The comb-like accessory that you described (at 2:30) as a stopper is actually a device for helping the robot to go over the join between different diameter curtain rods - that will prevent the outer rod from being pushed. On my version 1, I found that the adhesive needed to be augmented with some packing tape, but it works just fine.
Thanks for including the Google Home app integration! So many reviewers ignore that aspect, but it's an important part of a smart home. Just ordered one of these things using your code to try it out :)
Awesome! I typically try to show off all the integrations with different assistants, but Google Home is what I mainly use so I just went with that. Glad this helped.
Is the hub required to set a schedule using their app? I’m okay without google/alexa integration as long as the curtains can open and close at the same time each day. Thank you!
@@TechWithBrett I'm glad you said that because that is exactly what I was going to ask you in response to PatStellato's question. I have two curtains on my living room window but it just occurred to me (doh🤣) that ONE of them could cover the WHOLE window on its own, so I guess I might as well just buy one SwitchBot for now and have the one open and close vertically. If it works well I might look at putting the second curtain back and getting a second SwitchBot but this would give me the chance to try it out without spending too much initially. Thanks.
Each time you fully closed the curtains, there was a gap in the bottom middle where the curtains did not properly drape over each other. Was this consistent in your testing? That would require the user to get up and adjust the curtains each time to fully close them/layer them over each other to truly black out all the light.
Great video ! Q: as seen in various part of the video the lower part of the curtains does not fully close as the motors are at the top . Are your curtains dragging on the floor ? I am afraid as mine are quite heavy and dragging on the floor won’t be able to close them fully defying the whole purpose if you still need to manually adjust them
Just finding this is 2024! Have you tried these on curved rods? Either with joints or continuous smooth? Seems like the v3 is well improved but also much more expensive than the earlier models?
Just got my Curtain 3. Sadly the device doesn't grip on the rod, just spins its wheels. Hoping to see something different when you installed it. Waiting for support to get back to me.
i just connected my curtain together in the middle and pushed them all the way to one side instead of spending all that money on another unit i upgraded my curtain rod to heavy duty and got rid of the middle mount
So right now I am not seeing the lights sensor let me trigger the automations like the light sensor does on the actual hub. I'll let you know if that changes. Hopefully it will so you can automatically shut them when the window is too bright.
I have the hub and I use the switchbot app it will work for a day or too then go unresponsive. I cant open my curtains using the app at all when that happens. I have an alexa device but i mostly use the app *switchbot* to open and close my curtains. When it is unresposive I take the switchbot off the rod and i connect it to the charger then put it back on the rail then it works its odd @@TechWithBrett
Great question, enable for the SwitchBot devices to work over Matter they need the SwitchBot Hub 2. Then if you can add Matter devices into Home Assistant that should work.
@AngloYorkshire SwitchBot had to go this route in a way because they use BLE for their ecosystem, which Matter doesn't support. They could move their product range across to Thread or WIFI, but there are pros and cons there too and of course cost for them to change direction.
any idea how these compare to the aqara curtain controller? Ive got blackout curtains that the original switchbot couldnt handle. the aqara does okay but doesnt like the joint in the curtain rod, itll get stuck every time if ot opens past it. Im hoping this has enough muscle for blackout curtains and can handle the joint between the pieces a little better.
In one of their demo videos they showed it against the Aqara version and the Aqara did stop and stutter along the rail but it eventually worked and pushed the weights across the rail. The Curtain 3 pushed the same weight and didn't have any hiccups. I think the added force is definitely going to help with these.
awesome, thanks @@TechWithBrett! i might have to get one in the next week or so. looks like the BLE already works with HA, so this should be a great option.
This brand lags behind others in that their products still require a hub to be controlled over the internet. These devices are large enough to have wifi built in.
or a) useful if you can’t reach a curtain or b) useful you have a disability where certain movements are challenging or c) how I use it - to open up my curtains before I wake up every morning so I go to sleep in darkness without the glow of big-city lights and still wake up with the sun. It’s awesomeness.
Imagine you have these in multiple windows in your house. If you're someone who opens and closes curtains throughout the day and night you can do simple math to figure out how much time this saves you a year. Not to mention saving money from keeping the house cool on hot days, closing curtains if it's too hot and you're not home. Automations are the future
The first thing that comes out when I get to my car and then when I’m driving I have a feeling it’s gonna happen because I’m not driving it but I’m driving and I’m driving and I’m driving and it’s like a lot more traffic so I’m just not gonna 🎉or something and I’m just not going anywhere so I’m just going on with it I don’t want it anymore I’m just gonna keep driving it I just want it and I’m gonna keep going on it I just want the car so I’m gonna be able get a new one so I’m not going nowhere but 🛜🚮🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚹🚮🚮🚹🚮🚹🚹🚺🚮🎦🎦🎦🎦🎦🎦🎦🚮🚮🎦🚮🚮🎦🚮🎦🎦🚮🔤🔤🔤🔤🔤🔤🆙🆙

You convinced me to finally take the plunge. Ordered four of the newest version. Also, thanks for the discount code :-)
Sometimes waiting definitely gets you a better product. Enjoy!

Tks for the review. Does the solar panel still work with windows that are covered with solar film?
I feel like it dont shut the certain all thr way id you look in middle after you close it.
Thank preventing me from needing to read the instruction manual with the microscopic print! your unboxing and installation or on perfect point!

So you need 2 of these for the 2 sides of the curtain bracket, right?
That is correct. If you had one really long curtain 1 would work.
@@TechWithBrett I'm glad you said that because that is exactly what I was going to ask you in response to PatStellato's question. how do you know how much your curtain weighs?
Can you customise when the curtains stop moving? What about the silent mode?
Any idea how wide of a U-Rail opening they can handle? Website not very detailed.

These aren't touching the ground but are up against the dresser. You may need to do a bit of repositioning when closing.

Can connect with zigbee hub instead of switchbot hub 2? Since I have zigbee hub right now.
Sadly these only directly through Bluetooth to the Switchbot Hub.
i have 4 panela on my loft window and ordered the two pack, is that enough?
The 2 pack will cover the 2 of the panels. It might be best to have 4 so you can control each panel.
Do these work with curved rods?
good day. when is your house ready. and when do we get a smart home tour
Just got my Curtain 3. Sadly the device doesn't grip on the rod, just spins its wheels. Hoping to see something different when you installed it. Waiting for support to get back to me.
So you have to buy two for one window? So, basically 400 dollars for two windows?
i just connected my curtain together in the middle and pushed them all the way to one side instead of spending all that money on another unit i upgraded my curtain rod to heavy duty and got rid of the middle mount
I love how much quieter these seem to be. Can you use the light sensor data in other apps for automations?
So right now I am not seeing the lights sensor let me trigger the automations like the light sensor does on the actual hub. I'll let you know if that changes. Hopefully it will so you can automatically shut them when the window is too bright.
Is it possible for wave curtain? ❤
Very useful thank you
Does this work with the curtain rods that they have for the black out curtains they have now? I really hope so
Will this work with smartthings and what hub version of smartthings?
Can these switch bot work on outdoor curtains?
There is no weather resistance added to these so it is unsure if that would work. If the curtain stays dry and doesn't get too dirty it might work.
I just bought the 2nd gen on prime day. And my curtains are mounted high above the window. 🙃 ugh
Can I connect it to alexa echo directly?
After pairing it to a Hub, it can connect to Alexa.
Mines keep going unresponsive it will work for a few days then will go unresponsive I have no idea why
Interesting. Are you using it with or without hub? Does opening the app get it to work again or what do you have to do?
I have the hub and I use the switchbot app it will work for a day or too then go unresponsive. I cant open my curtains using the app at all when that happens. What about Home Assistant? Would you need the hub forr HA especially as it is Matter?
Great question, enable for the SwitchBot devices to work over Matter they need the SwitchBot Hub 2. Then if you can add Matter devices into Home Assistant that should work.
But Matter products should work with everything without extra hubs!

They could move their product range across to Thread or WIFI, but there are pros and cons there too and of course cost for them to change direction.
No but you need a adapter for Home assistant but not the hub

I didn't know you had to buy 2 of these to open from centre. Kinda expensive then.
Oh wow.
No dark version of bot 3, what a shame.
This brand lags behind others in that their products still require a hub to be controlled over the internet. These devices are large enough to have wifi built in.
Such a let down they didn't implement Thread with their new devices 😢
