  • Before you can do a Tool Box Tour you have to take Delivery of your Brand NEW toolbox. Today we will take delivery of a brand new Harbor Freight ICON toolbox which is a massive upgrade from the previous 26" Craftsman. While the Craftsman had lots of drawers it didn't have a lot of room. This video will be part two of a multi-part series an this is prior to the toolbox tour which I promise we will do!
    Part One - The Purchase - What to Expect when you are Expecting an ICON toolbox purchased
    • Harbor Freight ICON To...
    I am really excited for you to come along and see what it feels like to take delivery of a brand new toolbox! It's almost like buying a new car but I expect this to last a lifetime and it also comes with a lifetime warranty from Harbor Freight tools.
    We will plan on doing upgrades to this like swapping out two smaller drawers for one larger one and getting new locks so they are all keyed the same. Possibly even putting on a butcher block top on the 22" end cabinets so we can mount a vise to it.
    This is not a snap on toolbox or a Snap on EQIP Unboxing This compares more to a Compare to Snap-On KRL or Snapon Master Series box. Now let's get onto taking delivery, do an unboxing, and attach the side cabinet.
    ICON 36 In. X 25 In. Professional Roller Cabinet - Green unboxing video
    www.harborfreight.com/36-in-x...
    Built with the strongest steel and precision reinforced welds, Icon™ storage is tough enough for the daily grind of a busy shop…and you don’t have to break the bank to get the tool cabinet you deserve. Every Icon™ cabinet features a double-wall steel frame for ultimate strength. Industry-leading 16-gauge top and outside panels prevent dents and withstand the demands of daily use, and 18-gauge inside panels evenly support drawer and slide weight. Structural corner brackets prevent cabinet twist and racking. Under every Icon™ roller cabinet, three 14-gauge U channels distribute weight evenly to the industry-leading 2,000-pound-rated suspension casters with easy locks, so these boxes glide into place easily and stay in place securely. With a staggering 8,000-pound capacity, Icon™ roller cabinets are more than double the overall weight capacity of comparably sized Snap-On cabinets. These boxes are beautiful. Their premium ultra-tough powder-coat finish will withstand harsh chemicals and provide a showroom finish that looks like new, even after years of punishing use. Every drawer features the highest-quality ball bearing full extension drawer slides that support up to 265 pounds per set-or 530 pounds for drawers with double slides-even more than Snap-On’s Masters Series. An adjustable-force drawer latch system lets you dial-in just the right amount of force to keep drawers from opening when they should be closed. And heavy-duty non-slip drawer liners will keep your tools in place...right where you put them. Icon™ storage features an integrated power system. The convenient exterior power is equipped with two fast-charging USBs and two 110V outlets. An advanced locking system turns your tool cabinet into a vault to keep your valuable tools safe and secure. Thanks for the video! I have been lurking ICON videos like this for some time and really enjoyed this one. A large box ICON setup is definitely on my list - just putting the pennies away :) What I find very interesting is the number of comments that say either a) Way too expensive for a "Harbor Freight" box, or b) Snap-On is much better quality. As to the first, I see this as the same as Hyundai. When Hyundai started to build better cars, people couldn't imagine paying $20, 30, 40k or more for a Hyundai. History has clearly shown that they are a true competitor now and anyone who has ever been in them and owned them has to acknowledge that the value and quality you get is pretty hard to beat, and they have made other manufacturers change their model (better quality, lower cost, and longer warranties.
    As for the Snap-on comments, I truly hope folks have that are making these comments have actually touched the HF ICON boxes. As someone who has been around Snap-On boxes for many years, the ICON boxes, in my opinion, are absolutely in the same league - and for much, much less. Regardless of whether you agree with me or not, one thing that is for certain, is that competition is good for us all. Even if you are a "Snap-On" forever kind of person, we can almost guarantee, this will drive prices down ultimately.
    Just my .02. Thanks again for the video!

      @@ClientGraphics I have 2 of the series one 44" roller and upper boxes and 2 of the 22" side cabinets and a locker all bolted together in my shop at home. I think they are best value for the money and since I am retired now I don't need anything more industrial then this. I went my entire career with a 26" Waterloo roller and upper with a Matco side box I acquired along the way. After 35 years of aviation I bailed out three years ago and bought the US General boxes as a retirement gift to myself. Then Icon was introduced earlier this year. @@ClientGraphics I never thought of upgrading when I was working as I was always a cheap Charlie. I truly thought the truck boxes were way overpriced for what you get a place to store tools. After I retired and had all the tools home I absolutely had overwhelmed the Waterloo box as I also had 40 years of tools scattered all over the shop. I took measurements of the area I wanted my toolbox and thought yeah that combination will work here and that is where the 2 forty four inch roller upper 2 side boxes and locker will fit. Apparently I've been here before but, I was just rewatching this and, I couldn't help but wonder, why not buy the 56" cabinet for $2,800 instead of this cart/side cabinet for $3,200. At $3,200 you were only $600 away from buying the 72" Icon Box. What was the thought process when you decided to go this route? Why did you feel like this was the best value for you, given the money you spent and, what you could have bought instead?

      For mobility since the 36” base will be the easiest to roll and move. I really didn’t need the built in power drawer or a top hutch. Yes, buying bigger 56 or 72 is better dollar per inch as far as value but any of the ICON toolboxes are priced cheaper than a Snapon, Matco and Mac equivalent. I’m doing a drawer swap here soon going from 8 total to 7 total as soon as they ship in from outside the USA ✌️

    I got one of those husky 46" wood tops used on marketplace for $50, and it sucks. I can't even put all my sockets in the top drawer without it buckling. I been looking at these icon, but I think Im going to get a matco or snap on instead. The price of these icons are just to close to snap on to be worth it to me.

    • @dondahl2056
      @dondahl2056 3 года назад

      I have a Snap On KRL 1003 I bought 20 years ago, was $13,000 plus tax, now I got a decent trade in on my old Snap On box, but still. The KRL 1003 is currently over $17,000, while the 72” ICON is $2995 and you can get 0% finanacing Snap On interest is 23%.
      Toolboxes don’t make you money like tools, I would buy the ICON in a heart beat over Snap On.

    Green looks nice but, I find that I get tired of looking at green for several hours a day. I think i would have gone with blue or black but, it's your box. you're the first person I've seen that actually bought an Icon box. I like to know how many units harbor freight has sold. Fresh out of cardboard, it's a fine looking box but, it's not how it looks new but, how it holds up many years from now and if harbor freight will continue to support these behemoths 10 or more years down the road. Congrats on your new box!!!

    • @ClientGraphics
      @ClientGraphics  4 года назад

      Personally black is too hard to keep clean, but looks fantastic. Blue would have been my second choice. I would also would love to know how many have sold because I know of 3 but they don’t do YT. I don’t have any doubt it will stand 2 or 3 times what a US General would, but if I have issues YT will know.

  • @Jujoji

    I don't like that the stainless steel top stands proud of the rest of the box; I like how the rubber mats create a recessed area so things don't roll off. So, if they'd made the SS top half that height it would have worked better for me.
    I'd also like to see a replaceable wooden top as an alternative to the SS.

    • @ClientGraphics
      @ClientGraphics  3 года назад

      I really didn’t need the power drawer and the smaller wheel base on the 36” definitely makes it easier to move. I still have the ability to add another 22” end cabinet or add another 36” and put a triangle 36”x17 top box on it like a tool vault. If I ever have to move then I know my future self will be thankful that I have smaller pieces that can be detached for transporting. I guess I could still add a 56 inch toolbox to the mix at anytime.

    I thought delivery was supposed to include setup and inspection. You could have very easily lightened up that side cabinet by A LOT, simply by removing the drawers, and then reinstalling them after mounting the cabinet.

  • @jimdiet8534
    @jimdiet8534 3 года назад

    Can you mount a side cabinet on that box?

    • @ClientGraphics
      @ClientGraphics  3 года назад

      Technically I believe you could, but there would be some top screw mounts exposed since the top of the cabinet is supposed to mount to the hutch. I can’t recall if there are bottom bolt mounts but the box itself since it’s on the 36” should really have something on both sides to even the weigh otherwise it’s too heavy on a single side.

    That's a great set up. I'm giddy for you, My Friend! I've out grown my older 26" Craftsman cabinet and chest combo as well and I only have a total of 10 drawers. That's way less than what you had. Space is at a premium for me on setting up a new tool cabinet. I thought 44" would be at the limit, but I'm better off with as wide as 36". Look at my channel, " A Longtime Petrolhead". I give a brief talk about it a 8'x6' shed.

      Free delivery is stated and has an additional lid-gate charge that may apply (not sure what causes that to kick in but I didn’t have a lift-gate charge). I definitely don’t see anything about setup but there can be a lot of packaging you have to get ride of on you own.

    • @ClientGraphics

      I thought it would be easier to rotate and more with the shorter wheel base. Anyone can get a big tool box if they have the money, but I picked out why I wanted.
