated as equals.
Which is the problem most black people have today when they are treated as an equal they scream oppression because they're used to special treatment.
Sunny was spot on with that quote.
I think feeling bad when hearing horrific history shows empathy, which is an important characteristic for humans to have. It’s OK to feel bad, so it doesn’t happen again. ☮️
And feeling bad is not the same as feeling guilty and people tend to think its the same
What Ana means is there's no reason anybody should feel bad *about themself* when learning about history.
I agree.
Being empathetic is one thing. White guilt is another. No one asked for it and it does nothing but center the feelings of White People and justify their rage and frustration. Be empathetic...Save the guilt, rage and frustration.
Thanks
Ana Navarro calling out the Republicans in the Republican Primary about Black history Republicans like Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Nikki Haley 💯
Yawn
She does that every single show. Hardly noteworthy.
That bch is not an actual republican
Ana is a fool & a lover of communism. Look at who she (D)efends & the posse she rolls with.
Whoopi is so spot on when you says that Black History is not simply black history but American history, the story is not complete without learning about the contributions of African Americans.
It’s also not complete without telling the fact that every slave state before the civil war was governed by a racist democrat. Those racist pro slavery democrats started the insurrection that led to the civil war. Same racist democrats we have today, led by racist klansman mentee Joe Biden.
well put!
I agree with Whoopie. I went to school at a time where even teaching about Malcolm X or seeing him in a positive light was controversial. People should learn about heroes/leaders/influential people who are POC
You did? Pray tell Were Did you go to school where they didn't teach about influential POC, leaders, heroes etc etc.? You weren't taught anything about Fredrick Douglas, Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver? Surely You were taught about MLK no? You appear to be around my age and I was taught about all those and more, My kids were also taught about these and even more, My nieces are currently being taught about them all, It's just weird that Suddenly We're all being told "I Didn't learn about Slavery" From people who attended school Yet I somehow did and know people Who did, Must be states like California or Idaho or something that refuses to teach about POC in any way shape or form.
Same for me. I graduated in 05 in NC. I was fortunate to read the Malcolm x biography in middle school but he was always taught of an after thought or not at all.
I didn’t learned much about Malcolm X in school. I learned from my stepdad, Jet and Ebony magazines and a local ABC tv show called Like It Is with Gil Noble.
Interesting they never have episodes on mixed race couples- isn’t Sunny from a white woman and black man? Just curious…
Right. People of color have contributed to this country as well.
I took African American studies in high school, and I've taken history classes of every type and variety. I never felt ashamed when I learned about people who were slighted. I felt resolute about not allowing it to happen again! If your child is feeling shame when they are learning, take them to a psychologist because they have problems!
That part!!!
Absolutely
I learned about Bayard Rustin when I was 12 years old in a book. People can learn so much just by reading. As an African-American, I was always interested in my own culture.
Exactly I learned about Bayard Rustin when I was 12 as well. As an African American I will also continue to be heavily invested in my own culture. I’m building my own personal library of African American History as we speak.
Because he was from the PHL area( West Chester) we've always known about him in Philly.
It's American history period. Shouldnt be separated. Black Americans have been here and established this country more than any white American not off the Mayflower... and that's most of them.
The more I hear Martin Luther King Jr speeches the more I realize how right he was. 💜💕💜💕
This was a great segment and excellent conversation conducted with mature and well thought out points.I've personally learned so much about my ancestors and ancient african culture on my own, just by reading books and watching documentaries made by our people, youtube is really good for this too, LOTS of old school videos and new school videos highlighting the contributions of african americans and also ancient africa.. To be honest they don't want us to know how great our people are and the power each of us has, we have to go out and do it for ourselves.

When will you have Heather Cox Richardson on? She is an expert in the facts of American History.
I think some people don’t know how to handle children feeling sad or bad for what people did in the past. They don’t understand that feeling bad is not the same as feeling guilty. Feeling bad/sad/angry/confused is normal when learning about our history. It is filled with stories after story of tragedy and injustice. I can feel tons of sadness and outrage for how many different groups of people were treated in the past. That doesn’t make me guilty for their behavior. As a parent, my job is to have a deep discussion with my child about the horrors of the past so that we can be better people, so that my child feels their compassion and takes steps to make things better.

Have to say I'm a little disappointed in Alyssa today. Sure, the *black* republicans denounced Desantis' move (all three of them), but where is the Republican party as a whole on this? Slavery is happening in America today.
We can encourage empathy for racial injustice AND not make a 7 year old white kid a target for responsibility.
No Sara, a kid shouldn’t “feel bad” or responsible for slavery happening.
So much respect for Anna and everyone on that panel . Thank you guys for your constant work in speaking against ignorance .
Modern white children should not feel bad about slavery in the sense that they had something to do with it. They didn't. They can have empathy for what was done, but that's not the same as feeling responsible for it.
So I guess Sunny doesn’t agree with MLK’s quote, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will NOT be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Black, White, Asian, and Latino are threads in the fabric of America. As Americans, we must be proud of who we are and what we have become. It is through the education of the new generation about our history that keeps every one of us significant.

Sarah has come a long way and I’m proud of her. Ana needs work. Sunny and Whoopi are always on point. Idk Alyssa enough to have an opinion.
Then let’s implement every culture and race in history. This country has every culture and race that formed this country it’s not just white and black. You say we are all equal yet you talk bad about white people. If Martin Luther King was alive today he would be so disappointed on how they are going about this and treating race. The story of America is about every culture and race that’s why it’s America.
How about we teach our kids math and English, science and history and with the foundation of having values and morals like respect, empathy, hard work, kindness etc this will transcend from childhood to adulthood to every race and culture.
Sara was mentioning the movie "Hidden Figures" to watch on day like today, I would suggest watching "Selma", that's definitely a film MLK and the Civil Rights Movement.
Hidden Figures is historical fiction, not a documentary.

@@kirkb2665 This was a real story that actually happened! We never knew the women who helped launch these famous men into space until this movie came out back in 2016. I would consider "Hidden Figures" a biopic.

Interesting how people celebrate MLK and don’t do his memory any justice, ignoring the very causes he fought for. MLK had a profound connection with the Jewish community, and he was also against the violent occupation of the Palestinians. Yet, still there is no mention of the continued war in Gaza and violence in the West Bank. MLK would have been deeply disappointed and saddened by how the West, especially the U.S. had responded to this war. 😢
Wow this isn’t true at all. Just leave out the fact that he was a Republican. He was a homophobic preacher who cheated on his wife and he stole all his speeches. That part^^^ 🛎️
The Us Response should be to do nothing and let the terrorists Hamas continue their attacks on the Jews??
in all honesty, I personally believe that the history books should be highly debated and rewritten to include each and every culture and their contributions to this country. You can go to a library and read about so many magnificent people of all race and cultures in this country and many wonderful contributions each culture has made, but in the school systems it is very limited. I know it's MLK day, but I get annoyed sometimes that Americans of black/African descent argue they are the only ones forgotten about. Since the black community is very vocal they should be more inclusive about multi cultural contributions and encourage other cultures to speak up. I am only now over the last few years seeing Native Americans speaking up and many aspect of their culture and heritige. We have come a long way, but have such a long road ahead for the American ideal of Life, Liberty, Justice and Freedom for all in this country.
I took all of the AP courses given in public high school and many groups were talked about. From ancient civilizations to modern. All sorts of people were talked about. "Black excellence" though is just nonsense. No one should be placed on a pedestal and that's what Sunny is clearly doing.
Heck, I'm Mexican and the Mexican-American War was literally 2 paragraphs long skipping over the truth of what actually happened. I didn't whine or complain. It's the time we had to cram everything in and I understand not everything can be fully explained nor should we put moral arguments into events. It's what happened and this was the result should be it.
@@linger4605no ones whining or complaing its the fact that the government is targeting black history and white washing it.
You get annoyed that black people argue/ speak up for themselves?
Really?! This/ you are the problem! For so long no one had the backs of blacks and now that we are speaking up for ourselves, you are annoyed? With ALL that we have been through?
We did not ELECT (unlike immigrants) to come to this country! And once here, we were treated less than animals.
As a black American, I love everyone. Someone speaking up for themselves would NEVER annoy me, I would be happy for them (UNLESS I too had an underlying ought against them).
Self- evaluation is a valuable tool.
Fair, and I agree that we all need to learn more about other cultures in this country -Asian, Latino, African, Australian, all of it. But your post is a reminder of why black American history is so sorely needed. It would be like bemoaning that Germany might have a special focus on Jewish history when there are also Turkish, Polish, Romanian and other ethnic groups in their borders. There wouldn’t BE an America without African American slavery; every major institution in this country is inextricably and deeply linked to the legacy of black slavery, from government to education to institutions of worship. This country was literally built on slavery. And the African American struggle opened the door for every other immigrant of color in this country to be accepted in ways that they weren’t before. Outside of Native American history, Black history is the only other group whose history is literally central to the foundation of this country, and to minimize this fact is literally a part of the problem.

History doesn't have to make white people feep bad. History can be taught to show that not only did black people resist, but white allies joined them as well. Showing them that they can be an ally and don't have to be an enemy.

The celebration of Martin Luther King in America is often attributed to his advocacy for nonviolent revolution, which stands in contrast to the more confrontational approach advocated by Malcolm X. There is no such a thing as non violent revolution. Malcolm X played significant role in the civil rights movement, King's emphasis on nonviolence has been more widely embraced as a symbol of peaceful protest and social change and he was friends and paid by the liberal whites. However, perspectives on resistance and self-respect promoted by Malcolm X is never taught to black Americans
